It’s new and exciting if your iPhone is 4 or 5 years old
Totally. Most people don’t upgrade each year.

A new iPhone will push people to upgrade for a multitude of reasons.

For someone interested in just getting the regular phone, dynamic island might pique their interest as it’s the first huge change to the regular phone since 2020.

A ‘new’ chip (ie last years pro chip) might seal the deal.

Ditto for pro max users. The new telephoto lens might make an upgrade a must have. Plus your phone is now lighter. Phew, as those pro max phones were getting heavy.

And it’ll go all the way to maybe going to Apple.com or a reseller to get the 14 or 13 refurb, as new iPhones have pushed the prices even lower.

They might even jump because they’re excited over usb-c. Ok probably not!

SIM seems still present in EU. I'm hoping the same for 16 Pro next year.
I would be surprised if Apple doesn’t remove it with the 16 lineup. They probably already notified any carriers in Europe that still don’t offer eSIM that they only have one more year.

Yep pretty much what I am feeling, and the rest of the features are at best to me meh and a so called “S” Upgrade

On the other hand, rumors (and yeah they are rumors) is that the 16 ProMax ((ultra??) might have some significan upgrades giving it almost 300mm telephoto equivalency. That may be bull and hype but if true then 16 ProMax will be for me. Otherwise love my 14 ProMax a lot.
I don't know, iPhone 16 rumours? They haven't launched the 15. I don't believe anything but trust the most likely outcome - a tame, iterative upgrade touted as "the best ever". Which is technically true unless they really screw the pooch. What they don't say is "the worst ever value proposition or reason to upgrade".

If you have the 14 Pro Max, I have literally no idea why you'd want to upgrade. I mean, I have the 11 Pro and I'm very much doubting the need.

The frame will be most likely from Ti grade 5 (Alloy Ti6Al4V). It is even slightly lighter than pure titanium.

I think a noticeable redesign would trigger more sales, including sales from people who thought they would keep their phone longer than one or two years. I have a feeling the 16 Pro/Pro Max will get a more noticeable/significant design change.

I dont understand the benefit of titanium. What are people doing where they need their phone to be more resistant to torsion or whatever the right name of the force is on the phone. The aluminum is holding up fine. Titanium alloys are great but…not clear the benefit other than the initial wow.
Tha hardness of Ti frame is considerably higher in comparison to aluminum (in standard iP) and AISI 316 steel (in former Pro versions). It will be more scratch resistant.

All the reasons I'm looking to upgrade. I daily a 12 for personal use, and am ready for an upgrade :)

I find the amount of energy invested by those producing these rumours and those sucking them up and getting their knickers in a twist just totally out of proportion.

Just wait for the official announcement of what it's going to be, and do something else more useful with your valuable time.

Disclaimer - I love titanium and I have a bunch of titanium stuff. But it does look more tarnished, even compared to aluminium, after a short while. It wouldn't stop me from buying a 15 Pro, just trying to set expectations.

How much do you go outside? Do you have a bright house, with many windows? I have a theory that the problem that damns the 14P is the 2000 nit max brightness, but only for people who spend a decent amount of time in the sun to constantly activate it.

I spend most of my time indoors. Don’t get me wrong, I spend time outdoors and notice the battery drain then, but most of my time is indoors.

I don't even know what the initial wow is, but perhaps as a chemist I'm not super-excited by it.

I didn’t say it was poor, I said it was my biggest complaint. Charts mean nothing for my real world experience. My 14 Pro Max often doesn’t last me through the day. My 13 Pro had a smaller physical battery but had longer battery life than my 14 Pro Max does.

My battery life (I have a 14 Pro Max) was better when Apollo (reddit client) was still around. The official Reddit app takes up way too much battery. Its the same thing with Instagram as well.

6x won't do that much compared to 3x. Same for 2x and 3x. A bit of zoom is useful for framing but I wouldn't expect great image quality at zoom extreme - this is a phone, not a real camera with a 10k lens.

And if the periscope is not instant, it's going to be annoying.
I think the problem is that the zoom lenses would only improve picture quality (compared with a digital zoom) if there is a lot of light.

I find great life with my 14 ProMax battery but I am also retired so spend more time on my 12.9 iPad Pro. I usually have 3/4’s battery after all day use (thats from 7 am til 8-9 PM). Below first iphone daily then ipad daily next iphone 10 days and ipad 10 days obviously I spend on average 4 times as much time on my ipad vs iphone. I wonder what my battery life would be on my 14 ProMax if I spent as much screen time on it as I do daily on my iPad Pro. I suspect that is more the difference for me in having excellent battery at days end. But if one is on 8 hours ave a day like I am on my iPad then that would be a bit different.

If your iPhone is still supported and getting updates, use it until stops getting them. That means, you should not be thinking about an upgrade until iPhone 18 or 19.
That would be the (financially) smart thing to do...

But I'll probably gonna replace it this year, or next year at the latest...for that camera improvement... :)

Is there one of these in the same style for the 14P so I can get a good overview of what I’m gonna be getting as a 13P owner?
This might be your best bet, sir! I honestly prefer the iPhone 13 Pro models over the iPhone 14 Pro models.

Why? The camera in the iPhone 13 Pro models is better compare to the 14.
