It means a smoother UI experience. It’s called ProMotion.

And it's already been around for 3+ years on the iPad Pro. You'd have expected it to make its way to all devices by now. LiDar has. I really doubt it was a matter of feasibility and not a KPI checklist.

Gahhh I’m feeling the same and I really have the itch to get a new phone. With how god awful 2020 has been, I wanna buy a new shiny thing. I want something to get excited about. Sad part? Nothing about the iPhone 12 gets me excited

100%

Maybe no notch.

One can only hope

Hmm...OK, well I have the latest iPad Pro and I honestly can’t tell the difference between it and the previous model that didn’t have ProMotion. But maybe that’s just me. I’ve never had an issue with UI smoothness on iOS.

This reminds me of all the 1080p/4K discussions when most people aren’t looking at their iPhone thinking god the display is awful.

Same. I love my iPad Pro 12.9” (2018) and perhaps the ProMotion display is part of the reason. But if it is, I’m not noticing it. I’ve said this in other posts where people say 120Hz refresh rates are so much better, and when I ask why, I get the ”When you fast scroll or swipe between apps, it’s really smooth.”, which at least to me is not something I care about and it has zero benefit in my everyday use of the device.

I just watched a YT video where someone compared the new Note to the iPhone 11PM, and to show just how much smoother the Note’s 120Hz screen is, they slowed down the video comparison so you could see the 60Hz refresh on the iPhone. Of course that’s not something anyone would notice in everyday use because it isn’t visible in real life.

120 rate on a phone is a sales gimmick.
Most YouTube reviews of Android phones are choosing their daily driver based on the refresh rate, some are saying after using high refresh rate and going back to 60hz it makes the phone look like its stuttering and having performance problems. MKBHD even said he would take the lower battery life, and lower resolution mode of the phone, and enable the high refresh rate.

I have the 2017 iPad Pro, I think it has pro motion, but personally I can’t tell the difference between it and my iPhone 11 Pro Max. That’s not to say it won’t be nice, it’s just that outside of this forum and tech enthusiast, most people don’t care.
I have the 2017 iPad Pro and 120 Hz is a totally obvious difference. That said, I could do without 120 Hz.

What I am more concerned about is the PWM frequency.

BTW, I wonder if the 2020 iPhones will be able to drop down to 24 Hz for 24 Hz video content. The 120 Hz ProMotion iPad Pros can do this.

Without 120hz what even is this upgrade? The body redesign is great but other than that all we're getting is A14, 5G (mostly useless), and a LiDaR sensor?

This was the most excited I'd been for an iPhone since the X and that is quickly deflating.

Plus, if Apple ships a $1000+ phone without 120hz or some other killer feature it's going to be absolutely killed by reviewers just like the XS was. 90 degree angles instead of curves isn't really exciting if it's the only thing to be excited about.

Same here. Excitement/anticipation have evaporated. :(

Well, the Lidar sensor is supposed to be the "killer" feature... for which I doubt anyone cares. 5G ain't gonna be a thing in the EU for a long time. So yea, I think it's all about plagiarising the square edges from the iPhone 4/5.

Going from 11 pro max with 60hz to 120hx on the note ultra for me the difference is noticeable in a good way.

however even if it’s not a big deal for some for what you are paying it needs to have it...bottom line. For 1100-1500 you need to have that higher refresh rate.

for 700-800? You can excuse it but not for over 1k.

Careful wording... the iPhone 12 won't... I still think the 12 Pro Max - will.
No he said lineup so we need to give up already this year won’t be a fresh year

for the first time in a long time I’m not even excited anymore about new products this year the watch seems to have only one health feature I don’t need and phone just has 5g and new design
