How about while yawning? Laughing? In the dark on my nightstand? In my pocket? Laying flat on my desk 2 feet away? While angled toward a checkstand paypoint reader?
FaceID is just a failure. It works in so many fewer situations than TouchID. Just because a tech is cool and impressive, doesn't mean it's practical or an improvement.
Unlucky…
I enjoy it as it works close to 100% on the first try for me.
It also works when my hands are wet, dirty, when I wear gloves (and in winter here, I cannot do without them!), in the dark too, when laughing I don't know but when smiling, sure, it works with or without glasses, including sunglasses, with a hood or cap…
The only really failing point for me was when wearing a mask… until the Apple Watch solved this problem.
So… As far as I'm concerned, I don't mind TouchID coming back as long as FaceID stays, as it is so much better for me.

Sorry But Kuo's rep was damaged pressing hard and flat edge Watch.

Still A foldable iPhone ... I don't think will occur. a Rollable screen yes.
- appeals to more users at once (small phone, roll up to win BIG phone) ;)
- much less damage from cracks of a hard fine edge for the fold vs a roll.

Better tolerances for dust and water resistance than even Galaxy Fold 3 currently has.

This should definitely have been at least the interim solution. I am frankly flabbergasted that Apple has not addresses the issue of masks at all this year. They had more than a year to do something about it. They have done NOTHING (I don't want to hear about unlocking with Apple Watch - haven't got one, don't want one). Face ID was not even mentioned during the keynote and it is barely mantioned in the promo materials for iphone 13. It's absolutely clear now that masks are not going away any time soon. There needs to be a method to quickly authenticate with masks on. Apple not doing anything about it for 2 more years is a major fail.
Well, I cannot be sure, of course, but… maybe with a mask on (properly on), then there is not enough points available to securely identify a person. FaceID must be secure, if one in ten, or even one in a hundred people can unlock your phone with a mask, it's not good anymore. Remember that it is used also for ApplePay, and banks require a good enough authentication, which probably explains why early Android TouchID copies were not allowed to be used to authenticate payments.
I don't know, of course, but I can't imagine that Apple did not try hard to make FaceID work securely when the user wears a mask. It they chose to use the Apple Watch instead, I'm inclined to think that's because they concluded that FaceID could not be used securely with a mask.

Who’s ready for a foldable iPhone?

Rollable yes, foldable no thanks ... don't need the excuse for a $3K non max iPhone that folds ;)
Lookup artist renditions of rollable galaxy phone you'll see how rollable phone is much better.

I'll try to edit this post with these.

done. Ignore the Android and Samsung stuff but you get the idea

If Apple did not release underscreen Touch ID in the middle of a pandemic then Apple will never release it. KUO has already moved his date twice. Face it it’s not happening unfortunately.
If Apple really wanted they could have put it in the power button

Please, no foldable iPhone. Not in 2022, not in 2023.... never please.
Why not? I don't think I would be in the market for a foldable (I already prefer smaller screens anyway), but I understand the appear of a smaller phone that can expand to have a larger screen. I don't expect that all phones would use this form but I doesn't bother me is some people want this. I can accept that.

It is still early in development for foldables. The first couple of versions were a little rough, but from the reviews I've seen of the most recent Samsungs, they are getting to be pretty good and Samsung is working out the problems and refining their manufacturing process.

This seems like a natural expansion of the product lines for smart phones and I assume that Apple is working on one deep in their skunkworks. It will be interesting to see how this plays out between Samsung's public development process and Apple's secretive process.

Please, no foldable phones. We've spent years getting rid of troublesome fragile mechanical components in smartphones. The last thing I want is for phones to go back to that.
How would this be "go back to that"?

If Apple were to launch a foldable phone, that doesn't mean that they abandon the monolithic phone form. You would not be forced to buy a foldable.

Samsung is iteratively refining their foldable product and I have not heard reports of problems with the hinge. The rest of the phone keeps getting better with each release. I assume that Apple is working on something in a secret room in Apple Park and that they are also trying to solve these issues.

Stop innovating, please "mdekker" doesn't like it! No more foldable phone, decided today!
LOL I can only wish Tim takes me as seriously as you do. I would have had a new upgradable and expandable MacBook Pro or Air, a 10Tb Time Capsule with recent Wifi hardware, an Apple Watch which actually looked like a watch and no foldable iPhone, EVER.

New reports say usb-c iPhone has been moved to 2024. Also redesigned MacBook pros pushed to 2025. Apple is pathetic now. When you trade in the locked-in customers' disappointment, you know you've failed. I don't care how much money the company makes, it's gotta be horrible for morale working there nowadays.

Said it on the other article, will say it again: Yesterday it was Gurman, today it’s Kuo… I wonder if we can actually trust these “leakers” anymore.
What's to trust? These are leaks, these are rumors. The point is that Apple does not pre-announce product so if we want to speculate on upcoming products, we have the rumors as fodder for the discussions. Generally, the further out the timelines the less accurate, no surprise. Right now, with the manufacturing supply lines so disrupted, the accuracy of rumors is even lower. If you don't want to speculate, don't read the articles. Just complaining about rumors on a rumors site is meta-silly.

I'm expecting more of the same in 2022 those phones are probably being finalized or close to it

I'm waiting for a redesign so 2023 at the earliest

Not sure what is Apple’s resistance to include power button TouchID in the iPhone at this point. It’s on the Air 4 and mini 6, have it as an second authentication method, later when it has worked the bugs it can be moved to under display TouchID. Just boggles the mind.

I don't understand and I might be missing something, but an under screen touchID doesn't even seem necessary.

They have a working way of having touchID on the power button on the iPad. Why wouldn't they just add it to the iPhone? That seems like it would work fine right? What am I missing?
Samsung had it (was apparently not great) in the S10E, so like going on 3+ years ago? The TouchID on my iPad Air has been good though.
