I have to see it in-person and maybe have a week of using it to know for sure. I am open to the idea, some of the naysayers will dismiss it now and when it’s released will chant its the best device ever. Same song with anything new.Who’s ready for a foldable iPhone?
While Apple is at it can their implement any orientation FaceID 😃Instead of investing millions of dollars on under Screen tech they could just take the power button TouchID part from the iPad Air and iPad mini. Cost: $5. Time to implement: 2 weeks.
Rewrite the authentication algorithm:
If (face visible) use FaceID
Else if (mask on) use TouchID
Else fail login
Exactly. Where's my S7 watch? At this point, I'm ready for rumors about when products which have already been announced will become available for purchase.
Unless we have another pandemic. If you wait till 3.5 years after the pandemic to add it back, then don’t bother.
Same here. StarTAC and Nokia 8810 are probably in the Olympus of mobile technology. I have fond memories of them.I loved my StarTAC phone! It was GREAT!!! I had ALL the accessories. I even had the in-car install amplifier/etc kit! I thought it was, and still is, one of the very best phones I had pre-iPhone. Bar none! Loved it. Wish I stiell had it, not that it would work...
“...Your Scientists Were So Preoccupied With Whether Or Not They Could, They Didn’t Stop To Think If They Should.”Agreed.
In defense of Kuo, with the messy global supply chains it’s probably very difficult to see where things are going.Kuo got quite a lot wrong this year… now taking him with a pinch of salt
Not sure how much time Apple needs to refine iPhone hardware but including power button TouchID was a slim stretch on the 13 but a good possibility on the 14.In defense of Kuo, with the messy global supply chains it’s probably very difficult to see where things are going.
This is certainly possible but in that case it was all the more imperative they added some form of Touch ID back in addition to Face ID. They've used Touch ID in the power button - should have used that while they are trying to perfect the under the screen Touch ID tech. Instead they've done nothing and if Kuo is right are not planning to do anything next year either.Well, I cannot be sure, of course, but… maybe with a mask on (properly on), then there is not enough points available to securely identify a person. FaceID must be secure, if one in ten, or even one in a hundred people can unlock your phone with a mask, it's not good anymore. Remember that it is used also for ApplePay, and banks require a good enough authentication, which probably explains why early Android TouchID copies were not allowed to be used to authenticate payments.
I don't know, of course, but I can't imagine that Apple did not try hard to make FaceID work securely when the user wears a mask. It they chose to use the Apple Watch instead, I'm inclined to think that's because they concluded that FaceID could not be used securely with a mask.
IMO FaceID-only is a bad thing. I can't count the number of times I wanted to check my lock screen without actually unlocking my phone. On the other side of that, during this pandemic (as one that does NOT have an Apple Watch) FaceID has been nothing but a hassle.Pandemic asides, I think a faster Face ID that also works at larger angles is a better overhaul solution than Touch ID.
Well, iPhone 13 basically is the same design that iPhone 12, 11 and even X, so for me it is a step forward to fully wear down the current iPhone design, which means a step forward to the year when Apple will irremediably release it’s foldable/flip iPhone, very in spite of the haters. So at the end, these are great news!
Gosh we can't possibly make the Chinese re-engineer their $5 cases can we?All the comments about adding touchID to the power button .... I'm guessing they won't due to cases. 99% cover up the power button.
Well you can always get yourself a "Jitterbug" it's just like that.
I was going to respond buy @Luke MacWalker pretty much covered it all.How about while yawning? Laughing? In the dark on my nightstand? In my pocket? Laying flat on my desk 2 feet away? While angled toward a checkstand paypoint reader?
FaceID is just a failure. It works in so many fewer situations than TouchID. Just because a tech is cool and impressive, doesn't mean it's practical or an improvement.
Unlucky…
I enjoy it as it works close to 100% on the first try for me.
It also works when my hands are wet, dirty, when I wear gloves (and in winter here, I cannot do without them!), in the dark too, when laughing I don't know but when smiling, sure, it works with or without glasses, including sunglasses, with a hood or cap…
The only really failing point for me was when wearing a mask… until the Apple Watch solved this problem.
So… As far as I'm concerned, I don't mind TouchID coming back as long as FaceID stays, as it is so much better for me.

Hmmh, no-one uses cases for their phones I supposeNot sure what is Apple’s resistance to include power button TouchID in the iPhone at this point. It’s on the Air 4 and mini 6, have it as an second authentication method, later when it has worked the bugs it can be moved to under display TouchID. Just boggles the mind.
