".....While they carry serious consequences, leaks are completely avoidable. They are the result of a decision by someone who may not have considered the impact of their actions....:"

Of course in this country only workers bear consequences. Execs get to make mistakes and fail upwards and get paid for it.

I can understand that Apple wants to keep things secret, but they really should focus on their products...like MAC PROs.

Why are they so worried?

Who's going to copy a 16-year old Mac Pro or a Macbook Pro with a touchbar...?
NO one...Becuase no one copy badly designed products...

Are they so concerned that they will copy Animojis? Who cares about Animojis?

Actually, Apple might start copying Microsoft... Look at their Surface Studio. The design is way much better than the iMac (maybe not the components).

If you dislike Apple so much why are you here?

If Apple made something like the surface studio, I'd be all over it. I understand Apple's stance to a degree. The firing, yes, I agree about that, but blacklisting the person too? Not sure how I'd feel about that, especially since that could probably happen if Apple makes an announcement that the person was fired for leaking material anyway.

I just wish they'd work on their software and stop thinking only about the almighty dollar.

Have to admit, I laughed at the title of the article though.

Yeah, the iOS 11 GM leak was devastating imo to last year’s September event. Basically we knew everything already. It truly dampened down the event. It’s like watching a movie where we already knew all the plot details and ending.

Hope Apple can surprise us this year.

I love how you think Apple - the most successful company in history - valued financially higher then any other company in the world - doesn't know what they're talking about.

And saying they're "last in everything", while they have the top selling phone in the world, the top selling tablet, the top selling smartwatch, the top selling laptop and the top selling desktop in the world, is kind of silly, no?

If you know that Apple is going to release a new iPhone in 6 months, will you possibly buy a competing phone that releases before the new iPhone comes out? I am sorry, but this is an ancient way of thinking for an industry leading company. To add to the irony, Apple has been last on everything except for in the category of unneeded and unwanted, like a freaking Touch Bar on a laptop and not a touchscreen.

If your going to risk your job at least leak something exiting. Besides AirPods, what else has actually been interesting?

Quote:In 2017, Apple said it caught 29 leakers and that 12 of those people were arrested. "These people not only lose their jobs, they can face extreme difficulty finding employment elsewhere," the company said in the memo.

How nasty and stupid! Quite a few companies have nothing to hide and thus no reason to care whether an employee talks about their products. Indeed, most companies love employees who talk about and promote their products. Apple obsession with secrecy is weird, really weird.

The senseless of this rigid policy also loses them a lot of sales. A lot of the business world won't commit to a company that doesn't give them a heads up about future products. For a lot of Apple's product lines, we not only can't know what's coming, we don't even know if a particular product line will ever be upgraded.

Serves them right, and I AM IN FULL SUPORT of this action because if I was a company I would be soo livid for leaks and sharing informatoin. I as a CEO have explicitdly said NO SHARING NOR LEAKS of any kind, not an iota of it I would want to punish those employees that do harm to the company. Or I would put the penalties to the fullest extent. Imprisonment would be awesome. If I was an employee, I LOVED to adhere to that rule. I won't give a flying you know what about what anyone will think of me because rules are rules and I follow them especially working for a prestigious company, why risk it. I'll live a little in different ways, but I'd never will spill the beans. Go ahead put a gun to my head might as well die so if the company finds out that I kept my mouth shut because I'm all in, well they will know that I was veyr loyal.
Companies don't get "livid". The leaker was a cell in the company, perhaps a bit cancerous from the top execs' points of view. As with biological entities, cancer tends to attack vulnerabilities in the overall system. Apple has some real identity/direction issues. Who knows why the leaker did it - disgruntled over wages/hours, philosophically upset at Apple's directions, one can only speculate; however, I'd bet if the worker was satisfied with his job and its compensation, and with his future with his governing body - Apple - he'd be loyal and wouldn't leak anything. Someone in upper management got "livid", took it out on some mid-managers, who then "lividly" took it out on the actual leaking employee.

Good on AAPL for arresting leaky employees
What ever happened to the employee and his daughter who filmed inside the campus cafeteria with new iphone posting the video on youtube

Curiosity continues to motivate one to monitor ex-spouses, ex-lovers, former friends, companies they used to admire, etc. Conversely, if you like and are totally enamored and satisfied with Apple, why are YOU here? No matter what rumors transpire, you shouldn't care, as you have faith and love for Apple. They can remove a phone jack, remove ports, remove magsafe, withdraw support for Mac Pros and Mac Minis, raise prices ad nauseam - you, by definition, don't care. Apple can do no wrong, so following rumor mills on the internet should be a waste of time. Just go to apple.com or your local Apple store and be content that your god is still ascendant.

Sorry to rant, but to denigrate people who question the direction of a company, especially one in which you have invested time and money over (sometimes) many years, is folly. Most folks who don't like Apple wouldn't even browse this site. Those who are perhaps a bit negative, these days, are reacting like a jilted, betrayed friend. It's just a company, not a person. Let both praise and criticism narrow things down to the truth of its current status. So far, Apple makes a lot of money, and as lovers point out, a lot more than when SJ was in charge. Perhaps, given the "haters", money isn't the only measure of success.

The execs aren’t violating the law. They do a lousy job, they don’t get another one...not a jail sentence.

With many companies, especially the fortune list, you sign paperwork that is an nda. You agree to these conditions as a condition of your employment.

Many companies have a lot to lose from illegal disbursement of proprietary information; to the contrary of your statement. From IP, theft of services, customer lists, corporate strategy, etc.

Start your own company and give your employees the freedom to do whatever they want with your resources.

In an enlightened company, your employees ARE your most valuable resources.

Tim Cook must be sitting on something big.that they dont want getting out
Meanwhile the memo was leaked 10 minutes later

I appreciate their worry about corporate espionage

If you dislike Apple so much why are you here?

This is precisely why he/she is here. With another, about 80% users :)

I have recently accepted that the Apple, I have admired, died with Steve. There is still Apple, just it became “just another tech company” to me.

Of course that is completely matter of taste,
but for me, the iPhone 4, MacBook Pro with that little plastic remote to control Front Row,
that was it. Maybe was not the best it could be, but it was heck of a charming and setting apart from others.

Anyway
Apple is like a leaky old ship now, yet with not so much to leak.

I'm curious about what was leaked, they mentioned it was a discussion about Apple's software roadmap but there seems t be no details on that reported anywhere.

I admit it would have been nice to see a leak on MacBook Pro's roadmap just to see if they have plans to build an actual laptop again.

When you are fighting leaks, what is the difference?

If there is a difference, it is not in what is the motivation for fighting leaks but how do you motivate your employees not to leak.
It must be power of suggestion but after reading several pages of posts talking about leaks I really have to pee.:eek:
