I think both the price and comparatively small launch inventory suggest Apple is positioning Vision Pro for the early adopters. Like Apple Watch before it, they will experiment and figure out what it is great for.

And that would include loads of developers.

“The first run of Vision Pro headsets might sell out quick, but Kuo says that so far, it is unclear if the demand for the Vision Pro will be sustained "after the novelty wears off.”

Sounds like Apple is confident

I don’t see myself wearing a headset just to use my Mac. Looks very cumbersome same as PSVR2 I gave up only after a few days and felt nauseated for days. No thanks!

I wouldn't either. But I can see many situations where I would be using it without my Macs. That's something I'm really looking forward to someday.

AVP is so much more than an alternative Mac display.

I initially had no interest, but I’m curious how movie watching experiences are with this thing. If it can match the 4K/Atmos experience of a home theatre system, then people in apartments would have a strong use for it so as to not disturb neighbours.

Don’t remember the last time we actually knew so little about a product that is about to launch like what apps will actually be available (and I am not talking about „lazy“ iOS ports that just float around in a flat window).

I feel like all I see is „renders“ and „could be“ use cases.

I actually JUST ordered a Meta Quest 3 for pick up tomorrow. First time I will be seeing anything VR / AR and Vision Pro most likely won’t be released here this year AND it’s not like I could afford it anyway 😅 not really into games but watching movies on a „big screen“ and in 3D are worth a try at 500€ bucks VS 3500 bucks

This: ‘Apple has not yet defined the key applications for the Vision Pro’. This reflects my worry of the AVP being fantastic hardware with which there’ll be nothing to do once the initial ‘wow’ wears off…
What do you do with an iPad?

If you dont know how you are going to use an AVP than just imagine it is a special type of iPad. And if thats not worth it the device isn't worth it.

As someone wanting to snag a headset for personal use, it’s annoying to see how many people on this thread are trying to buy and resell. I have a hard time paying 3500, if you think people are gonna pay 8k on resell, good luck on that lol
You'd be surprised the amount of money some early adopters and people with lots of disposable income are willing to part with. if this thing really sells out in the first few minutes you could be sure that we will see them selling for some ridiculous amounts in the secondary market. Especially since people overseas won't be able to buy them from Apple. And there will be some youtubers who make hundreds of thousands from their channel that will be desperate to get their hands on one. It could potentially be total mayhem.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this 80,000 number. Given the idea of "just-in-time" supply chains, this seems like a good starting number. With more being made in the pipeline, I'm sure. Aren't all products built/distributed this way now?

This is a misreading of the apple watch. They weren't experimenting. They totally misread the market and didnt understand the device. The first watch wasn't an experiment. They just had the wrong emphasis. They adapted. Apple isn't experimenting with AVP. They made a device that they think does everything they want and is feature complete. But they will rapidly adapt if they are wrong (or crash and burn or both).

They probably all fit in a single shipping container. It would be funny if the ship would get stuck in the Suez canal or something. ;)

My comment had nothing to do with the Apple Watch. Rather it was with respect to early adopters, which would include many developers.
