I welcome more storage! Let’s go!!!!!
Does anyone else remember when Apple desktops/laptops used to ship with 500GB 5400rpm spinning hard drives? Then they knocked it all the way down to 128gb base or 256gb+ solid state at a huge premium 😂. Classic Apple. Here we are waiting for 1TB on the iPhone Pros when iPad Pros already have 1TB AND 2TB storage tiers, lol.

What about somehow deploying the actual required 5 billion GB storage space assuming the free storage space is bumped from 5GB to 10GB? Would you like apple bumping the price by a factor of 10 to cover those “free storage” cost?
Five times that - upgrading to 50 GB - costs 79 pennies a month.

If we guessed a phone's life to be five years, that would only cost £17.95 for that phone's life. Not exactly difficult to incorporate that into the prices - especially as I am quoting retail prices but it would only be costing Apple at internal rates.

But if you are only suggesting a ninth of that (a simple increase from 5 to 10), that would be less than two pounds for the five years.

I would think this would come with increased price for the non-Pro 13. If true, this would be 1 less thing to distinguish the Pro model from the non-Pro. In fact, it was a big reason I was going to go with the Pro. For me, the greater storagr combined with the other benefits justified the extra cost. Now I’ll have to really think about it unless the 13 goes up in price.
Storage shouldn’t be premium option. There are people who care more about have bigger storage options than those dying to have improvements to an already great camera.

Price aside, how about actual space to store all of those new hard drives, server racks and datacenters? Those don’t come in cheap, and look at how apple is willing to destroy local habitat for a new datacenter, I’m not entirely sure bumping up free storage is the way to go here.

Besides, the cost of another 128GB NAND flash chip might be the same for the added 50GB storage subscription cost, based on your estimate. That’s double the local storage that apple doesn’t have to maintain.

I don't completely disagree - but a 5GB increase when a single drive comes at 12TB capacity is a tiny fraction of a drive.

With the rumored new photo and video features coming out (at least on the Pro models), having the extra storage will definitely be convenient.

Bokeh Video with ProRes…yeesh…maybe I should just buy a stereo pair of 1TB Pros!

When I was a kid, one day I overhead grown-ups planning a surprise party for one of my cousins. I thought I was doing my cousin a favor by tell them. Instead, I wound up getting excluded from the party and had to sit home while all the other kids got to go to the pizzeria and eat cake and ice cream. The lesson I learned that day: DON’T SPOIL THE SURPRISE!

That said…I’ll take the 512GB iPhone 13, please.

128GB as the base? I don’t even use 40GB of the 64GB on my 11 Pro. I guess when I get the 13 mini (my presumed next one) I’ll be set for a good long time.

I for one will be getting the 1TB capacity. Yes it will cost an arm and a leg, but my wife and I just got our first child and have been filming him almost every day. Esp at 4k. 256GB fills up fast (on both our phones).
Congratulations! What a precious time. I would urge you to get Filmic Pro to take your video file quality to the next level. To think what we had to do to get quality video (lugging around the DSLR) and the sacrifices that had to be made with mobile, yet now that same level is possible in your pocket if you know how to unlock it.

You really have to ask? Movies are for a big screen. iPad is ok but what drives me nuts is to see people watching quality movies on their tiny screens. The amount of details etc. they will miss is making me sad everytime.
You're living in the past.
Step in to 21st.
If you're feeling some way about what someone else is doing with their devices, that's what's really sad.

You tell them to purchase Filmic Pro, but provide no reason why.
Filmic Pro is totally unnecessary for what they mention.
It's overkill.

Again, it adds up. Fraction for a single drive. Not so much when you need to deploy millions of them. This doesn’t even count for power and property, much less labour.

Yes. And I’m flooored to see people enjoying playing games on that puny little screen as well. Bad for eyes too.

I feel like this means Apple will bump up the price of the 13 Pro and Pro Max by at least 50 bucks to maintain a (minimum) 200 dollar spread between the non pro and pro phones. It’s one way to justify the price increase by convincing people it’s because of the new ProMotion display etc.

Last year if you got 128 on your iPhone 12 then it was “only” 150 to go with the Pro.
Or maybe not, Apple does want to nudge you to get the Pro models, so you spend more money. If the price difference is minimal enough, some people will be tempted to just get the Pro models.

Upsize your happy meal. :)

If there’s really a 512 GB 13 mini, I will be throwing my money so hard at Apple for it. 🤣. Because if it’s truly the last mini, I will want to keep it going for a few years and will accumulate photos and videos on it.

I find this particular rumor hard to believe though. I’ll be okay with 256 GB if the rumor doesn’t pan out.

A 1tb option is fine.
But I assume those who keep upwards of 1 TB of video or photos on their iPhone also have it all backed up on some cloud storage.

If not, that’s chancing to lose a lot of information should you lose your phone.

So if you do have it backed up, why do you need it constantly on your iPhone? Do you need to reference these photos on a regular basis? If it’s music, surely you don’t have to have every song at your disposal.
Just curious.
