when everybody wants an narrower notch or no notch, why apple would make this happen only on the smaller and the most cheaper one and not for the entire line-up
We get that 5.4" has even less space...but for all displays we would get something if they narrow the notch
Again, a girl will disagree with me
Who is that girl you are talking about and why she always disagrees with you?

Is she @Theyayarealivin?

Low battery mode does that today. When it's turned on, the user chooses to artificially limit CPU clock, display brightness, and other niceties in order to preserve battery power. Nothing "awkward" about it. It's a good thing when the system gives the user the option to choose their priority at the time instead of making the compromise for them.

Although it’s not ideal (it could be automatic), that’s a more global solution *when battery is running low* and you need some more time. But I’d expect the manufacturer, who is responsible for the phone, to decide on delicate compromises. I respect that other companies don’t do that, but it’s a core value of Apple.

For owners of an iPhone 11 it doesn't sound like there is anything other than a new design with this years phones (unless you care about 5G). Talking about new designs, people seem to care less about that than they used to, maybe its because they have explored most designs and now we are just going back around again.

I am much more excited for AirTags and keeping my 11 Pro. I'd love to buy an Apple Watch too, but again the updates just aren't big enough to justify replacing my Series 4, just feels like throwing money away that could be better spent on something else.

I am really hoping for the 120Hz display as due to fast refresh rate of oled the 60Hz can be somewhat straining to the eyes with certain content.

On lcd it is not that much of an issue.

Literally the only feature that would make me upgrade from my 11 Pro Max. I’m on the upgrade program and I’m not even going to choose to upgrade. Unlike others, I can notice the difference on my iPad Pro. 5G no good when you are stuck at home on lockdown barely using any data outside of your WiFi anyway.

So, notch gonna happen.

Hopes up for next year. As always.

So, basically the iPhone 12 is really the iPhone 11S all along. I guess the 120Hz + narrow notch will be the highlight of the redesign for the iPhone 13/“true iPhone 12” phones next year.

More like the iPhone XSSS. Other than the square camera module and some component updates, the 11 was an 'S' level update too. This year's release was supposed to be the BIG news.

The difference is quite clear, I don't understand why people on social media downplay it.

My iPhone 11 Pro does follow this pattern at all; it's quite heavy and battery life is fantastic.

Nonetheless, lack of high-refresh display is disappointing if true, at least for the Pro models.

Same boat here. The 11 Pro has been a measurable upgrade from my iPhone 8 in terms of camera, performance and battery. The weight also feels right. The frosted glass is darn slippery though, had a few scares now and then. After 3 years of using the 10.5" Pro I would have expected the 120Hz would have been made its way to the iPhones. They sure didn't hesitate bringing the Lidar to them. I guess it's just a matter of priorities and Tim's KPIs than feasibility.

And no, I haven't gotten used to the notch, and I'd seriously consider a smaller device that doesn't sacrifice on specs.

120Hz seems like a great feature for an "S" year in 2021.
2020 is the year of 5G and a new design.
Guess I'll keep my Xs another year :)

Another 'S' year in 2021? Jesus, slacking much in Cupertino?

It’s embarrassing to not have the 120fps most of the rivals’ phones already include.

And for a flagship phone that's gonna cost 2-3 times as much too.

This will include both sub-6GHz-only and sub-6GHz-plus-mmWave versions of the 5.4-inch iPhone 12, 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max, 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro, and 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max, with shipments of the sub-6GHz-only versions beginning first.

He's not suggesting that there wil be the same models of iPhone with different gizzards, is he?

Sounds like this year is just focused on basic tech bumps and next year is when we get a whole bunch of the cool things trialed on iPad (120Hz screen, maybe fingerprint reader in power button, etc). On the fence whether it’ll be worth replacing my 8 with a 12/12 pro, guess I’ll see what they actually announce.

Like the LiDAR scanner that will support Apple's thrust into AR and apps?

Agreed. And for those that think going thicker is the solution, it’s interesting to note that Samsung went thinner on their latest Note, in large part because the bigger the device the harder it is to hold when it’s thick.

I’m definitely getting tired of reading all the complaints about as yet unreleased iPhones and why Apple should have done this or that. There is just too much ignorance when it comes to understanding the challenges and trade-offs required when bringing a consumer product to market.
On top of that, I’m sick and tired of reading the “well Android companies can do it, why can’t Apple.”
Consider that being on top can be a blessing and a curse. Some galaxy models take months to get to the 1 million devices sold Mark. Apple sells millions of devices in the first weekend of release. It’s a lot less demanding for Samsung to make tens of thousands of 120 Hz capable phones at a time. It’s a lot more to ask to make tens of millions of 120 Hz capable devices at a time.
Keep in mind, if Apple wanted to, they could make a phone with 120 Hz, with a rocksolid battery, 12GB of RAM, 5 TB of storage, and absolutely insane unbelievable specs. They could make one of those. What they couldn’t do is mass produce millions and millions and millions of them at an affordable price

I think only a few countries are getting SKUs with mmWave support. Most will be sub-6 only across all models.

Probably because there's not enough space to show all of the icons on the left and right, otherwise. I know it's quite cramped as-is on the X.
again,, if they can make it narrow , so the tech is already there, the R&D is spend..why not for the others....not even the iphone pro max you can have all of icons...you have the same as the smaller pro..on the Pro models would be nice to have also an alarm icon or dnd. But again, like you said, on the smaller one they didnt had the space to show the same number of icons they have on the other models

In other words, the only reason, it seems, that Apple is going to be calling this year’s phones the iPhone 12 is because of the 5G radios and 5G capability. I think that if 5G wasn’t the headlining feature, Apple would’ve touted these phones as the iPhone 11S, don’t you think so too?
Also the new re-design ;) Square edges. Major hardware upgrade.

That statement makes absolutely no sense as the article says Apple will ship the 120hz "feature" next year.

The fact that other phone makers have no issues implementing a 120hz display makes Apple look a bit behind the times.
The new Samsung S20 5G (see, it has TWO new features!) has a setting to enable or disable 120hz. The user can actually choose between display quality or battery life. To be honest, even with 120hz enabled, the battery life is excellent.

Apple could have easily put a 60hz/120hz setting in there.
You still haven’t explained what 120hz means to the average smartphone user.

This iPad Air 4 sounds interesting, it sounds like it’s getting closer to the 11” iPad Pro, but without Face ID and the latest processor (also LIDAR).
