No it’s not, will not come back to iPhoneIf Apple putting Touch ID on a bunch of new devices is any indication, it will be back on the iPhone at some point.
Unlucky…How about while yawning? Laughing? In the dark on my nightstand? In my pocket? Laying flat on my desk 2 feet away? While angled toward a checkstand paypoint reader?
FaceID is just a failure. It works in so many fewer situations than TouchID. Just because a tech is cool and impressive, doesn't mean it's practical or an improvement.
Well, I cannot be sure, of course, but… maybe with a mask on (properly on), then there is not enough points available to securely identify a person. FaceID must be secure, if one in ten, or even one in a hundred people can unlock your phone with a mask, it's not good anymore. Remember that it is used also for ApplePay, and banks require a good enough authentication, which probably explains why early Android TouchID copies were not allowed to be used to authenticate payments. This should definitely have been at least the interim solution. I am frankly flabbergasted that Apple has not addresses the issue of masks at all this year. They had more than a year to do something about it. They have done NOTHING (I don't want to hear about unlocking with Apple Watch - haven't got one, don't want one). Face ID was not even mentioned during the keynote and it is barely mantioned in the promo materials for iphone 13. It's absolutely clear now that masks are not going away any time soon. There needs to be a method to quickly authenticate with masks on. Apple not doing anything about it for 2 more years is a major fail.
Who’s ready for a foldable iPhone?
Why not? I don't think I would be in the market for a foldable (I already prefer smaller screens anyway), but I understand the appear of a smaller phone that can expand to have a larger screen. I don't expect that all phones would use this form but I doesn't bother me is some people want this. I can accept that. Please, no foldable iPhone. Not in 2022, not in 2023.... never please.
How would this be "go back to that"?Please, no foldable phones. We've spent years getting rid of troublesome fragile mechanical components in smartphones. The last thing I want is for phones to go back to that.
Why would you be concerned that someone else's phone might be fragile?Nope, not the least. I'm concerned that it will be too fragile, as the competition already showed.
That's for Apple to decide, not you.No it’s not, will not come back to iPhone
LOL I can only wish Tim takes me as seriously as you do. I would have had a new upgradable and expandable MacBook Pro or Air, a 10Tb Time Capsule with recent Wifi hardware, an Apple Watch which actually looked like a watch and no foldable iPhone, EVER.Stop innovating, please "mdekker" doesn't like it! No more foldable phone, decided today!
What's to trust? These are leaks, these are rumors. The point is that Apple does not pre-announce product so if we want to speculate on upcoming products, we have the rumors as fodder for the discussions. Generally, the further out the timelines the less accurate, no surprise. Right now, with the manufacturing supply lines so disrupted, the accuracy of rumors is even lower. If you don't want to speculate, don't read the articles. Just complaining about rumors on a rumors site is meta-silly.Said it on the other article, will say it again: Yesterday it was Gurman, today it’s Kuo… I wonder if we can actually trust these “leakers” anymore.
I’m not “deciding”, just sharing my prediction… like it or notThat's for Apple to decide, not you.
maybe... oh, look... the screen is twice as large!Who’s really asking for a foldable phone?
I just don’t get it. Why? Apart from the “oh, look, it folds” what’s the point?
Can’t see Apple doing it.
Also very odd dimensions when unfolded.I went into my local EE store to get a new SIM, and I saw the 2 shamsung foldable phones.....
Why? Seriously, why? What is the point. It's like Nintendo invented a phone. It's a too thick phone and a too small tablet, all with a gross crease in the screen. Seriously, why?
Just seems like a solution looking for a problemAlso very odd dimensions when unfolded.
Samsung had it (was apparently not great) in the S10E, so like going on 3+ years ago? The TouchID on my iPad Air has been good though.I don't understand and I might be missing something, but an under screen touchID doesn't even seem necessary.
They have a working way of having touchID on the power button on the iPad. Why wouldn't they just add it to the iPhone? That seems like it would work fine right? What am I missing?
