Mostly interested in what Apple had done to shrink the Notch Size.

And I hope Ming is right about iPhone SE getting a power button Touch ID. ( Although he hasn't said anything since, so may be that was mixed up with iPad Air. )

I don't disagree but they aren't going to reduce it to them remove it. They will keep it til it's time to put the camera under the display

I don't disagree either, but it's still not any less glacial. I strongly believe it's a matter of release planning and not actual R&D.

Mostly interested in what Apple had done to shrink the Notch Size.

Let me save you some time and expectations: nothing.

When this particular rumor cycle started (with no authenticity of the claims, I know, but just to make a point) the 12 was rumored to be an absolutely monstrous upgrade. Thinner notch, new design, 5G, USB-C, 120Hz, LiDAR, etc. Now: thinner notch, new design, 5G (but only the faster variant of 5G on some models), USB-C, 120Hz, LiDAR... Oh and no charger or headphones in the box...

5G certainly means little to most consumers this year but I believe the average ownership of smartphones now is somewhere between 2-3 years, so it likely will be useful to have later in the phone’s ownership.

I just don't understand how they've gone this many years without addressing it or offering a "Pro" model option without OLED.
Years of "OLED good, LCD bad" repeated by tech bloggers/Samsung influencers means that that message is uncritically accepted by most. If they released a "Pro with LCD" the reviewers would unanimously slag them off for it.

Ya know, they could just make it slightly thicker, like people have been asking for, and then put the killer 120hz display in it with a big battery.
The problem is Apple has this perverted obsession with making their products thinner, even at the expense of features and quality of the product.

iPhones have been getting thicker since the 6. What a weird thing for you to lie about.

when everybody wants an narrower notch or no notch, why apple would make this happen only on the smaller and the most cheaper one and not for the entire line-up
We get that 5.4" has even less space...but for all displays we would get something if they narrow the notch
Again, a girl will disagree with me
the cheapest phone will probably have less tech in it, so it doesn't need the wider notch.

It seems that if 5G isn't important to you, the 11 Pro becomes one of the most attractive phones for the next couple of years:
  • The last 5.8"
  • Phenomenal battery life thanks to the larger battery (and rumors pointing to the 12 line-up as having smaller batteries)
  • Incredible cameras

It all sounds like a very underwhelming upgrade. Apple has had those before though. Their keynote will be heavily based on the 5G graphs and marketing BS to push these phones. Only those who are on very old phones would need to upgrade. Everybody else would wait another year.

Not surprised, as it's been said, Apple trickles out specs to keep the, sails in the sales full, yearly. They tend to adopt features only after years of refinement. Which benefits us all in the end. Buying Apple is not an early adopter type product. Although that is not to say Apple has never not done something, first. It's just not a priority.

Embarrassing? 120hz adds nothing other than a checkbox in the marketing material. I have an iPad Pro and it’s not a very big deal. There are more important things that can be implemented.

What's interesting about this is that I think, in general, you're right on iOS, because the OS is so fluid and responsive to touch already. But when you're using something like the Galaxy S20, where the UI is not as fluid, that 120hz makes the experience significantly better.

He did. At least, that's how I read it based on the context. Which, if someone can't tell the difference between 60Hz and 120Hz, I would question their eyesight.

I played around with the 120Hz iPad Pro at the Apple store last year and it was immediately noticeable how fluid it was.
I can never understand why people try to downplay ProMotion's significance. It's incredibly apparently and very difficult (for me, at least) to go back to displays that don't use it.

First all everyone wanted was dark mode now it’s 120. Apple gives you it when it can be delivered right.

I guess I’m the minority cause with a phone case on I don’t care as much as what the phone looks like I care how the phone operates and functions for me

It took them 13 years to give us a dark mode. You really mean to tell me Apple couldn’t figure out white vs dark for 13 years? Really?

Apple is trying to play catch-up with the Chinese Smartphone manufacturers that already have the 120Hz. Apple is still running at half the speeds on their high end smartphones. The same goes for the lightning port data transfer speeds
