I would be ok with both a bigger screen or a smaller notch. The fact that it's not possible to see the battery percentage from the X onwards is a small thing that has always bugged me.

And please, bring the friggin' USB-C to the party.

I always bought a new iPhone every year. However, I stopped with the iPhone 7 Plus (which I still use). The ONLY thing that will convince me to part with new money will be the implementation of a proper dual-SIM model (ie. the Chinese version) worldwide. eSIM is useless for me as both my carriers in Australia and Italy (both their national carriers, i.e. Telstra and TIM) still do not support eSIM and both have recently stated they have no intention of doing so! Apple, are you listening? Why is it so difficult to release the standard dual-SIM version worldwide as an option if it already exists?

Let’s hope smaller than 5.8 is a rumor.

I can’t imagine going down in screen size.

I can’t imagine it going up in screen size but down to an XR version.

I can’t imagine a bigger plus size when plus is already too big, it’d be a silly phablet.

Does anyone care about next years iPhones? We’re still 3 months away from this years yet!

I do, I am not looking forward to 2019’s iPhone line up unless Apple releases a SIM Free version with a Qualcomm Modem. The intel modems (for me) crash to often. I don’t think the Intel modems handle transitioning from WiFi calling to cellular calling well.

5.4" would take this back down to iPhone 7 size no?
It would be the size as the current Iphone X since the Actual Screen Area on that phone is 5.4"

Sounds like by 2020-21, Apple would have figure out how to put all their FaceID under the screen or it will take a very little room

I am a travel photographer and the iPhone is quickly becoming my go to main travel camera. So the new 3 lens camera really interests me the most. That & usb-c since i use an ipad pro for all my photo & video editing now too. Looking forward to September.

The issue is that 5G will inevitably suffer the same fate as 4G.

When 4G was first around it was brilliant. Super fast for what people needed, and an unsaturated network. Fast forward a few years, now pretty much everyone is using 4G networks, and data usage has increased along with speed, it's gone back to being unusable in most large cities.

Same will inevitably happen with 5G. When every phone operates from it, and people start streaming Netflix, etc, in 4K rather than 720/1080, it'll saturate and slow down again.

For the first time, I’m hoping the lackluster upgrade rumors are true this year so that I don’t feel compelled to buy it and can instead pick up a used XS Max at a nice discount.

I really do. It seems like next year's iPhones will include more interesting features that we will get this year, but everything is still only rumoured so I don't expect anything.

Plus, it's said that they will have a design refresh, so I'm curious about how much they can change the design.

5G must be released this year, if not people will hold back because by 2020 I am sure 5G antennas will be available and people wont upgrade twice just for 5G modem

With the same screen aspect ratio as the XS/XR/Max, a 5.4" screen would measure about 2.26" x 4.90" or about 57.4 x 124.5 mm.

Assuming a screen bezel/frame size of about 8.5 mm, that means the phone dimensions would be about 66 x 133 mm.

iPhone 5: 58.6 x 123.8 mm
iPhone 6: 67.0 x 138.1 mm
iPhone XS: 70.9 x 143.6 mm
iPhone 5.4: ~66 x 133 mm

IOW, this hypothetical iPhone 5.4" wouldn't be anywhere near the iPhone 5/SE size. Not even close. It would be quite close to the iPhone 6/7/8 size though.

I would be shocked if 5G iPhones were released this year. I am disappointed though that MCK is predicting no 5G for the XR replacement in 2020. That's a big downer.

The amount of "Available DRAM" in upcoming iPhones is far more important than which type of cellular modem they include !

iOS Ram Management isn't what it used to be back in 2016 & prior !

Things have gone south recently, BIG time !

I'm running the latest iOS 12 version on my iPhone SE and I don't notice this is at all. Everything feels rock solid to me

You know, posting this drivel over and over doesn't make it true. Just like you posting that the A12 has a scheduler issue (while quoting Anandtech for the Exynos 9810) doesn't make that true either.
