No it's turned off by default, because it's such a huge battery drain. Even Samsung itself says "Standard Refresh Rate: 60 Hz, get longer battery life"

View attachment 952904

That's the reason Apple hasn't used it in its iPhones. Nobody will praise its screen, if the battery life is cut by 25%.
I'm talking about note 20 ultra

The one with LTPO it comes on as default

Apple has been leaving a lot to desire in terms of design lately. iPad display is very old style, iPhone displays with that notch look horrible, MacBooks look jurassic but Hey!!! Tim Cook has became a billionaire so it is probably our fault that keep giving Apple our money.

iPhone 13 or iPhone 2021:

120Hz, Touch ID, Small notch, LTPO display, new dual band 5G modem.

Thanks Apple, I will wait with my 11 Pro in hands one more year.
My current phone is the iphone 11 pro was dead set on iphone 12 pro max my mind changed probably go for the cheap iphone 12.... no way I'm paying £1199 base storage model for a phone without 120hz...

This is a bit of a hard sell for me.. at what point do you try and look at all the other flagship phones and wonder "What's taking apple so long for a faster refresh rate?"

Of course we're in rumor territory, but it's been on the iPad Pro long enough that it needs to be on some version of the iPhone.

Now I'm dealing with random location popups in iOS (thanks Apple for adding that "feature" we can't turn off) and now has me wondering - How are things on the other OS side 😅. Who knows what rabbit Apple will pull out of it's hat though

It’s embarrassing to not have the 120fps most of the rivals’ phones already include.

You act like this is a new thing for Apple or that they care about being 2-3 years behind with the iPhone. That's kind of par for the course. Apple usually has a more refined approach when they do get around to adding something but rarely is ever first with a feature.

I'm surprised we're seeing 5G and do not believe they will offer 2 5G versions of each model. I bet sub-6 only. They sure drug their feet with 3G/3G+/4G...

source for 2?

This guy has no source. He’s well known for making stuff up.

If you looked into his older posts of the SE2020 which he full on believed would have an 8MP Back camera ( not kidding) then you understand why

Also all of Apples CPU’s come equipped with one type of RAM not two as proof ( for example All A11/12/13 bionics have DDR4X). 😁😁😁😁

120Hz is completely unnecessary for 95% of phone users. It's a huge tax on the battery for what is an non-feature for the large majority of users.
Those users shouldn't be buying a "Pro" model, then. The Pro models should have the 120 Hz option, as that's what you're paying for when you buy the "Pro" model at the premium price.

Oh yeah, it's certainly not essential but it's really nice to see it! Apple has effectively solved the battery drain problem with the iPad Pro already https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2017...st-advanced-display-breakthrough-performance/, so battery issues shouldn't be much of an issue if the tech works on iPhone.

.. Wow that's in 2017!!

The deal breaker for me is that they’re changing the size of the 12 Pro from 5.8 inches to 6.1” 5.8” was the perfect size for me on my iPhone 11 Pro and no 120 hz!

Wait if they’re capable of making a narrower notch, why not put it on the other models as well?
Same reason they cannot do 120Hz this year - supply chain. Apple typically builds and sells more of a single model of iPhone than any other company in the world so it’s all or nothing. At least they have enough components to modify the notch in one model of iPhone if the rumors are true.

i'm totally puzzled how the refresh-rate-fetishist folks survived this long... i mean almost none of their computers supports 120hz, but spec wars, here they come

So are ultra high resolution displays and 8 GB or RAM and HDR, etc. When we deal with luxury devices, nothing is essential because it’s all about the fashion statement and one upping last year’s models with the new hotness.

120Hz display drivers likely generate more heat. More heat means more throttling of A14. It's not as simple as a bigger battery.

Please don't justify lazy engineering.

The iPhone is a chub compared to other devices that have all these features and while different chipsets, similar power and speed. Even weight, iPhones be heavy. Apple should be kicking Samsung's arse on this front (they used to). They have freed up some space under the hood after removing 3D touch and headphone jacks. I get the Face ID hardware is a bit bulbous but surely Apple's engineers can do better.

120hz would have been nice. 5G is in its infancy and for most people will not make a big difference.
Just realize that if you buy the iPhone 12 it’s basically an enhanced and updated iPhone 11 according to the leaks
And the iPhone 11 Pro was just an updated version of the XS, which was just an updated version of the X, which was just an updated version of the 8, which was just an updated version of the 7, which was just an updated version of the 6S, which was just an updated version of the 6, which was just an updated version of the 5S, which was just an updated version of the 5, which was just an updated version of the 4S, which was just an updated version of the 4, which was just an updated version of the 3GS, which was just an upgraded version of the 3G, which was just an upgraded version of the first generation iPhone.

Which 120Hz Android phones have you actually owned? BE HONEST.

The Samsung S20 5G looks absolutely beautiful at 2400x1080/120Hz. If your eyesight is so excellent that you think you need 3200x1440, then guess what? That mode also takes a hit on the battery due to pushing all those pixels.

Pick your poison -- I for one, having a Samsung S20 5G (actually I got it for the wife), can say that 2400x1080 looks laser sharp and she mentions how much she prefers the 120Hz over her old 60Hz display.

Also, doesn't the iPad Pro have ProMotion (120Hz) already? Is that somehow inferior to whatever Apple is trying to accomplish on the iPhone 12?
first of all, the iPad Pro has a variable refresh rate, and it’s an LCD display. The rumored 120 Hz that was being worked on for the iPhone 12 was not variable. It was stuck at either 60 or 120 Hz. With the iPad Pro, it can go down all the way to one hurt, and crank all the way up to 120 Hz when scrolling. It does this to save battery and decrease load on the processor, while at the same time retaining the full resolution of the screen.
That’s what I mean by no compromises. If my phone can go past 1080P and do 120 Hz, I want both. I shouldn’t have to trade off one feature just to have another, and apple would never allow something like that.

Can’t believe after how many years of ProMotion on the iPad Pro, they still have not figured it out. Almost redic even if I don’t really need it
Apple’s saying the same thing about you. They know what to do and have the money but that cannot overcome physics and the fact that a global pandemic shut down production lines for some key components this year. Every company is affected and now so will consumers be too.
