What’s the point of the iPad mini now that iPhones reach the 6.5” territory?
About $600 price difference. That's the point. Aside from the fact that even a 6.5 inch screen has still roughly only about 75% of the screen size of the 7.9 inch iPad mini.

Anyway, I have my doubts that we will actually see Mac updates, at least no significant ones. No because I'm just negative, but because the iPad Pro update is too big to share the stage time with a hypothetical reworked new Mac mini or "low-cost" Macbook.

It does not really make sense to annouce a new iPad mini alongside the new Pros. The mini isn't a "pro" device (let's ignore whether the iPad Pro is either). New minis make more sense alongside the spring budget iPad refresh.

I could be mistaken but I think that the last Mini (the 4) was announced alongside the very first iPad Pro, which was also the same time as the iPhone 6s.

There doesn't really need to be any kind of common theme connecting whatever products they decide to announce.

Stuff we already know because his latest report is, more or less, just a summary of what *he* already reported earlier.

This is the truth. People complain when he tells us things like this. However if Kuo didn't ever give any reports Macrumors would have much much less information than it does now.

we might see from Apple in late 2018 or early 2019.

Kuo does not know, however, if Apple will announce it during the media event or launch it sometime later in the year/early next year

According to Kuo, Apple could launch new AirPods and the AirPower either late in the fourth quarter of 2018 or early in the first quarter of 2019, but he doesn't yet know the company's specific plans.
The guy is a chancer. Throw enough **** at a wall and see what sticks. If something doesn't happen, there is no recourse, there is no accountability. If something happens, he's got inside knowledge.

If all these rumors are true, would this be the biggest Apple event of the decade?

iPad Mini, iPad Pro, MacBook, iMac, Mac Mini, AirPower, AirPods. Somewhere else I read there might be a Mac Pro preview.

Improved displays to the iPad Pro? How are they going to improve them any more than what we currently have? The display is already at 120hz and retina. Also a new Apple Pencil design, that will be interesting, I wonder if they have made it smaller?

What a lackluster event this Oct 30th is.. Almost, for the Mac and Mini, as if Apple had forgotten their Mac lineup then suddenly; “uh, oh ya’, umm, we got this silly stuff over here too”

Apple is fully committed to the iPhone, iPad, and Watch.. Dumb Mimojis too.. along with some dumb car..

They’re gonna dump the Mac, if not now, soon... Halloween Eve.!

Except for the fact that he gets most things right, he got the Apple Watch Series 4 right, the EKG and ceramic back he got right, he got the 3 iPhone’s right and he even got the fact that the iPhone XR would be delayed right, I’d say that’s a very good rate.

I'm very skeptical that there will be a new iPad Mini. What would they price it at? It seems doubtful they could sell it for less than the $329 iPad.

The 3 year old mini 4 already sells for $399.

It’s slow and junky but it’s the best iPad for kids.

Ahead of Apple's October 30th event, respected Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo shared some details about what we can expect to see Apple to unveil during the event as well as information on other products that we might see from Apple in late 2018 or early 2019.

Kuo has several interesting predictions, including an updated iPad mini and details on the launch of the AirPower.

iPad Pro

Kuo says that we can expect to see two new iPad Pro models that are equipped with USB-C, improved displays, and an Apple Pencil with a new design. Further details were not shared on what improvements to expect with the displays or what a redesigned Apple Pencil might look like.

All of these features have been previously rumored for Apple's upcoming iPad Pro models, which are also expected to feature Face ID, edge to edge screens, and no Home button.

iPad mini

Kuo says that Apple will launch a new version of the iPad mini, which has not seen an update in several years. Kuo says the device will feature an upgraded processor and a lower-cost panel.

Kuo does not know, however, if Apple will announce it during the media event or launch it sometime later in the year/early next year, but if an updated model is in the works, it makes sense for it to launch alongside the iPad Pro.

Mac models

At Apple's event, we can expect to see several Mac updates with upgraded processors and other internal improvements. Kuo says we can count on a new low-cost notebook and updates to the MacBook, iMac, and Mac mini.

AirPower and AirPods

According to Kuo, Apple could launch new AirPods and the AirPower either late in the fourth quarter of 2018 or early in the first quarter of 2019, but he doesn't yet know the company's specific plans.

It's possible that if Apple is planning on debuting the AirPower before the end of 2018 as promised, it could be mentioned at the October event, but Kuo doesn't say either way. The AirPower, first unveiled in September 2017, is meant to charge three devices at once, including an iPhone, the AirPods, and the Apple Watch, but it's been delayed for several months now.

As for the AirPods, we can expect to see an upgraded wireless charging case that will work with the AirPower along with a new wireless chip that enables "Hey Siri" functionality.

Apple's October event is set to take place on Tuesday, October 30 at 10:00 a.m. Eastern Time. This year's event is being held earlier in the day than normal because it is being hosted in New York City instead of Cupertino.

Apple will provide a live stream of the event on its event website and through the Events app on the Apple TV, but for those who can't watch, MacRumors will provide live coverage both here on MacRumors.com and through our MacRumorsLive Twitter account.

I only care about Apple events involving Mini (Mac Mini or iPad Mini) just because it will shut up whiners asking about these products ever single event.

And yet so many state that the iPad mini is dead as thought it’s fact. If a new one is released, they’ll have to move on to some other product-prediction to eat wrong.
i
iPad Mini, Mac Mini, both dead. C u next week.
Kuo just throws stuff at a wall knowing one of them will stick.

My guess is that the main purpose of this event is to showcase the new iPad Pros and new Apple Pencil. I think the Mac portion of this event is going to be relatively short and simple:

  • Mac Mini refresh/spec update and new pricing options
  • 12 in Macbook refresh/spec update, possible Touch ID, and new pricing options
  • MBA will be discontinued, and a low cost 12 in Macbook (one of the above pricing options) will take its place at $1,000. This will be a stripped down MacBook with 128GB storage and last year’s specs.
  • iMac refresh/spec updates and new pricing options. They might discoutinue the older non-retina iMac.
So, basically, it might just be a routine refresh/spec update for most of the Macs, with some new pricing options to try to stay somewhat viable at the entry level. We just haven’t seen any leaked new Mac products, and we are only one week away.......so, I am getting doubtful of something new. Kind of a bummer. I own an MBA, and it is such a terrific computer. I was hoping they would create something specifically for the entry level everyday market.

Definitely unexpected, but good for those who are looking for an updated mini. Pretty lackluster though considering it's the old style without many improvements.
Wow. Your response sounds like you actually believe this as it was coming from .
Kuo just throws stuff at a wall knowing one of them will stick.
Mac Mini, iPad Mini are dead.  doesn’t care about anything with Mini behind it. It has to be Pro. To justify the high cost.

Interesting 180 out of the blue... I guess the fact the Mini still exists is potentially a sign they're not done with the line? They could quite easily have killed it off completely if they wanted to, when they axed all but the 128GB option. Sounds like if this refresh does come to pass it will be basically an iPad mini 3 with A10/A11 chip - so like the iPad 5/6 it will have the non laminated display. I wonder where it could fit in price wise though; same starting price as the iPad 6 but with 64GB storage? I don't see how they could further undercut the price.
