"Software related issue" = We can't figure out any software for it that would make enough people want to buy our headset to make it profitable.a "software related issue" causes a delay from Q2'23 to Q3'23???
Going from lat '22 to Jan '23 announcement to what?
reminds me of the Apple car ...
So not a consumer device whatsoever.$3599 I say.
Goggles, I agree, no way I'd buy those, but if they could make a pair of glasses shaped device, with the capability for AR, and make it so it can adjust your vision for your eyes all the time and for where you are looking (like changing into reading glasses automatically), then I'd gladly pay a lot of money for it.I know with the rumors and tracking this thing is likely going to happen, but for the life of me, I don’t understand it. Apples’ ‘Game’ presence is mostly mobile, small (profitable) games. I don’t see this being better than ps vr2. So if not games… what?
now a AR headset, glasses with screens, with data overlays, that’s a vision I can see. maps, nav, local store info.. the episode of black mirror but removable. I’d drop 3k on those. But goggles? I just don’t see myself walking around in the world with these, and I don’t see them as great for work…I will need one hell of a demo to get on board, and I’m definitely an early adopter.
Can’t really be disappointed by a delay for something that’s never been officially announced.
Well almost never, we’re still waiting on an Apple Silicon Mac Pro for example… 🤷Apple has never formally announced anything, ever, prior to its launch.
Does everything Apple sells have to apply to consumers? Is it wrong to pitch products more to businesses then consumers. I know a lot initially thought this would be akin to real player one gaming or maybe people participating in the Free Guy reality game. But Apple does have a lot going on with medical products relationships. Doesn't mean that eventually you wouldn't have the other, but got to start somewhere that adds revenue not risk.If the headset is aimed to be groundbreaking product and Apple's bet on future of technology, they cannot price it out of the reach for the vast majority of their target public. Anything above 1400$ would be a niche product in terms of sales volume, and Apple doesn't make money out of niche products.
I could definitely see this. Some of the other things? If they can integrate this xr device to the new NFL Sunday Ticket broadcast, this will be a game changer. Looking forward to what they do with this. I can wait for bugless software.
How quickly we forget. How times have changed since the first iPhone days.
Back then — the press didn’t have a clue about what was going to change the world - until SJ unveiled it.
Nowadays we hear about delays of a product nobody has ever seen - one year in advance
Aside from the iPad, which was only a couple of months between announcement and release, you’re spot on here. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see this unveiled at a special January event, something that hasn’t happened since the iPad was introduced.Every time a brand new product category is presented, there is around 6 months until release to the market (same was with the ipad, apple watch, iphone etc)
So no delay, just KUO twitter at its finest
The NFL Sunday Ticket connection is really what I hope to see. I'd gladly pay if I can be at games in virtual reality. If they can integrate this xr device to the new NFL Sunday Ticket broadcast, this will be a game changer. Looking forward to what they do with this. I can wait for bugless software.
$2000 or less for a consumer-focused device. Remember that the iPad was estimated to be about $1000 when it came out. $500 completely shocked people. Apple will eat some of the margins with a device like this.Anyone want to guess the price?
$2999
I have NFL ticket, and would rather watch it on the OLED TV. Less neck strain, can eat, and do other things at the same time. They would have to have a LOT more cameras for you to be "at the game", and that costs money and bandwidth. NFL ticket is already expensive, and it would go up at the very least double. The NFL Sunday Ticket connection is really what I hope to see. I'd gladly pay if I can be at games in virtual reality.
I don’t see folks being interested in a VR headset from Apple. AR glasses on the other hand would sell like hotcakes.
The way I look at it is, the technology isn't advanced enough for a wear-anywhere AR device that could pass as a normal, if bulky, pair of glasses/sunglasses. So any AR device would be something you wear at home or at the office.I agree, I really doubt Apple would release a VR headset. I can see AR glasses being the next big thing, but I wonder if the tech will be ready for that anytime soon.
To get real work done, you'll probably want a real keyboard. You may be able to forgo the mouse with good enough eye and hand tracking. This could be the wearable computer of 2023. Virtual screen, keyboard, and mouse all available wearing the goggles.
There is a need for a headset for pro users now. It needs to be more time for content to be built for a consumer headset. I expect this will be a pro / enthusiast focused headset with a consumer focused one coming a year or two later. This will likely be the Mac Pro of the line up.$2000 or less for a consumer-focused device. Remember that the iPad was estimated to be about $1000 when it came out. $500 completely shocked people. It’s possibly they will have something geared towards “professionals” that’s in the $3000+ range but Apple doesn’t usually start on the high end with products (meaning ignoring consumers/non-professionals).
An AR/VR device will require new hardware/OS/software/services. I don't think Apple would justify doing all those things for a lower volume device that they don't intend for consumers. It's possible they'll target professionals first, but only if they have a plan to bring it to a much wider audience within a couple years.Does everything Apple sells have to apply to consumers?
