They don’t look the same, in fact the XR bezels look thicker on the sides than the 6S/7/8. It’s been a topic of conversation.
FUD..... look at the pics.

My first experience with Apple goes back to the Apple II in 1982/3. I've had a long career in IT working with everything from Windows, UNIX to mainframes and proprietary OSs alongside Macs for more personal projects. I've never used Macs in my work environment because none of my employers ever considered them. I understand the industry from both engineering and sales & marketing perspective. I've written millions of lines of C code and sold millions of $ of computing equipment to Fortune500 companies, working in Silicon Valley for a big data storage outfit before joining the telecom industry. Don't come here lecturing me about not understanding Apple or the industry.

I just don't wear blinders like many of you undying love worshippers of a mega corporation.
He was spot on though.....Just because you write code and played on an apple 2 doesn't mean you understand the overall Apple philosophy Talking about SD slots proves that to be so.

It’s an absurd statement that iPhone XS preorders are lackluster because people are opting for the iPhone XS Max instead. They are two sizes of the same product.

Regardless, it’s better for Apple if the iPhone XS Max cannibalizes sales of the iPhone XS.

We have definitely reached peak stupidity in Apple coverage.

We’ve reached peak stupidity in something alright. Over $1,100 for a phone. We are talking high-end laptop prices now here. Apple has quite astutely come to see that its customers will pay almost anything, and they are taking full advantage of that. They are pricing themselves out of market share and they don’t even care, *because* of their insane profit margins and profit overall on App Store and accessories.

A 5.8” phone isn’t even a one-handed phone for most people.

This is why I’m going to consider the Max size in store first before ordering. Apple already hurt the one handed use with the X might as well get the bigger if I’m already using two hands a lot of the time.

Market share has never been apple’s goal, or they’d make throw away flip phones like Samsung still does.

I hope Apple doesn’t think we want even bigger phones because the XS is going to fail. It really comes down to it being nothing new over the regular x.
[doublepost=1537126004][/doublepost]
Depends how far you hold it from your face.

It wont fail because you assume everybody already have the x which is far from reality

I have the s3 and think the s4 is a total snooze. If you’re someone who actually needs an EKG or fall detection, then yeah. For the rest of us, it’s the same device with a bigger screen (and jacked up prices). Hugely disappointing.
The additional real estate allowing for more complications is the biggest attraction for me, as it appears to be for many since the amount of pre-orders for the S4 is way above expectations.

That’s essentially what the SE was for Apple in places like India and the rest of SE Asia (not including China as part of SE Asia, since it is an economic superpower).

FUD? Not from me. I’m looking at pics directly from Apple’s website. Maybe these bezels look the same to you, but they don’t to me.

i guess Apple should have implemented landscape Face ID (only half joking)

I don't get the fascination with landscape unlock maybe because I never unlock my phone on landscape... never did when I had Touch ID on iPhones.
iPad is another matter. I use iPad on landscape most of the time. iPhone only if I am watching a video.

Anybody actually EVER seen him or her? haha...

Not surprised at all that 10S isn’t selling that well. It’s the weakest of the “S” cycle iPhones. This is the first “S” iPhone with no standout feature. If you have a 10, there’s literally no reason to upgrade to the 10S. Now the 10S Max has the much bigger screen, that many folks desire...which makes me laugh considering you still have folks here who swear up and down that 4in is the sweet spot for phones lol

But... according to MacRumors forum users... everyone thinks the XR is a bad phone and no one will buy it...

Sorry but MacRumors forum users know ****. Every year they come up with **** predictions and every year they turn out to be wrong! I been for years in this forum and still have not figured quite out what this community is made of? Apple fans? Haters? Trolls? Bit of everything? Hard to tell.
And back on the subject, this should not be a surprise at all. Series 4 does pack a lot for a jump from series 3. New iPhones not that much. iPhone Xr does have almost pretty much the other 2 models have and for around $300 cheaper. No brainer. We underestimate how little the general user cares about OLED vs LCD or dual cameras.

Everybody’s waiting for the XR, you know the “people’s phone” that doesnt actually costs you arms or kidney to buy.

There are compromises but for at least $250 difference, I’d take it. It also the only new iPhone that have 128GB which is a perfect sweetspot for what the phone does. Not overwhelmingly big, but still large enough for people love taking lots of photos and videos.

I have 256GB iPad Pro and I’m barely filling it out 100GB even with all my worksheet and documents. Unless I can have serious, PS4 grade games that weighs 40GB each, then I dont need that much storage of iOS. I’d go with 128GB iPad Pro and save a bit of money, but it doesn’t exist.

326 PPI has not been premium for at least four years. At $749, I'd expect better.

You are right. It hasn't. I has been some sort of trend for a higher PPI for new displays on the last few years. To the point where it does not matter how it look, until we got told of the PPI. Well, I figured this applies to only a tech savvy people you find in places like this site. Try explaining the PPI thing to your regular user. They wouldn't give a flying monkey. And why would they.... if the visual difference is minimal or none existent to them? Apple knows this. And that's why they do it. For folks like us who are obsessed with higher PPI, there are models aimed specifically to us. They just cost more.

I have an X and did not see the point in going to XS. I had a 6 Plus, 6S Plus, and 7 Plus and though the X was a size downgrade and the new Max represents approximately the same physical size as my previous Plus phones, I am actually happy with the smaller size. Even though I am on a Next every year upgrade and could get one I don’t intend to. A Series 4 made more sense for me. Ideally I think the XR represents an optimal screen size, but I wouldn’t opt to downgrade from an X to an XR.
[doublepost=1537119620][/doublepost]
Is that was the XR is essentially.
So X was a downgrade in size from your 7 plus.... somehow I find it hard to believe you really owned both phones ;)

I wouldn’t call Apples high pricing strategy a ‘success’, more like if people want ALL the features and a big screen and iOS, they don’t have much choice..

The Watch 4 is not really surprising, knew that one would take off, the XR will too although possibly not till next year, although......

Apple have risked a lot here, the XR has a lot of features but it is physically bigger then any other lower priced iPhone at launch. It remains to be seen how everyone reacts to it and if they buy a 6.1” screen device in their droves, I will check it out once it’s released to see how big it is in my hands.

I knew the XS would be a very hard sell, it’s not different enough to the X and more expensive then the XR.

I disagree. The iPhone X was the start of a new super-premium iPhone tier. The iPhone X (and the iPhone XS that supersedes it) is a higher end device than previous Apple flagships. It costs more to make and is priced accordingly. It is not overpriced for what it offers.

Clearly, there is a strong market for a new super-premium iPhone tier. iPhone X sales have proven that.

The iPhone XR is the new mainstream Apple flagship. It is comparable in materials and build to iPhone 6, 6s, 7, and 8 series phones of years past.

Having a premium and a super-premium tier is good for everyone because sales of the super-premium phones help to subsidize the price of the more mainstream iPhone XR. It allows Apple to offer new bleeding edge tech in the mainstream device at a good price.

Yes, this leaves some customers with a little buyer’s envy, but that’s life.

you are so wrong, haha - thats unbelievable.
either you make this on purpose or you really believe what you write

the new iphoneX or whatever is just a comparable to an iphone 4 - there is no super , no premium , no nothing. its just an extremely overpriced electronic device. if people buy it fine, but please don't continue with this legend building.

So X was a downgrade in size from your 7 plus.... somehow I find it hard to believe you really owned both phones ;)
Everyone praised the X as being a bigger screen. I guess length wise they were correct. But width wise the 5.5 seemed slightly wider screen to me. Not including the bezels. I liked my X phone. But it just seemed too narrow for me. Typing with two hands seemed cramped. I was used to the plus size phone. So cause of this, I cannot wait till I get my Max phone.

the bezels ARE bigger

not because they have to be, but because apple needs upselling arguments for the xs.

exhibit a: deliberately larger bezels

exhibit b: ridiculously low resolution below 1080p on a 6+inch screen

I upgrade every year. Ordered the XS and expecting it on Friday. My daughter will get my X, and I will sell her 7+ (which was mine two years ago).

Been using this strategy for years.

I’ve also owned every watch. Daughter will get my Series 3, and her Series 2 goes to the good friend who bought my original Apple Watch. I’m going to keep the original. Doubt I would get much money on it, and I’ve always regretted not keeping my original iPhone. Or the iPhone 4... I loved that design!

Ahh I now and then think to myself, why did you sell your iPhone 4 on eBay!! Stupid stupid stupid idiot...
One hell of a phone design, like a piece of jewellery that thing is! Regret selling it.

We underestimate how little the general user cares about OLED vs LCD or dual cameras.

If that’s the case, and btw I agree and would add A12 vs A11, bionic chip, then what exactly do they care about?

No one wants a notch, is it just the new overall look? And is there a bunch of people who want it but just not at £1000, is there also a group of 4/5 users who now feel they have to upgrade?

The X had the shortest life of any iPhone, the XS is a very small bump, if you weren’t interested in the X you’ll be unlikely to be interested in the XS, price a big factor.

That leaves the ‘affordable’ (?) Xr.

I still have my trusty 6S and while I'm ready to update to the XS I'm not paying for the 256gb option and 64gb is just too small. The XR is too big and the XS+ yikes!
I guess I'll be keeping hold for now.

The clock is now ticking for AAPL ... they have until just-before Oct 19th, when pre-Ordering for the XR kicks-off, to provide a legitimate & compelling reason as to why those considering an Upgrade should Upgrade "past" the XR ... otherwise, the XS could be sunk !

The XS is a far better iPhone than the XR, but it was clearly priced $100 USD above where it should have been !

$749 to $999 is a BIG jump ! ... too BIG for most ! ... certainly those who are NOT AAPL Fanboys or Fangirls.

If the typical AAPL customer discovers the XR isn't ALL that compelling as many in the know believe, then that too will be sunk !

AAPL needs to start thinking about protecting itself in case that happens ... if it does, then their market cap gets cut down to ??? ... my guess, hundreds of billions less than $1T ... the market is NOT kind when a company falls out of favor !

The XS Max will (obviously) sell well ... some of the 1-2 year old iPhones could have their 2nd day in the sun starting soon.

What are you trying to say?
You wouldn’t be suggesting that all or most Chinese nationals have small hands, are you?

And would it be wrong for him to say his opinion based on his observation?
Probably, in this extremely politically correct world we are living it.
