a "software related issue" causes a delay from Q2'23 to Q3'23???
Going from lat '22 to Jan '23 announcement to what?
reminds me of the Apple car ...
"Software related issue" = We can't figure out any software for it that would make enough people want to buy our headset to make it profitable.

Yawn. The Amazing Kreskin is at it once again. Ming is so unreliable he's approaching Prosser-levels.

I have $20 says he'll issue "revised" guesses, er guidence, in a couple months to explain why he's wrong yet again.

I know with the rumors and tracking this thing is likely going to happen, but for the life of me, I don’t understand it. Apples’ ‘Game’ presence is mostly mobile, small (profitable) games. I don’t see this being better than ps vr2. So if not games… what?

now a AR headset, glasses with screens, with data overlays, that’s a vision I can see. maps, nav, local store info.. the episode of black mirror but removable. I’d drop 3k on those. But goggles? I just don’t see myself walking around in the world with these, and I don’t see them as great for work…I will need one hell of a demo to get on board, and I’m definitely an early adopter.
Goggles, I agree, no way I'd buy those, but if they could make a pair of glasses shaped device, with the capability for AR, and make it so it can adjust your vision for your eyes all the time and for where you are looking (like changing into reading glasses automatically), then I'd gladly pay a lot of money for it.

To the extent these release dates haven't all been nonsense on the part of rumormongers having to pretend to know Apple's unannounced timelines of its unannounced products...

... keep in mind that Apple probably has a very good understanding of the performance per watt that they need for the functionality they want. M1 didn't achieve it, and apparently the M2 didn't either. It's possible we're hearing something about the performance of future nodes from TSMC.

Can’t really be disappointed by a delay for something that’s never been officially announced.

It's a bit comical that analysts and bloggers make "product announcements" on the company's behalf. When they are wrong they deflect blame by calling it a delay relative to their own fake "announcement." Translation: I was right but the company messed up so my reputation remains intact. In recent years the favorite excuse has been supply chain issues. An actual delay is when Apple announces and commits to a date but doesn't deliver. This does happen.

Can we just stop with these stories already. Here’s the problem with society and the media making fake stories up and posting as legit is actually causing people to be left disappointed or p offed with the company when it don’t get announced. VR headsets are dying they are lacking and not taken off to the general public , apple focus on the general public they focus more on the general public rather than high end clients with one or two products being the expection. This “ rumour “ about VR/AR headsets with it’s on Os has been doing the rounds since 2015 .. it’s 2022 now and in 2023 this rumour will still happen. Apple are not making a A/R headset cause no one wants it. A/R isn’t even getting talked about now with the iPhone cameras at conferences anymore , nor are companies making apps and games that use the AR system, more and more shopping apps are moving back to traditional apps that’s easier to use. AR was spoke about in 2015/16/17 it died at conferences in 2020 .. give it a rest with these stories

If the headset is aimed to be groundbreaking product and Apple's bet on future of technology, they cannot price it out of the reach for the vast majority of their target public. Anything above 1400$ would be a niche product in terms of sales volume, and Apple doesn't make money out of niche products.
Does everything Apple sells have to apply to consumers? Is it wrong to pitch products more to businesses then consumers. I know a lot initially thought this would be akin to real player one gaming or maybe people participating in the Free Guy reality game. But Apple does have a lot going on with medical products relationships. Doesn't mean that eventually you wouldn't have the other, but got to start somewhere that adds revenue not risk.

If they can integrate this xr device to the new NFL Sunday Ticket broadcast, this will be a game changer. Looking forward to what they do with this. I can wait for bugless software.
I could definitely see this. Some of the other things?
Not so much.

How times have changed since the first iPhone days.
Back then — the press didn’t have a clue about what was going to change the world - until SJ unveiled it.

Nowadays we hear about delays of a product nobody has ever seen - one year in advance
How quickly we forget.
There had been extensive rumors and speculation of an Apple cell phone based on the iPod for quite some time before the Steve Jobs announcement. Much of the design was revolutionary and unexpected, but the basic idea of an Apple phone as a multifunction pocket device was pretty well universally expected well in advance.

Every time a brand new product category is presented, there is around 6 months until release to the market (same was with the ipad, apple watch, iphone etc)
So no delay, just KUO twitter at its finest
Aside from the iPad, which was only a couple of months between announcement and release, you’re spot on here. I wouldn’t be surprised at all to see this unveiled at a special January event, something that hasn’t happened since the iPad was introduced.

Whether this is announced in January, March, or during WWDC is all within the realm of possibility, and it’s all a question of how delayed the product truly is. If this is coming out over the Summer, I believe we’ll see it in January (an event which could even bring small updates, such as M2 Pro Macs). Either way, crazy to believe we might have a glimpse of this within the next few weeks. As long as it happens in the next year, I’ll be happy.

Don’t hold your breath waiting for the the XRos headset. Too many variables at play here such as COVID while China is getting worse even though they have relaxed restrictions in iPhone City
Also keep in mind that the headset will need time till the App developers get in on this

The NFL Sunday Ticket connection is really what I hope to see. I'd gladly pay if I can be at games in virtual reality.

Anyone want to guess the price?

$2999
$2000 or less for a consumer-focused device. Remember that the iPad was estimated to be about $1000 when it came out. $500 completely shocked people. Apple will eat some of the margins with a device like this.

It’s possibly they will have something geared towards “professionals” that’s in the $3000+ range but Apple doesn’t usually start on the high end with products (meaning ignoring consumers/non-professionals).

I have NFL ticket, and would rather watch it on the OLED TV. Less neck strain, can eat, and do other things at the same time. They would have to have a LOT more cameras for you to be "at the game", and that costs money and bandwidth. NFL ticket is already expensive, and it would go up at the very least double.

I don’t see folks being interested in a VR headset from Apple. AR glasses on the other hand would sell like hotcakes.
I agree, I really doubt Apple would release a VR headset. I can see AR glasses being the next big thing, but I wonder if the tech will be ready for that anytime soon.
The way I look at it is, the technology isn't advanced enough for a wear-anywhere AR device that could pass as a normal, if bulky, pair of glasses/sunglasses. So any AR device would be something you wear at home or at the office.
If you have a device that you aren't going to be wearing while out and about in the public, you may as well have a VR headset, because devices like Hololens or Magic Leap are aren't going to match the visuals from a VR headset.

I expect Apple to have best-in-class passthrough capabilities, though, using a combination of video and 3D scanning to bring the real world into the virtual world. I've done photogrammetry of the room I use VR in and was able to line up the real and virtual worlds very effectively. It took quite a lot of time to generate the models, and the virtual model didn't update to match changes in the real world, so it was more of a proof of concept, but if Apple can get close enough in real time, it will come a long way towards making VR use possible without shutting out the real world.
This could be the wearable computer of 2023. Virtual screen, keyboard, and mouse all available wearing the goggles.
To get real work done, you'll probably want a real keyboard. You may be able to forgo the mouse with good enough eye and hand tracking.

There is a need for a headset for pro users now. It needs to be more time for content to be built for a consumer headset. I expect this will be a pro / enthusiast focused headset with a consumer focused one coming a year or two later. This will likely be the Mac Pro of the line up.

An AR/VR device will require new hardware/OS/software/services. I don't think Apple would justify doing all those things for a lower volume device that they don't intend for consumers. It's possible they'll target professionals first, but only if they have a plan to bring it to a much wider audience within a couple years.
