Keep the SE (the new mini) and keep both sizes of the Pro models. But if they bring in an Ultra high end titanium (or whatever) for the deep pocket users, they’ll have to get rid of the norms. Don’t see them making 7 models, or making the Ultras the new standard ‘Pro’ and bumping the start price to $1,300-$1,500.

As someone who doesn't like anything larger than the iPhone Mini line (and prefers slightly smaller SE1 honestly), I find all of this so depressing.

Apple currently make exactly zero phones I even want...
...and it feels like they are moving further away from me as a customer.

That would be a stupid move. Then why would the regular Pro be a Pro at all. Keep them the same, as some people like a smaller phone and others the Max phone.

So iPhone SE becomes SE Lite
iPhone 14 becomes IPhone SE
iPhone 14 Pro would become a IPhone 14 or S model with watered down features
The Pro becomes Ultra.

I think it’s confusing and bad news. Why should Pro or ultra features be forced in a bigger size? Ultra is awful branding anyway the new watch should have stuck with Pro branding.

Moves the standard 14 to base line SE and the Pro to a IPhone 14 minus the extra features

I used the "Pro Max" size iPhone for several months and absolutely hated it. Barely fits my hand, awkward to hold. Felt like holding an iPad up to my ear. I quickly replaced it with the smaller size Pro.

I get that a Pro Max may have more internal room for lens mechanisms. So if a Pro Max has better photography specs than a Pro, that's understandable. But it would be a shame if Apple makes a host of other features only available to the Pro Max.

I can never get enough screen.

If only there was a device with cellular capabilities that had an 8.3” screen, I would jump all over that.

🤔 anyone know of something like that?
Try the Samsungs that fold. I have tried the Huawei foldable phones of a friend in my country and at first I did it see the point of heavier and “everything bigger”, but the I saw that you can have a chat window on 1 half and the messages on the other half, or a super nice maps view, or show photos you Justo took to your friends in a large screen, I was convinced that foldable, but lite devices are the “ultra” versions!

The 14 Pro Max may not be revolutionary for a lot of folks, but coming from the regular 12 to the 14 PRO MAX is a great upgrade for me. The always-on display and the longer battery life are great improvements for me. Not to mention the camera improvements.
I wanted to upgrade my 12 and needed longer battery life as my previous one before that was a Pro, and previously with features being almost the same between the regular iPhone, I would have just gotten the regular one. But I felt if I was going to upgrade, I might as well get the one with the most features. Before the Pro was basically just a fancier more premium case, now it's more to consider for those upgrading.

The good thing is, the new features are pricey features that Apple has to pay down the R&D with someone, a paying customer. But the following year, with economies of scale it can pass down those features to all iPhone models. So if only the premium iPhones get the latests bells and whistles the first year, and they can get passed down to regular iPhones the following year, then we all win. No problem.

I have 13 Pro Max but after almost a year of using the biggest iPhone I ordered regular Pro this time because Max is so big and heavy. I want the best iPhone but I’m not a giant. I don’t want any difference between the models. Why? I won’t buy the bigger iPhone. I just can’t use it even if I want it. It’s just ridiculous. Why would Apple punish people like me this way. Hope they won’t do that.

So, just because the Pro Max is selling 10% more than the Pro, it deserves to have more features? Seems illogical. Doesn't Apple have its phones mostly planned out years in advance, anyways?

Kinda sad to be honest but oh well. It makes sense to maximize use of the space you have in the phone for additional features.

I think a good way to go about this next year would be:

1) iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
2) iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra (pro is smaller, more capable, then ultra packs in a bigger size and has a few differentiating features)

No need for the "Pro Max" name anymore.

My gosh Apple, not again!!!

Please choose your favorite legacy Apple great feature:

-making larger the leap between iPhone Pro Max and the other iPhones
-Thinner devices with laughable battery
-limiting Macbooks ports to all USB-C
-bringing back butterfly keyboard "version 3"
-making a expensive touchbar for keeping your eyes distracting from the working area (also known as "the screen") but only at the Starbucks, with no continuity in desktop's workflows.
-take a superb software and delete features to the bone (Quicktime Pro, Final Cut Pro, macOS Monterey...)

Apple, our motto is "don't get relax, we can limit your workflow again at anytime!"

forcing people to get the largest option to get the best features just to make more money is, just ... I dont know how to describe it... maybe "shameless"
