A different manufacturing method or a different material was definitely used.

Look at the iPhone 6 (Plus) on the right with the "milling marks" left behind compared to the left where it has a smooth, continuous flow process

6s-plus-rear-housing-9.jpg

The majority of the "significant" increase in stiffness is from the changes in the manufacturing methods. The new 7000 series aluminum is not a big deal, IMO.
The Ribbed Pattern on the back is very rigid. :apple:

I bought the iPhone 6 on release, and received a bent iPhone right out of the box (yep, right out of the box - didn't even place it on the table ahead of me before noticing). I for one know that the iPhone 6 is actually easily susceptible of bending. That said, I think some of the Samsung-conspiricies are rather out of place. Sure, maybe the issue was blown out of proportion, but whoever claims it didn't exist must be married to Jony Ive.

I received a brand new replacement iPhone 6 the same day of release, as well as some great compensation from the retail store manager. They handled the issue with flying colors. Hence I will continue to buy Apple products.

As my iPhone 6 works perfectly, I see no need to replace it with the 6S. I look forward to the iPhone 7 however, hopefully they have improved on the design by that point, as the iPhone 6 is not the best looking phone in my book. Would love to see a better implementation of the antenna bands and maybe a slight reduction in bezel size. Until then my iPhone 6 will do.

Now that I think about it, maybe Apple invented bendgate themselves. It didn't exist anyway, so they created a fake problem so they can tout the next iPhone as "stronger" because they didn't have many upgrades in the pipeline for the next one. :)

Oh okay.. I hear you on that...if i didn't have too much invested..i would too.

Can anybody tell me what "Too much invested" is in dollar value? I probably have a couple hundred dollars invested in software for the iPhone but I can't see that from stopping me to switch platforms if was not happy with it....

Then again I love iPhones but also use Android.

It did actually, just on a much smaller scale than the media blew it up to be. As I stated above, my 6 bent within a couple of weeks and I baby my phones. I took it into the Apple store, they verified that it caused touch screen issues and replaced it on the spot. The Genius Bar rep that helped me was fully aware that it was an issue.

Looking at your avatar makes me wonder whether you prefer a black or white iPhone.

To much is a few hundred. I don't want to purchase chargers, cords, devices, apps all over again. Plus I didn't say I wasn't happy, just bored. Although I will say this iPhone 6+ has by far been my worst iPhone experience. Which goes back to iPhone 3G. This is actually the only Apple product I own. From the bending to the orientation being wrong often to the random Apple logo soft resets, to the wonky graphics glitches. It's just been flawed. Yet still better than my perception of android due to mostly family members experiences with it.

Changing the placement of a few screws makes for a stronger body? One its all speculation and two I would assume the layout inside of the 6S won't be exactly the same as the 6 so different screw placement wouldn't be surprising.

yeah screw placement can improve the structure. If that does not make sense to you, I understand why you a sceptical. Talk to an engineer. The article does have validity.

lol, reading this thread it seems the level of delusion is over 9000!

iPhone 6 Plus' did bend for some people. It's not an imaginary problem. Get over it.

 ok....I guess?

But you don't have to be a fanboy to understand that bendgate was pure trumped up and blown way out of proportion.

Perhaps it was blown out of proportion but it unquestionably bends without excessive force. My iPhone 4 never had any issues with bending and I wasn't always gentle with it for 3 years. People complained the glass shattered, but I see shattered screens on every phone I see in the wild so calling out the iPhone seemed silly on that one.

My 5s is still in perfect condition after almost two years, again I don't actually baby it. If they don't make the 6s stronger than the 6, I'll wait until they make a more structurally stable phone. 7 hopefully?

Are you kidding me, still these ugly couch-potato colors and ugly bands?

Because the iPhone 6/S is so overpriced I wouldn't even pay more to add custom black coat/painting.

I really rooted for this iPhone 6S (under the right, erf no, decent specs conditions) but I think this is it for me and my company switching away.

Ok

Yes... just like they "randomly" changed from Gorilla Glass 1 to 2... and 2 to 3... and now are changing 3 to 4... is glass breakage an enormous issue? Or is there simply an opportunity to improve their device? Ever work with a product manager, in any industry?

And I'm pretty sure the antenna issue was very real, since, ya know... they had a press conference where they said as much, identified a very precise location on the phone where it was occurring, and then gave everyone that wanted one free cases...

Yea, broken glass on phones is the largest issue I see everywhere. Not just Apple either. I'm sure a lot get replaced if customers make a big enough stink about it. Upgrading to a newer, stronger glass would save large amounts of returns, swaps, replacements. It makes more financial sense to use the new glass even if it costs a little more if you have less issues.

Interesting that Apple took the "it is a non-issue" approach with the whole bend-gate thing yet they are doing this. Much welcomed but my 6 Plus bent and they wouldn't replace it saying it was my fault.

Well, it was. You did something to bend it. It didn't bend on its own.

there are many definition of "too much invested." I would say if 80 percent in your household would be apple products..macs, iPhones, MBPs,...and using apple specific apps like fcpx...or whatever.

I'm really bored with iOS particularly on the iPhone, I'm also bored of the iPhone to be honest as nothing much has changed.

That's why I've been an Android user for many years now, mainly because of the customization options in the OS. Would love to see something like that in iOS, I understand that Apple wants iOS easy to use which it is. But you gotta admit things get pretty boring when it's only a row of icons..

I find customising my phone to be a really boring activity.

Really, so the change in screw placements based on these photos means a more structurally rigid iPhone? Like I said it's all guessing at this point. I'm sure Apple is continuously trying to improve their products, be it the materials they use or the manufacturing process.

Am I the only one that likes the plastic cutouts? I think they add to the aesthetic on the White/Silver and White/Gold models... the space grey not so much...

If they release a rose gold color you can bet a dollar I'll try to replace the front panel glass with a black colored one... Sure it might be challenging because of the Touch ID ring and sapphire lens but Black on Rose gold would look stunning in my opinion.

On the other hand, you do in fact have to be a fanboy to sit there and say anyone this happened to is either lying or paid by Samsung to purposely ruin there phone.

Agreed. In 2016 when ebay is full of 2 year old 6,6s "bend free" will be a selling point. I actually think that more people's phones are bent than is thought. 90% of iphone owners slap a case on and remove it only before selling. Even then, the bend may be so miniscule that they don't notice...

The cut outs are hideous IMO. So you might be one of the few that like it.

Logo on back should be of sapphire for touch id and have an led for alerts as well as serving as the rf window.

Of course they would fix the Bendgate issue after their design misconception last year. They had a year to do pretty much just on that. This is meant to happen when you work on a tick-tock model.

I wish they would have fixed the cutouts though. I bloody hate them, and I'm pretty sure I'm going to get a 6s to replace my 5.
