Of course. USB-C is great... having one port that can handle USB, Thunderbolt, displays, and power!
However... this "going forward" started 5 years ago... and people still have devices and cables with USB-A plugs today. And they're frustrated about having to "carry a dongle" just to use a simple flash drive or whatever.
That's all I was saying.
Oh I'm sure there will never be a USB-A port on a Mac laptop ever again. I was just wondering where the USB-A port would rank among the desire to bring back other ports like HDMI and the SD card slot.

Part of why USB-A is so popular is that even if you have a USB-C machine, good luck adding more USB-C ports when you run out. It's so hard to find hubs. So the peripherals kinda still have to be USB-A.You forgot history it seems. That actually killed it off way too early and it was a major inconvenience - similar to how they killed the USB-A in 2016 yet it is rampantly still popular all these years later.
That’s called ThunderBolt 😃In that case, just give us some kind of an external PCI expansion so that we can get actually fast storage.
SD is capable of 1TB but I haven't seen a 1TB SD card available today that can record 6k BRAW footage. likely too expensive to make.Is SD capped in some way CFAST isn't? I remember hearing how DisplayPort was replacing HDMI because it supported higher resolutions, but then they released HDMI 2.0 and so on to bridge the gap. Same with USB and FireWire, and FireWire ended up dying.
Wake up? Mine are perpetually on, and there’s never any lag on either my 2016 or 2020 MBPs 🤔You can at least turn the touch bar into function keys to get back volume buttons, but you still have to wake up the touch bar first, and sometimes it lags. It's so dumb.
RS232 please😂What’s next, an optical drive, or floppy drive. Move on Apple, move on!
I have no clue what you're saying, so I'm going to assume you had a typo to mean "SD card on a MacBook Pro" instead of "SD Card on DSLR".Measuring DSLR Trend against the usage of SD Card on DSLR? Seriously?
Keep Spinning it.
Why is that though? Is there even a market for USB-C replicators? I’ve never needed more than the four that come with MBP, and most larger peripheral equipment has built in replicators 🤔Part of why USB-A is so popular is that even if you have a USB-C machine, good luck adding more USB-C ports when you run out. You can also do a mini horizontal swipe over the volume key itself and save yourself the slight delay.Idk if you realize you can press and hold then slide the sound but you can. A lot smoother than tapping and then adjusting. Still not same as a tactile button but in some ways I like it a bit better
Or with manufacturers incapable of getting USB-C to work with their designs 😬I kind of think the problem has more to do with the PC space much rather than Mac. If the PC industry refuse to force the Usage of USB-C over USB-A it might likely take another 5 years.
Congratulations!I’ve needed all these relics exactly 0 times in the past years. In the end I guess it raises costs to have extra holes that represent the past.
HDMI is the new VGA DSUB. It's the lowest common denominator, and it sucks balls compared to the alternatives. No one smart chooses it if they have another choice.DisplayPort was replacing HDMI because it supported higher resolutions, but then they released HDMI 2.0 and so on to bridge the gap
It's still just fine for use cases that are quite common on a laptop, like hooking it up to a projector.HDMI is the new VGA DSUB. It's the lowest common denominator, and it sucks balls compared to the alternatives. No one smart chooses it if they have another choice.
If you want to see what future HDMI versions will support, look at what DisplayPort supports now, and then keep in mind that pretty much every part of the HDMI spec is optional, so manufacturers are free to avoid whichever bits they want and still claim it's "HDMI 2.1".
It would be nice if the SD card was flush with the outside when it was inserted and it could be ejected with a software command, similar to how Mac floppies worked. Then it could be safely used as additional portable storage.
Sure. But a USB-C to HDMI cable works equally as well, and doesn't tie the rest of us who don't use HDMI to a ****** port. It's still just fine for use cases that are quite common on a laptop, like hooking it up to a projector.

Windows laptops use dongles as well. The difference is that most Windows laptop OEMs include one or few dongles with the purchase, while Apple does not. If Apple put back some of those ports, I expect higher starting price.Fundamentally, Apple recognizes that if every Macbook today has a dongle, something is very wrong with the design.
Magsafe, SD-Port, and HDMI plus Apple Silicon… for me a dream come true.
As for the Touch Bar, it was nice knowing you, but I never loved you.
