I will not upgrade from my iPhone X until they bring back touch ID. Even before mandatory face masks, Face ID was a useless add-on making the phone impractical to use use since it is unable to read faces in common lighting conditions and situations. I have a lengthy password for security reasons. I would love to go back to a 5.4" phone if I could.
Agreed. Faceid is only nice while using the phone directly in front of you. Otherwise it’s crap. Especially now with a mask. Horrible really.

Can someone explain why 90hz isn’t an option

Per Ross Young, the IC driver in these pro models supports up to 96hz natively. So 90hz should entirely be possible.

If Apple isn’t including it, it’s likely other reasons - 120hz makes sense because there would be a myriad of issues in forcing higher refresh rates when the Ic driver cannot natively push that much. No ProMotion for one thing.

But 90hz is a question mark. I presume it would boil down to user experience, or Apple sees it as a pointless implementation (a half way step)

If you YouTube Android Authority 90hz, they did a great video showing how the average person with a blind test is unable to tell the difference between 60hz and 90hz

What many of us have forgotten is that when Iphone X was released it was supposed to be the phone which would showcase the technology of the future. Back in the days this justified the increased price.

I wonder if this is no longer the case but it does give many of us a valid reason to expect some great new innovations from the pro line.

one plus pro 8 120hz with QHD!;)

The One Plus Pro 8 has an up to 21% worse battery life than its brother, the One Plus 8. And the OP8 Pro has a whopping 27% worse battery life with video playback compared to the iPhone 11 Pro Max. Even though its battery is over 500mAh larger than the 11 Pro Max.

Again, a concession Apple likely isn't willing to make.

Has kuo ever been wrong. I mean he said Apple Watch redesign by 2nd half 2021. Which I doubt since Apple does it always 4th quarter.

He has not really been wrong generally speaking, for years now. Not for big things like this. Can go to Apple track.org and see his correct/incorrect leaks

What he means by redesigned Apple Watch 2nd half, is likely the “series 7” will be a redesigned model

Makes sense - series 0, 1/2, 3 all had same design. 4, 5, and 6 will have same design. Not unfeasible that next year we’ll see a new design

I always get the new iPhone and probably will again if only because I'm on one of those yearly upgrade programs. If I kept the 11 Pro an extra year I'm sure it would knock a few hundred off the iPhone 13 Pro but I'd don't know...

this is the LEAST EXCITED ABOUT A NEW IPHONE I have ever been and it even has a new body design! 5G is barely available on Verizon, I could care less about AR and LIDAR etc. About the only thing nice is going to the 6.1 inch screen and having a slightly different body design. Considering the 12 Pro is unlikely to be available until November and the 13 Pro would be due in September 2021 it also means I'd end up paying a 2 month penalty to "upgrade early" in September next year which I know I would... a 2 month penalty for the privilege of using my new iPhone two months LESS. Ugh. I get this is all first world problems and in a time of pandemic.

I am excited about the Apple Watches since I have a 4 and want the always on screen...

120hz would have been nice. 5G is in its infancy and for most people will not make a big difference.
Just realize that if you buy the iPhone 12 it’s basically an enhanced and updated iPhone 11 according to the leaks

Isn’t every iPhone an enhanced and updated version of the one before it lol?

I don't really care about 120hz, but not doing anything with the size of the notch this year is just lazy.

And I don't wanna hear any BS from Apple about Lidar camera. The vast majority of the population couldn't care less about a Lidar camera. I've yet to see a single person here in macrumors give a good use case for it even having it.

You don't think I'd have already seen a 120Hz phone before posting that?

I couldn't tell the difference and have very good eyesight.

Again, why all of a sudden in the past year or two has 120Hz suddenly become an issue for people and phones? Like when the iPhone 8 came out, I can't remember a single person complaining about refresh rate. It's like people think 60Hz is suddenly unusable or something.
I have an iPad Pro and I played with a few phones in the store. Nothing ground braking. Really “useful” for reading articles and books or listening to music and podcasts. Someone is talking about gamers hacking their crt monitors ...

So Apple is expected to hold off iPhones at usual september event to show nothing in october. Seems legit.

I mean, they did tell their shareholders to expect iPhones later than usual...

And usually, they are announced early September and released at the end of September....

I don't say 60 hz are unusable but 120 hz with ios would create an immersive visual experience...As for your... experience ...you mean you browsed articles site etc and you did not experience the smoothness of browsing?Wow maybe you should have your eyes checked...

I don’t understand what point 120hz serves on a already smaller screen.

Its just a way to market it as "being the ultimate display." Its just like with this years 2020 iMac. They are touted as being capable of HDR video, which is a bunch of nonsense. I love my 2020 iMac, but it doesn't achieve even close to the level of brightness nits or blacks that would consider it a true HDR screen, and its no where near OLED. Its just a marketing term that makes things sound better.

Perverted? Phones have been getting thicker. Look up what the thinnest iPhone was. it was 7 years ago and they haven’t been getting thinner.

So true. The iPhone 6 was the thinnest phone. "Thinness" was only an "obsession" with the earliest models; which, I'm sure anyone in 2020 would agree, were undesirably thick. I have an old iPhone 4S sitting on my dusty shelf, and it's pretty damn chunky. Once iPhones became "thin enough", with the 6, it stopped being an "obsession." This link has a chart through 2018: https://www.howtogeek.com/396304/ev...-iphones-but-theyre-actually-getting-thicker/

The Note 20 Ultra cannot run 120hz at a 1440p resolution.

It's either 60hz @ 1440p or 120Hz @ 1080p.

A concession Apple is absolutely never willing to make.
And? Apple won't run true QHD either. S21 will likely have QHD at 120hz and one plus 8 Pro can run it now... Note ultra doesn't now for different reasons that are unknown

120hz at 1080p is far better than being forced to run 60hz on a device over 1k

Can’t believe after how many years of ProMotion on the iPad Pro, they still have not figured it out. Almost redic even if I don’t really need it

They have figured it out. Unfortunately, the technology isn’t available this year.

I don’t usually advocate using google as a sole source for research but in this case, Google LTPO OLED and also how oxide allows for variable refresh rates, which is the ProMotion feature you refer to.

Also google how product release planning, staging and manufacturing work and realize there are levels of the process that go right up until mass production and other levels that occur years in advance.

Depends who you ask. I find 1080p fine on small displays, and so a 120hz refresh rate would be fine. Others value higher resolution images.

These are the same groups of people who determined the sub 1080p displays of the 11, XR and SE 2020, 8/7/6s/SE/6/5s/5 were all “laughable”
