Yeah I'll say it....that darn notch will not go away (Guess I shouldn't be shocked) 🙄
Maybe 2021, 2022....who knows.

Interesting, I recall promoting the idea (possibly here) a long time ago that they could implement widgets on the home screen by keeping the same grid style, but, one, allowing app icons to have active/updating content (like the icon for iOS's Clock app), and, two, allowing app icons to occupy a rectangle of multiple (1x2, 2x1, 1x4, 2x2, etc) grid spaces.

I wish Apple would bring a lot more customisation to the iPhone. The fact that with Samsung phones you can customise just about anything, is really appealing. Also Apple should make a smaller Apple Pencil for the larger iPhone (like the S-Pen with the Note series).

That would be a great upgrade and compete with Samsungs Note series.
The focus being on the word "can". Since hardly anyone ever does that. People often don't even change their ring tones. How often have I heard this dreaded bird chirp on Samsung phones whenever someone got a new message.

I think the company winning the hardware 'looks' department has to be Samsung. Can't stand Android, can't stand Samsung's flavour of Android - but I have to say their phone form factors look pretty nice. The 'bezel free' iPhone isn't all that bezel free.

it’s just about choice, like having the S-Pen seems like a nice feature, would a lot of people use it daily? Probably not but there are those of us that would.

Jon Prosser, the guy who previously claimed a notchless schematics was fake and showed the original stock image, now claims this is 100% real, regardless this image and the notchless one share the same schematics. The only difference is the notch.

Just look how much space the notch plus the under notch bar in safari is. Thats a good 1/4" to almost 1/2" of space we are losing because of the way the notch cuts into the screen/top bar.

You’re not “losing” anything because the notch is in the status bar area, which in phones without the notch holds nothing but the status icons, and will continue to hold nothing but status icons when the notch goes away.

Whether based on leaks or guesses, how much narrower can we expect the notch to be on future iPhones? One third? Half?

Did you read the article?

He said the widgets are true. He would know, he has the iOS 14 code

You already get A lot of choice on the iPhone. Really the only thing you can’t change is the way the lock screen and home screen look

in January my office issued all of us 11’s. Maybe I have OCD that the phones screen is not uniform. But my eyes always notice the horrible notch. People have said to me I would eventually not notice it. It’s been 3 months. I notice the notch daily. Glad I personally own an 8+.

A front facing LiDAR could replace the infrared camera, flood illuminator, and dot projector. There’d be a standard RGB camera on one side of the speaker and a LiDAR on the other, resulting in a much smaller and simplified notch.

The camera layout is less ugly than the triple one in the pro

and the notch is smaller

these are good things ... what else

Have you not seen how much bigger the LiDAR is compared to Face ID?

It’s interesting to read ‘the notch’ comments on sites like this, but outside the tech world, for anyone that’s owned the latest iPhones with a notch, I’ve never heard it mentioned by anyone. Simply because consumers probably don’t care and they see the greater picture of how convenient face ID is, which overrides the aesthetic of a ‘cut out’ at the top of the display. If Apple decides to minimize it, so be it, but it’s never been an issue affecting the iPhone anyway whatsoever.
Yep. I have literally, not once, heard anyone outside of tech forums/Reddit complain or even comment on The Notch since the X.

While I will certainly welcome a smaller notch, the vast majority (in my experience) simply do not care.

That's because the people most bothered by it don't buy it...

You’re losing plenty up top the way things are designed around the notch. Including pop downs for making desktop site extra... this can be easily moved over and up where the bitch is and all that information you are losing will be gained back.
even the small writing drag down search bar would be raised up making that whole 1/4” of space more screen real estate.
