And it's name is simply: MacBook.
Well...no, not really.

"MacBook" alone would from my point of view connect to an uncomplex, straightforward, minimalistic and timeless design - just the opposite of what the multi-colour option means for me.

I think something which really expresses what a colorful MacBook is would fit in much better here...like...maybe... "MacBook Kitsch" ;)
Or maybe some editions associating to what the respective color means in the real world - what about "MacBook Barbie" for the pink one, and "MacBook Ken" for the baby-blue one? Or "MacBook (Finding) Nemo" for the orange one? "MacBook Pikachu" for the yellow specimen?
That would at least build up some suitable connection to those colors as they already are on the 24" iMac...

Sounds awesome but I’m happy enough with my M1 Air that I don’t regret not waiting for a new design.

Nice that Apple is paying attention to Mac hardware again.

Isn't this guy Kuo the one that Apple told to cool his jets on rumor-mongering?

If so, can we trust him?

And if yes to that, will Apple send the black helicopter troops to our houses in the middle of the night?

Always funny when people argue semantics around something that's all about branding. Air sells.
There was a day when people thought it preposterous to buy water. But now we buy it by the caseload. And we get all uppity if we can't bring a bottle whenever we leave the house!

- M2 chip
- Mini LED display
- New and slim design
- Many color options
- Magsafe charger
- $999

This will be revolutionary.

This makes sense - the air for Macbook tries to fill the same niche as the air for iPads. A step up from the basic model.
Makes me think they can return the Macbook at some discounted price. Seems a bit less confusing.

The idea behind of the first Macbook Air was a lighter and thinner notebook in exchange of performance an conectivity. Today, Apple has enough tecnology to make a powerful machine without make it too thick or too heavy. So, the actual Macbook Air is the Macbook already.

The iPad Air don't deserve it's name either. It's not just a lighter iPad, it's a more powerful and capable one. It deserves the name "iPad". The old one should be called iPad SE, like the iPhone SE which maintains the old form factor.

The Apple lineup got confused these days and they have to fix it.

will these machines ever get a 100Hz+ display? for how much they cost, it really should be included at this point. They've had them in the iPad since 2017 so there's not really an excuse IMO.

My friends and I were arguing about refresh rates and a friend of mine who works in IT and is a giant nerd set up 60hz, 120hz, 144hz, and 240hz monitors and several sizes and refresh rates of TVs, all of them connected to devices that output different framerates (not necessarily the framerate of the monitor). He used five of us as test subjects and he spent hours quizzing us about which is better/faster/etc. and having us write down our rankings as he would unplug and reconfigure different monitors and devices and launching different games and benchmarking applications presumably to try to trip us up and say that a higher framerate was worse. By the end of this all of us thought the monitor that turned out to be 240hz monitor was worse than the 60hz monitor but the 120hz monitor was better than the 144hz, we all ranked the 60hz monitor running video at 30hz highly. I guess what I'm trying to say is that nobody knows which refresh rate is better so it would be good if Apple gave us a choice so we can decide for ourselves

Apple plans to launch a new MacBook Air with a mini-LED display and several color options around mid 2022, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said today in a research note obtained by MacRumors. These details line up with previous rumors about the new MacBook Air from sources like Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and YouTube tech personality Jon Prosser.

Kuo said the new MacBook Air will feature an "all-new design" with a similar form factor as the next MacBook Pro models, which are also expected to feature a mini-LED display and flatter top and bottom edges. Previous rumors have suggested the new MacBook Air will also feature a faster Apple silicon chip and a MagSafe-branded magnetic power cable.

Kuo said it is not yet certain whether the existing M1 MacBook Air will be discontinued after the mini-LED model enters mass production, and this could have an effect on pricing. If the M1 MacBook Air is discontinued, Kuo said the mini-LED model will probably start at the same $999 price. If the M1 MacBook Air does remain available for purchase alongside the mini-LED model, Kuo believes it could receive a price cut.

Chinese manufacturer BOE will supply the mini-LED displays for the new MacBook Air, whereas LG, Sharp, and Foxconn subsidiary GIS will supply mini-LED displays for the upcoming MacBook Pro models, according to Kuo.

Apple last updated the MacBook Air with the M1 chip in November 2020.

I expect the new MBA will be similar in performance as the current MBA M1 and the new MBP M1+ (or M2) is much better so that the performance differential between Air and Pro is reestablished.

My girlfriend has an M1 MacBook Air, she loves it... As the actual design is from 2018 and it is already showing its age, I will buy her the new version as soon as it comes out

Totally agree - it’s what I thought when I first looked at the image of the stack of MBA’s in the article. These pastel colors are just too light, too feminine - maybe that’s not exactly the right word for it. They look too child-like. It’s not that I want the old dark grays, silver or black colors that we’ve lived with for the past 20 years, but I’d love to see a rich orange or even the dark greens and blues of the past iPhones, as options.
Maybe you're looking for the word "effeminate" rather than "feminine"?

I have given up on MacBook family, I would rather get a $700 Chromebook that has all the technology I could ask for in a laptop computer and half the price of a MacBook, including access to Linux. I would rather spend $3000 on a Mac Pro mini where I could do some upgrading of the system and have a longer life of the system.
I'd be with you except that I want to see what Logic is all about. And a few other things too.

I also heard that anything you type from a Mac into a Mac Rumors post automatically gets a moderation "pass" for off-topicness and also gains a golden glow and extra special wisdom for the ages. But not sure about that last one because if it were true, then I'd wonder why nobody here uses Mac to participate in these comments! D'oh! 😲 😉

Bezels that match the color of device would be cool--a return to the old non-retina MBA styling.
