With WatchOS switching the side button to bring up control center, I wonder if the new action button will do something similar for iOS control center. The iPhone X-style swipe down from the top right corner still feels clunky and out of reach most of the time, and all the mentioned functions for the action button can be found in control center today. This feels like a good place to do a dynamic island-style UI change too, focused on control center. Maybe a double press or long press? Back when they were still talking about this and the volume buttons as haptic, there were interesting possibilities for swipe gestures too, like the AirPods Pro 2 volume controls. Maybe that could still happen with a real button?

As long as the Action button can be used to launch a Shortcut, you can use Shortcuts to make a menu which slides down and gives you options to do things.

Does that 10% weight reduction refer to the weight of the chassis or the entire phone?
Google says titanium is 40% of the weight of stainless steel, but I suppose the titanium in the 15 pros may not be pure titanium and could be some sort of alloy which may not save as much weight. So, I was figuring that a ~50-60% lighter weight from the frame could make the entire phone’s weight 10% lighter since presumably the frame, glass and battery are the heaviest components of the phone. Again, as others have speculated, the battery size/weight will most likely increase and other internal components might also increase in weight to offset anything the titanium yields. Anything lighter would be a win in my book, but I‘m skeptical that we’d be getting pro phones that weigh roughly what the 11 pros weighed (188 and 226 grams, respectively).

The same things that the very large majority of people do. I don’t consider any of my usage particularly unique or unusual.

Browsing the web, reading (articles and ebooks), watching videos, taking photos/videos, social media, listening to music/podcasts. The majority of my usage is indoor too, so it’s not even like it’s the brighter display on the 14 Pro Max that’s draining my battery more. AOD is off too.
I know some have had a bad experience. I am also sorta normal user like you. On worse days 7 AM to 8 ish PM I end with from 67 to 75 percent battery on my 14 ProMax. I probably read more of my book on ipad pro however and podcasts more there also So perhaps that usage would get me to where you end I do not know. Just my own experience

I have the iPhone 14 Pro. The claim that it has a 23hr battery is NOT accurate. I do nothing but read webpages, check email/facebook, and play Suduko on my phone and there are MANY days in which I have to charge my phone in the early evening. And my battery health — after less than a year — is already at 89%. Looking forward to a more reliable battery in the iPhone 15 Pro. #fingerscrossed
I am on 14 ProMax health is 96 percent just at end of summer (it was 100 percent through June but seemed to drop with a couple updates a bit). However I am at 67-75 percent battery left after 12 hours aprox use (7Am to 8 PMish. Seems there are some having problems like you and others with 14 ProMax’s that are ok?

Also, we’ve reached a point where there isn’t much more they could do with the phones until technology allows for another major step forward. What do some of you guys expect to see?
That's very fair, but at the same time you can't blame me for not wanting to spend somewhere between $1500 and $2000 for moving along this plateau. Yeah, I'm in Europe and unfortunately need the 512 version.

The Periscope camera is coming on the iPhone 15 Pro Max. I think thats a big deal. You should upgrade!
Not sure that 6 x over 3X much improvement. I find the rumors of the level of improvement with 16 ProMax sound more like what I am interested in. The rest of features (USB-c— more cables needed, loss of my mute button, titanium and meh colors) just do not grab me. So I am 90% certain of not upgrading. Depends what I learn about the periscope that sounds more interesting than the rumors. I want to see close comparisons of 3X and 6x on the 14 Pro line vs 15 Pro line before I get excited not hype out of Cook and co’s mouths LOL

What do you have right now?

Another big update going from an iPhone 11 is getting rid of the crappy Intel modem! It’s pretty bad compared to the Qualcomm modems. I’m looking forward to getting a consistent signal on my phone.
My signal on my XR hasn’t been terrible, but not the best. Is it that much of an improvement going to Qualcomm?

I used to own an iPhone X (256 GB). The awful Intel modem was the main reason why I upgraded to an iPhone 12 in 2020.

6x won't do that much compared to 3x. Same for 2x and 3x. A bit of zoom is useful for framing but I wouldn't expect great image quality at zoom extreme - this is a phone, not a real camera with a 10k lens.

And if the periscope is not instant, it's going to be annoying.

Hi! Will the iPhone 15 Pro Max have 4,422 mAh or 4,852 mAh?🤔

this is the second time apply trying to put U2 into my phone without consent.

but perhaps this time i'd get to appreciate it

Yep pretty much what I am feeling, and the rest of the features are at best to me meh and a so called “S” Upgrade

On the other hand, rumors (and yeah they are rumors) is that the 16 ProMax ((ultra??) might have some significan upgrades giving it almost 300mm telephoto equivalency. That may be bull and hype but if true then 16 ProMax will be for me. Otherwise love my 14 ProMax a lot.

I didn’t say it was poor, I said it was my biggest complaint. Charts mean nothing for my real world experience. My 14 Pro Max often doesn’t last me through the day. My 13 Pro had a smaller physical battery but had longer battery life than my 14 Pro Max does.
You are intense phone user. I am on my 14 pro all day (by my estimation) and I end the day with 40-50% left.

I dont understand the benefit of titanium. What are people doing where they need their phone to be more resistant to torsion or whatever the right name of the force is on the phone. The aluminum is holding up fine. Titanium alloys are great but…not clear the benefit other than the initial wow.

Cool. Now that I know everything I’ll wait for the pixel 8 pro event and then decide who gets my upgrade bucks this year. These upgrades are just not exciting me.

It will be interesting to see what they do, from the rumors I’ve read it sounds like it’s not gonna be much of an upgrade. Hoping it is though as I may finally replace my Samsung with one if it’s good enough. I carry 2 phones on me daily, and most of the time when I take pictures I use my Samsung, if I shoot video I use the iPhone. From what we know I expect the Pixel to further its lead on the iPhone when the new ones come out.

How much do you go outside? Do you have a bright house, with many windows? I have a theory that the problem that damns the 14P is the 2000 nit max brightness, but only for people who spend a decent amount of time in the sun to constantly activate it.
