You can already find the existing AirPods 2 for $99 right now. Their regular price is $129.

Who is taking the hit on those? Apple? Or Best Buy, Amazon, etc?

And what would Apple have to remove to make a new set of $99 regular price AirPods?

🤔

As early as next year? As in 2024?! What!!! I thought the new AirPods Max with USB-C was supposed to launch this year?

How hard can it be to switch to a USB-C socket and design a decent travel case for the damn things? Ridiculous.

I love my AirPods Max. I'm working remotely and the noise cancelling has been amazing. I don't think I need an upgrade, but if the ANC is improved, I might upgrade.

I bet you everything that I have that the 2nd Gen AirPods Max will have lossless support via a wired connection. Seriously, this is the biggest and dumbest omission from the priciest headset that Apple currently sells.
a lot of dumb omissions, no power on/off button, no passive mode (headphones cannot work without battery), no headphone jack, Apple really tried to reach the dumbest levels with these... and ofc what's dumb for every Airpods outhere, no way to force firmware update...

Spot on the comment! 👏🏻👏🏻

I have a feeling Apple isn't confident as well. Unsure of the economy. Thus, they are saving money by not innovating much in 2023 already. (It's still too early to call Apple out, Time will tell).

Everything is pretty much lined up for 2024/2025. Think about it, After long 21 years (2 decades) later Apple broke its own tradition.

I suspect Apple’s likely less worried about their own spending and much more concerned about the customers’ spending potential. Hopefully it’s not as bad as some are expecting.

See, I really want to give the AirPods Max a try, but I just can't bring myself to drop even $400 for a pair (on sale). I don't have a big enough use case for them outside work (where I already have a pair of considerably cheaper headphones that do just fine), but I still look at them with just the tiniest bit of envy.

If at some point they do release a revision, and the original model drops further in price in a clearance sale somewhere, I would bit the bullet. But still seems like a big ask for an accessory.

Garbage product…have you ever used AirPods Max?

Single-best headphone experience I’ve ever had.

I have AirPods Maxes too, had them since Summer 2021 and use them everyday, but yeah they're garbage lmao. No power button to turn them off, a lightning connector on them instead of USB-C, Siri constantly annoying you interrupting your content, they don't have a proper case, and the biggest issue: NO AUX MODE

That last one is the biggest thing as there's hardly any bluetooth headset that doesn't have an aux mode. No power delivery from an aux jack, and no lossless audio quality either. Eventually the battery in those Maxes is not gonna hold a charge anymore just like all other bluetooth headphones, so without an aux mode they just become ewaste, ewaste you spent over $500 on.

Mass shipments of second-generation AirPods Max and more affordable AirPods will likely begin in the second half of 2024 or the first half of 2025, according to the latest information shared by Apple supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.

In a series of tweets today, Kuo said Apple is aiming for a $99 price for the more affordable standard AirPods. Currently, the $129 second-generation AirPods are the cheapest option from Apple, while the third-generation AirPods are priced at $169 with a Lightning charging case and at $179 with a MagSafe case. This is the second time lower-priced AirPods have been rumored in as many weeks following a prediction from analyst Jeff Pu.

Kuo did not offer any additional details about the new AirPods Max. Apple's premium over-ear noise canceling headphones were first released in December 2020 for $549, and we've previously outlined new features that would make sense for the next-generation pair, such as a USB-C port instead of Lightning, improved noise cancelation, longer battery life, new color options, a U1 chip for Precision Finding in the Find My app, and more.
