I don’t know which is uglier: the iPhone rendering or the first four paragraphs of the article.

I was just about to post this. I don't think anyone would complain about a slightly thicker phone if they wouldn't have that unsightly bump and better battery life
I would. The iPhone 7, which was way thinner and lighter than the 8/X is so much more comfortable to hold in one hand. Also, almost all Androids are thinner and lighter and it just feels more pleasant.

Lots of people don't like the "bump" or the "notch" on the X. Me not so much. I wish the phones had a rougher surface. But it makes me wonder how Apple evaluates their case designs after they come out of Jony's head. I'm sure they would worry about leakage if they showed it to a large number of outsiders but the complaints about case design seem to get the most posts. They must be aware.

that is possible, why would anyone want to use an android...

I've never used one but they are pretty. It's the security issues that keep me from even playing with one.

Apple needs to steal whatever voodoo/black magic Samsung used on the S10+. I don't get how they got the phone to be so light, while still having such a huge battery. If Apple tried to increase the battery it would probably gain like 30 grams lol

I would, as it would make the thing extremely thick when in a case. That has always been the advantage of the camera bump -- it doesn't increase the phone's thickness when used in a case, as most people do.

That said, I hate this square tumor design. Assuming the final phone resembles the render, it might be the second ugliest product Apple ever made.

Not sure about 11R. One one hand it would make sense to keep it so consumers aren‘t confused but on the other hand the R in XR has no meaning and is just a letter before S to tell customers that XS is better than XR. We‘ll know more in September.
The XR is their best selling phone. Unless the 6.1” LCD model looks significantly different from the current model, there wouldn’t really be any motivation to change it.

btw R wasn’t selected because it came before S, it came from the car world. Phil Schiller said "I love cars and things that go fast, and R and S are both letters used to denote sport cars that are really extra special".

for me it's the awful user interface)))

If possible, what they should do is elongate the camera housing across the top of the back instead of the corner. I think the symmetry would look better and that way it can lay on a table without any wobble.

There’s no way to make something that big blend in so I hope the camera improvements are worth it. I would be curious to understand the engineering reason for placing the camera like that and keeping the camera in the corner. It’s not aesthetically pleasing.

I remember an article with the headline "XR stands for nothing", but I've googled and he indeed said it comes from the car world. Still doesn't make a lot of sense to me to have an 11, 11 Max and 11R. Unknowing customers might think the added R must mean that it's better than the one without the R. But like I said before, we'll know in September.

No magic. They likely made the phone's structural components thinner, which would make the phone more fragile. The X is only 17g heavier than the S10. I kind of like some heft to my phones.

Still ugly as hell.

Just put those cameras in the vertical or horizontal line. Both options would look much better.

Geez Jony what are you smoking there? You used to be good, bro! Remember 5S/SE design?
I’m going to take a wild guess that Apple’s industrial designers aren’t making these decisions. Apple has a huge camera team that I’m sure has a say along with all the hardware engineers. Anyway I’d be very surprised if Apple employees designed/engineered the camera array that way because they thought it looked better.

Wish it would follow the ipad pro design. This looks terrible.
So you want the phone to be aluminum again and only have one camera? Or even thicker bezels around the entire screen to match the width of the notch?

While it looks like a unique iPhone, the question is To upgrade or not to upgrade from an X or Xs? Don’t forget in 2020 5G iPhones will be around and maybe even a foldable
