Probably a 13" or 14" model.

Despite his sources in the supply chain and incredible predictive powers, he can't know if Apple marketing will randomly call it a "Pro" or not.

We know the 16" model will launch in November based on the Apple Store availability of 3-4 weeks of the 15" model.

A BTO 15" is showing for me as shipping in 1-3 business days. How is that availability of 3-4 weeks?

"A delayed game is eventually good, but a rushed game is forever bad,"

-Shigeru Miyamoto

This is actually pretty frustrating if true. I’ve been holding off on buying a 13” Pro for a while waiting for the update with new processors, scissor keyboard, and WiFi 6. It’s disappointing we may have to wait until June ..

I was in your position and waiting a year and a half on macbooks releases, when it was finally released it was the butterfly 1-type port, not really faster 2016 macbook.

I sense disappointment. Should we blame it on Apple for disappointing us? They didn't live up to the rumors.

Not sure why this is so hard for extremely near term products. If this thing is coming out in 2019, manufacturing will be cranking them out by the tens of thousands now. Not hard for industry people in Asia to know what's actually being built in volume. Lots and lots of people have to know this to do their jobs.

The hard part is predicting when something that's NOT being built will actually start volume (not pilot) production.

Ming LMAO “unclear if 16” model delayed?
This was a BS report to begin with. Apple would most likely not release a newer sized laptop on the last year a product cycle was to end.
announced maybe (2012 MBP announced in late 2011) it did NOT ship for a few months later and replaced the existing lineup.

Please make "Pro", Pro again.

Hard to know if they've learned their lesson around this. The new Mac Pro is definitely geared to pros, along with a price tag out of reach for a lot of "one-man show" pros. More for big corporates. But then we have AirPods Pro which seem to be high-end earbuds, but designed for professionals? I doubt it, unless they are thinking suit-and-tie type people. The white may not go over well with them, though.

Well, that went left. We went from a possible date of October 29th to late 2020. Lol. Damn near a year later. That’s iPhone 12 release quarter.
Based on this article, nothing has changed. Kuo already said there would be scissor-keyboard laptops in mid-2020. Most thought that meant the 13/15, or maybe a 14 that would replace the 13. If you were expecting a 16” this year, this article shouldn’t change your opinion.

In favor of the release in 2019 is Kuo (and others’) existing rumors making that claim. Also, fwiw Digitimes says it’s in production at Quanta. But I’d give the most weight to the 16” icon and folder name making their appearance in Catalina. That’s not something Apple typically does nine months in advance.

re: a 16” model needing an event to launch it, to me it doesn’t. I mean, it’s great that Apple’s offering a 16” screen with a (rumored) new keyboard but that’s a one or two sentence announcement. “We’re thrilled to announce our best MBP ever, the 16” MBP with a new and improved keyboard. We think you’re going to love it.” What else is there to say, really?

If I had to guess, I’d say the 16” will launch alongside the new Mac Pro and XDR display. But we know enough about these products that they don’t require another event, imo.

An iMac Pro with 4TB ships in 4-6 business days. I don't think Apple's supply chain for the MacBook is so bad it takes weeks to ship with a similar 4TB drive.

The MBP uses two chips soldered to the logic board for the SSD. While the iMac Pro uses two M.2-like blades with 4 chips each (2 on each side of the blade). To hit 4TB, the density is easily pushing 4x more in the MBP. They simply aren't comparable parts.

Yeah, that detail is bothering me too in light of this article. I was wrong about the timing with 10.5.1, but those resources shouldn't have been anywhere near the builds for developers if it was this far out. Unless there was an actual delay.

If there was a delay, that would suck, but wouldn't be completely unheard of. This sort of refresh should be including either Navi or Ice Lake. But either one means Apple would be trying to push out a product while dependent on a supplier's shipping dates for components. Not a fun place to be in, IMO.

Unless the goal here is really just to use the existing Coffee Lake Refresh & Vega parts, but put it in a new shell... which would be weird.

I'm probably silly for having hope, but please let users at least have the ability to upgrade to a good GPU. It's always the weakest aspects of the MBP. Powerful CPU, weak GPU.

A 16” MBP needs a 12.9” iPad Pro in sidecar mode.
Or it needs to be a bit thicker, with a touch screen that flips over that is also compatible with the Apple Pencil. Now that I would classify as a pro machine.

The Mac Pro 15" uses 4 NAND chips. Two on each side of the motherboard.

But yes, 4 NAND chips versus 8 NAND would be a big difference in cost and capacity constraints. The latest generation of NAND chips though tend to stack NAND dies 3D so it is possible to pack what used to be in 8 packages into 4 packages if use different package densities. It tends to cost much more.

The two port MBP 13" 2019 model only have two NAND chips. ( The touchbar one manages to squeeze in 4 but lower density than the 15" model. )

It is just pathetic how little care Apple is giving to the entire computer product line.
Just simply pathetic. The upgrade cycles have become joke.
The entire Macbook line is a disaster
The iMacs look outdated and old.
Mac minis, same case than 4 years ago, same heating issues and overpriced.

In the meantime, Tim Cook, spend billions in content that no one cares, an Apple credit card?, emojis updates and wearables that are the one thing we can say Apple can be proud of.

So we only have to wait another 9 months for confirmation on this rumor? Great!

Kinda pointless to publish rumors that far out in advance.

Not only that, MacRumors posted 3 articles about the MacBook 16 just this week...I think they need to check better their sources...

that's a shame. I sold my 2018 MBP two months ago and waited for the one with the new keyboard. In the meantime I only use the iPad Pro.
But if it's going to be mid 2020, I probably will switch to a Thinkpad. The iPad Pro is nice, but I can't replace the Macbook with that.

I feel your pain. I was last using a black 2008 macbook which eventually died on me. Now i'm simply on an awful cheap ass dell that got issued to me for work. Desperate to get an upgraded macbook pro but there is no way I could justify investing all that money in the current versions, with those terrible keyboards. Is it ever going to happen?

I won't flat out disagree with your argument but this is what happens when the company is run by a boss that isn't very interested in product innovation and have the tendency to release a new product with an absurd price tag.

I think it is time to consign myself to keeping my late 2013 for a couple more years. I will do some maintenance via ifixit. It will be as good as new.

Upgrading right now is impossible! The 2019 keyboard is dreadful when i tried one out. Even if the design is reliable now, the NVH is unacceptable! (Noise, vibration, harshness)

Amazing how we went from the 16-incher being released this week to now being delayed/released in the 2nd Quarter of 2020? I guess this is a rumor site for a reason.
At this point, Apple may not even be considering making a 16-inch for all we know.

I'm going to bet that if there was a delay it was over the scissor mechanism not being ready.
