4 more years of this idiocracy. This administration is a complete joke. Can't believe Americans elected Trump. Sad.
But many believe Hilary is nowhere better than trump either.
No laptops, then no tablet, no phones, no watches, no shoes, etc...
Welcome to Naked Airlines... We flight light
Well, drugs can be carried within someone's body. So does bombs. What's next? Banning airlines altogether?
Try using a paperback book. They are still manufactured in large numbers and available in many outlets.

And they consume zero battery. But, they are bulky and heavy.

Interesting school of thought here..

Americans have the right to bear arms and defend themselves ( 2nd Amendment )

So, if guns were banned ..

Oh wait, you're from Kommifornia.. Facepalm!

.. drops mic ..
Are you saying that just because Americans have the right to bear arms, they don't want it? And are you saying that I'm a Democrat or a communist just because I live in California? Why, I have reason to believe you're high right now, Mr. South Park ;)

P.S. I've got guns, lots of guns.

Anyone who still thinks that at this point is either woefully uninformed, willfully ignorant, or both.
I'm just replying to this because I noticed you've got Oski in your avatar.

I think we got a pretty crappy lineup in that election. Trump was a dangerous choice for various reasons, but there was justified dissatisfaction with Clinton and her party. It was an extremely uncertain candidate vs one who certainly needed to be taught a lesson. I'm unhappy with Trump but do admire the fact that so many silent Trump voters, having taken verbal abuse for months, came out and retaliated quietly, in contrast with the riots that erupted afterwards.

No, they also banned tablets in the current blacklist.
Ah, ok. But will they allow me to take a Mac Pro as a carryon? I've actually done it before.

I am still a bit taken aback by posts from some.

Full disclosure: I do not fly more than a few times a year, it's for pleasure, my laptop is not essiential, I am not an explosives expert...

Anybody still reading??? Lol

I AM almost an expert (I don't solder) in laptop repair (really if you have to solder get a new one, unless it's an expensive one). I don't know if anyone on here watched enough macgyver to know what plastic explosives look like, or done enough reading to know what the inside of a lithium ion battery looks like, but it would be very resonable to assume an ******* with plastic explosives could reshape a battery, place it in where a battery cell should be, hook it up with the wires we already expect to see on an X-ray, and then hit "command e" and goodbye 300-900 people.

Also, I would assume that some big wig in corporate isn't trying to be funny by putting this ban in place. I WOULD assume that a desk jockey listening in on phone conversations at the NSA heard a conversation with a mention of this, or somebody being interrogated by the CIA told them this, or a clever spy overheard a conversation and that lead to reasonable suspicion that somebody out there wants to do something terrible and this is how they plan to do it.

So 1: This ban will suck for business people down to leasure travel people

2: We live in a world full of terrible people who want to kill other people

3: there is a solution!!

Make every person hook their laptop up to a device that makes it run a battery test specified by the factory. If the bomber can't wire **** besides bombs, the laptop won't POST and it's time to confiscate it. If he he pretty good at computers and bombs? The battery will not last long at all due to 1 or more cells being explosives.

Perfect solotuon? No....wanna use your laptop? Better than nothing.

Don't get me started about testing note 7s....

Not the inconvenience, the terror. And also the massive resources the world powers have to spend on them.

Terrorist goals generally don't think about the budgetary implications of their actions. They don't have a "billions spent on thwarting us" sign somewhere. In general, the goal of a terrorist organization is to demonstrate that a government is incapable of stopping them while reaping large amounts of publicity, with the end goal being some kind of policy change.

And as a result, politicians start doing stupid things like trying to ban Muslims from entering the U.S., which helps terrorists raise more anti-American hell.

Most of what you think you know about why people go "terrorist" is wrong. Various factions have been hating on the US for various reasons that have nothing to do with Trump; you must have forgotten the older twin tower attacks and, well, Israel.

Anti-US feeling has been a political tool in the Middle East since the founding of Israel. We are a convenient scapegoat for all kinds of ills that affect the Middle East. A ban on Muslims is really irrelevant, although the left in the US has seized on that particular thing as some kind of bizarre symbol of futility.

The fact is, on this subject the Left is a lot like NYC Democrats pre-Guiliani. "There's nothing you can do to stop the decline of NYC," they said. Well actually, there is a lot you can do and Giuliana did it. A priori none of the actions makes any sense as a holistic way of solving the problem, but who really gives a cr*p about a holistic solution. Analysis paralysis is guaranteed to not work, and ad-hoc fixes did work for NYC.

Loving the "deploy stricter gun control" posts ! I'm proud to be a citizen of a PRO gun country!..

Of course lets all ban guns so the criminals ( who get'em anyway ) have open access to a target rich environment. And, when they come in with their *assaults weapons* ( another LOL @ the term ) people just scream like lil bit*ches and wait for the slow ass cops to show up way AFTER the massacre!!

Lets all give up the ability to defend ourselves, and our families, and take it like a man either from the government or the terrorists!
Wow, just wow :D
So show some examples of events where attackers with assault rifles have been taken down by bystanders that happened to have a handgun on them.
What's that? Never happened because they also ran like little bitches? Ah.

Might as well ban flights from airports you cannot trust.

On a postitive, planes might end up the only place where human beings may end up interacting with each other due to no electronic devices.

Being overcautious is better than not being cautious enough, like most European countries have been. Look at what has happened in France. All it takes are a few maniacs to kill a large number of people. I don't think the people who have died in France would share your sentiment. Obviously, the French were not careful enough.

I honestly don't think that will make the much difference, except from pissing off decent travelers. Ill minded people could figure other ways to carry out their acts.

Last time I checked you can't watch video or play games on books! Unless that have changed quite recently and I am not aware.

Well....

flip books take care of videos :p and I'm sure colouring in books can be considered a game :)

Airlines have mostly removed entertainment screens to make room for more seats. Without our devices, we'll be forced to engage with one another. yuck!

I genuinely don't understand what this would achieve? Do people forget Pan Am 103. That had a bomb placed inside of a Toshiba Radio, placed in the hold and still brought the aircraft down. An explosive device about the size of a coke can brought that Russian airliner down over Egypt the other year.

I don't really think it matters if the explosive device is in the hold or in the cabin, it will still do some serious damage. Also if a fire starts in the hold due to a faulty device battery and surrounded by peoples clothing in a suitcase it might be uncontrollable and cause the aircraft to crash.

My colleague had a laptop his laptop checked for the first time this year.
The laptop arrived with a cracked screen.

Luckily this was on the way back from a business trip. We had to get the screen replaced.
But if it happened on the way there, it would have caused serious problems.

The way baggages are handled many times, and with the Laptop Ban,events like this will become more and more common. I wonder how this will affect business travelers.

The terrorists have won
They have won already starting that tragedy in 9/11, 2001.
The ultimate goal as a terrorist is to incite fear and anxiety across lots of people. When people demand safety, demand being protected, feel depressed because of terrorist attack, they have lost in the war against terrorism. Btw this is what my dad told me.

Mind you, airliners, at least the 787, has li-on batteries. Which caused fires in early testing and delayed the plane's debut.
It had LiIon batteries. They reverted to NiMH when the LiIon where causing trouble!
