I had pretty much given up on the AirPower mat...If this thing is more than $100, I cannot even begin to justify it. Even, if it is $100, that is still pretty heavy when I can get a perfectly good wireless charger for $20 on Amazon. I think it needs to be priced at $79 to be successful. Ideally, it would be priced at $49 but I don't see that happening.

I doubt it’ll have a better processor the the iPad, especially if it’s going at a lower price point.
I can see Apple throwing in an A11 just so they can avoid updating it for longer. iPad will probably see another update in the spring, whereas the Mini (if this is real) will probably just sit in their lineup for another 3 years.

Strange of them to host in Brooklyn if they are overhauling/introducing new Macs as well. I thought the BAM thing was so they could focus on creativity on iPads. I guess it could be creativity with iPads and Macs.

Yeah, I doubt the mini will upstage the iPad. 2GB RAM, Non-laminated panel. A10. 32GB. Pencil support (maybe). Anything else just muddies the product matrix. Unless the iPad gets a A11 bump, I think that's what we can logically expect.

I agree...I expect the 32GB and 128GB to match the regular iPad, with the same $100 price difference between the two. The biggest question is will there be a lower price or not. I hazard a guess that the 32GB could be $299 and the 128GB would be $399, with the requisite $129 upcharge for LTE. I think Pencil support is a given, really...it’s another USP for marketing and another $100 in Apple’s pocket.

Third-party vertical integration (pilots, restaurants, retail, systems monitoring, etc) seems to be a very strong segment for the mini. Hopefully, this is why Apple decides not to just let it fade off into the sunset. There is money to be made from this device.

So basically, stuff may or may not happen.

I’d say it’s 50/50, though there’s only a 25% chance of that...

What if the new Mini is also edge to edge display? They could make it a whole lot smaller.

I wasn't expecting this. My wife has a Mini 2 that she wants to update and I told her they aren't making new Minis so she was going to get my iPad Pro 10.5" and I was going to get the new 12.9" with the smaller enclosure. I better make sure she is still fine with this. She uses the iPad Mini 2 a lot for business so a bigger iPad would probably be better, but IDK. I got my heart set on that 12.9", lol.

What if they kept the form factor and went edge to edge? Would that get it close enough to leap frog the base iPad? Probably so, especially with a better panel and pencil support.

I probably will too but if the price is right I think it will sell well to a niche audience.

Well it can get old updating my kiddo's ipad mini 2. So slow. A new one (for him) is worth it for me alone since i maintain it..lol

The Mac mini is not really mini anymore. It was mini a decade ago, when every other computer was a full tower. Mini is now Intel NUC size, or half the size of the Mac mini is each axis. Unless they're putting a real GPU in it, it needs to be cut in size and weight. The reason it's so large in the first place is because they had to fit a CD drive and a rotating hard drive in it, both of which are dead now. There's no point making it that large if it comes with no GPU.

If true, I don’t expect a lot of retraction from those people who decreed with impressive confidence that the ipad mini was dead, get over it, move on.

Awesome to see rumors about a new mini, going by Kuo’s description though it doesn’t sound like it will be pencil capable though.

I hope he’s slightly wrong and we get an iPad Mini Pro with more RAM, pencil capabilities and the same or better screen than the 4. I would pay $649 for a Mini that was Pro.;)

That would be my dream machine but I really, really doubt it will happen. The mini seems to have a loyal niche following (kind of like the Mac mini!) that Apple is realizing they need to satisfy or someone else will; however, I don't think that niche wants/will pay for the extra performance/features/engineering of bringing those innovations to the mini. Plus to compete in the "Pro" tablet space you need a keyboard cover and the market/Apple have decided that the ~10" iPad (with bezels) is the smallest useable keyboard cover. Love to be wrong on this one!

Eh, big deal. Siri blows and touching the earpiece to activate siri is hardly a big deal, and wireless charging is just slower.

The true Airpod 2 with noise cancellation is the real upgrade worth waiting...

The biggest change to Airpods will be that they will be available in colors that match the XR. A man can dream anyway.

I hope they do update the iPad Mini for the folks who want it.

I think the mini which is all about portability would be a great choice for the “bezelless” redesign though. But it doesn’t sound like that’s what this is.

If it’s cheaper than the $329 iPad, I’d almost expect them to discontinue the iPod touch and just have this as their so called “entry device” for kids.

Think I might be past air power interest now as like my charger that stands up now at night..guess be abit much getting air power to wireless charge just my watch and future air pods

Choices are good. The iPad Mini is the perfect size for kids, portability, reading, and games.
The Mac Mini is also an excellent entry point into MacOS that is in desperate need of updates.

I'm very skeptical that there will be a new iPad Mini. What would they price it at? It seems doubtful they could sell it for less than the $329 iPad.

You're right, I have a hard time imagining Apple making a sub-$329 even-more-budget iPad... so, fingers crossed for an iPad mini Pro! With a FaceID/lack of home button redesign they could probably fit an 8.9" display into a body that's very nearly the same size as the current 7.9" mini. Add Pencil support and it'd be perfect for travel photographers.
