Android phones need it. iPhones manage things better and have note optimised OS. The chip is what matters.
Android is looking like iOS these days. There isn’t much difference in look and feel anymore. It’s about time Apple lowers their prices or step up in development. Compare midrange Android phones to the iPhone pros. They offer about the same hardware wise and high end Android phones wipe the floor with Apple “pro” models.

who cares really? It's just a phone. I'm using Xs and 11pro and see no reason to upgrade. Ok, getting 13mini soon, but just for the size upgrade.

In another six to eight years it will catch up to where good Android phones have been - now at 16GB plus on flagship Android devices - more than a MacBook has!!! Forced obsolescence is good for GREEDY TIM!
They run different operating systems so you can't even compare them. I'm not trying to defend Apple because they should be offering more RAM especially in Macs.

MacOS has better memory management and is overall more optimised than Windows. Linux can run on way less RAM than either MacOS or Windows.

Apple actually supports their products for far longer than Android. It's only in recent years that Google/Samsung etc have improved their support so your forced obsolescence comment makes no sense.

Everything that came before the iPhone 15 pro can’t handle Apple Intelligence. So that’s forced obsolescence to me. If the iPhone 16 barely have enough RAM to handle it and their A18 processors throttles under load. It’s a no go for me.

That's not what the original commenter meant. Most Android apps are written in Java, Kotlin, or Python and are run through a runtime engine. All of this ensures maximum compatibility across all supported Android hardware, but it adds a performance hit and significantly increases memory requirements. iOS apps are written in either Swift or Objective-C and are compiled to run natively on the hardware. There have been independent tests showing iOS apps need considerably less RAM than Android apps, sometimes up to 70% less, to perform the exact same functionality. So unlike the "8GB on Apple Silicon is the same as 16GB on Windows!" BS Apple was trying to spin last year there really is truth to the idea that 8GB on iOS goes as far as 12-16GB on Android because of the differences in how the two OS's run apps and other memory management differences.

Ah, the fortnight before a new release and all the soothsayers check their chicken gizzards for some morsel to stop you upgrading this year when a promise of better is coming... wait wait. :)

Gurman next with a crystal ball gaze?

Just give me MORE MORE MORE Ram!

I need all my life trackers, Pokemon Go, etc. to stop being closed in the background. Like the phone is no longer just the foreground app. Let me have N apps all running and doing things.

Apple just admitted that it’s too easy to future proof phones. These features that Kuo is describing should have been put in iPhone 13 Pro. Again running out of ideas and coming up with new ideas is difficult to tell the public and everyday buyer to wait.

Well, if we compare apples to samsungs 😉, the Galaxy S24 line start with 8GB of RAM for S24 and then go with 12GB for both S24+ and Ultra.
But all of their mentioned devices are showing AI features in that SoC and RAM. Even 16 GB RAM was available many years back in Android world at fraction of iPhone’s price. Let Apple demonstrates its AI power that it can do everything in 8 GB RAM. RAM is not a big deal now a days, it is Apple’s stingy policy to milk the gullible buyers by tiering the RAM as super luxury thing, which their customers failed to realize !

Android NEEDS 12gb of RAM (and more) otherwise it runs like absolute dog s**t
More RAM also requires far better memory management, otherwise, memory heap can go higher and higher eventually, can crash. Now a days, lots of background processes need to be run with mobiles connected to multilple devices, services, apps. People need to keep switching between apps and services. iPhone app switch earlier was bit nasty with their fake rendering last used app state then refresh it, it was due to low local memory.

It needs that 16GB since Android is a unoptimized, piggy 💩 show that it is.

Don’t know why people are complaining about RAM?

Do you really experience a „bottleneck“ with RAM in phones?

lol

LOL indeed. I've never experienced a slow-down on my iPhones waiting for some task to finish before I can do something else with my phone. Or any kind of slowdown.

Apparently there are a lot of people who believe Apple systems and design engineers are stupid. And are just winging it when creating new iPhone system architectures, skimping on memory, with the result of Apple's 1 Billion active customers waiting for their phones to give back control for some task to complete.

Not a formula for success.

Apparently the 600,000 people who purchase an iPhone everyday of the year are just dumb and willing to tolerate that in the eyes of those believing Apple's RAM decisions are bad.

Fixed it for you! :)

600,000 iPhones manufactured and sold every day of the year (on the average) suggests Apple is giving people sheep what they want...great phones!

Apple is giving sheep what they want?

Right... all of Apple's 1 Billion active customers are sheep. What a coup in Apple being one of the most successful tech companies on the planet.

Seriously?

If iPhone plus didn’t sell well, why is Apple making iPhone “slim?” Makes no sense.
It will be entirely different product. It will bigger than reg size iPhone yes but it will sleek and premium without camera bump. Like sports car or phones. Less of a tool than Pro lineup but more of a premium design piece. That’s my prediction. Remember that many people buy Pros not for the camera system but for premium look and feel. Many of those people don’t like the weight and the bump.

I'd be annoyed if they segmented RAM to the max. It's not like they're trying to shove a big new lens in there and needed time to move it down, if even that excuse making is true for the tetraprism. RAM is literally just moving between same sized modules, and with very little appreciable difference in power use just moving from 8GB to 12GB within the same generation. It's not like they're struggling to shove RAM in. So the only reason for the difference would be the average selling price. I'd rather it was just a choice of size.

Regarding the GB. Who cares what is the number on the spec sheet if a device perform well? I couldn't care less if the number is 8 or 32. As long as my phone runs smoothly. Half of that smoothness is optimisation anyway. In Windows and Android world I understand you need 128 GB of ram just for phone doesn’t lag because of poorly optimised ecosystem.
