My better half had a used iPhone 6s that finally died so she needed an upgrade. After days of discussion trying to get her to get a XR she refused. She doesn’t like the notch and she wanted a home button so she went with the iPhone 8 and couldn’t be happier. Some people just want a button.

Not a button ;):

“On earlier models, the button was truly a button: something that moved when you clicked it. On the iPhone 7 and then the 8 series, the Home button is actually a solid, 3D Touch-enabled panel. When you press it, nothing moves.“

SE = Small Edition (or Special Edition, whichever you prefer). Apple never made clear an official meaning for it.

Greg joswiak couldn't flat out explain what the SE stands for during its product introduction. Absolutely terrible!

Most people here don’t get it. The iPhone 6 design is not the SE design, SE lovers want a phone the size of the SE.

The iPhone 6 design has been out since....the iPhone 6 (go figure). If they wanted to update to one, they would have by now. This doesn’t “appease” them in any way.

This is an update to the iPhone 8. Nothing more, nothing less. Stop painting the picture that this has anything to do with the current SE.

It makes no sense to produce the New SE using an old design to begin with.

If and when it comes out, we will see if this merely an updated 8 but it is sounding more like an updated 8. I’ll wait and see what the price and hardware before getting excited, or not.

I have normal sized hands, and prefer the smaller sized phones....

Interesting...

What is your obsession with hand size????

This is just a few of many posts (there are many pages of results) mentioning hand size and/or accusing people of having baby-sized hands:

Is this kind of like when you see people with a lifted truck with huge sack trailing behind? Most likely someone compensating for something tiny on them.....

It has always seemed a bit weird to me that Apple seems to assume buyers of small phones are looking for something other than a premium experience. Why not make something in a format similar to the existing SE, but with an edge-to-edge screen?

because Apple has zillions more data about what customers want than you or me and clearly most of the people that buy a small phone is for budget reason. All the people I know personally that have bought and SE it’s because it was the cheaper iPhone not because they liked the form factor.

So, this is a reboot of the SE, using an 8 shell, which is good a upgrade option for current 6 users? Huh?

Have said it BEFORE will say it AGAIN, it won't be called the "SE 2," it will be called the LS, for "Legacy Sport" !

If it gets the same image sensor as the Back Wide in the 2019 iPhones it "could" sell EXTREMELY well !

Apple should really put 3.7-3.8 GB into it, just like the 2019 iPhones ! ... an extra GB of DRAM doesn't cost AAPL anything !

Whether this thing interests me will come down to camera and price. If it’s the camera from the 11 (even the Xr camera would be a lot better than my 7) even with a single lens, and it’s $500 or less, this is probably my next phone. If they go real cheap and don’t change the camera from what’s in the 8, I’ll probably pass yet again.

If it’s got the 11 camera (standard wide angle lens) and an A13 for less than $500 then it’s a good upgrade for a lot more than that.

Then please tell me if they have those super-accurate predictions and surveys, why did the SE run out of stock after launch, and performed much better than expected? I was an android user and a mild apple-hater until I've became fed up with the big phones, and bought an SE 1.5 years ago. Now I have an ipad, beats headphones, a desktop mac, switched to icloud, apple music and I have just asked for a macbook pro at my new job. These won't show up in the iphone se income stats, but the iphone se made them possible. So your fancy surveys can be useless, if they target the wrong demographics to begin with. The phone's impact was bigger than just simply selling the units. For some of us, it was the gateway drug, based on it's size, not it's price.

Running out of stock in 2016 is largely irrelevant for 2020 product planning. Market demands change. Otherwise Apple should be making 3.5” iPhone 4 next year to recreate lineups.

By old design, do you mean modeled after the 5? the 6? or both?

I personally prefer the older iPhone designs, specifically the iPhone 4s.

While it probably not going to be exactly the same design, the rumors are that Apple is working on a iPhone 4-like design for an upcoming iPhone.

Maybe.

I think some of that member's posts were just an attempt to bully people.

The online version of a macho, school yard bully, that is usually overcompensating for something and just needs someone to hug them.

My current phone is a 6s Plus. I used to pine for the smaller form factor (my fav all time phone was the 4s) but I got used to the size after I got the 6s Plus as a hand-me-down.

This upgrade would be right in my wheel house.

Make the back something other than glass, or glass that can be replaced for $35. Then I would actually buy one.
