I am still a bit taken aback by posts from some.
Full disclosure: I do not fly more than a few times a year, it's for pleasure, my laptop is not essiential, I am not an explosives expert...
Anybody still reading??? Lol
I AM almost an expert (I don't solder) in laptop repair (really if you have to solder get a new one, unless it's an expensive one). I don't know if anyone on here watched enough macgyver to know what plastic explosives look like, or done enough reading to know what the inside of a lithium ion battery looks like, but it would be very resonable to assume an ******* with plastic explosives could reshape a battery, place it in where a battery cell should be, hook it up with the wires we already expect to see on an X-ray, and then hit "command e" and goodbye 300-900 people.
Also, I would assume that some big wig in corporate isn't trying to be funny by putting this ban in place. I WOULD assume that a desk jockey listening in on phone conversations at the NSA heard a conversation with a mention of this, or somebody being interrogated by the CIA told them this, or a clever spy overheard a conversation and that lead to reasonable suspicion that somebody out there wants to do something terrible and this is how they plan to do it.
So 1: This ban will suck for business people down to leasure travel people
2: We live in a world full of terrible people who want to kill other people
3: there is a solution!!
Make every person hook their laptop up to a device that makes it run a battery test specified by the factory. If the bomber can't wire **** besides bombs, the laptop won't POST and it's time to confiscate it. If he he pretty good at computers and bombs? The battery will not last long at all due to 1 or more cells being explosives.
Perfect solotuon? No....wanna use your laptop? Better than nothing.
Don't get me started about testing note 7s....
