When you look at the aspect ration of the top of the case, it's more of a 4x3 than 16x9 ratio. Current MacBooks are closer to 4x3.

Actually, the MacBook screen is a 16:10 ratio screen, as are all current Mac displays including the cinema displays.

I would really like to see the sides and back to get an idea of what the ports look like.

I haven't seen anyone mention it but I would really like to see a docking station solution for the new MBP.

I will settle for the display port, usb and phono on the same side or back, but a docking station would be great.

Cheers,

R

that actually would be a cool idea.
never thought about that

well shoot...

im glad I got my MBP when I did, no I get time to learn OSX and not have the horrible air keyboard!

Most laptops now are 16:10, it seems to the the laptop standard atm, I'm pretty sure it was Sony who came out with the first 16:10 .

I am looking to get a new laptop and if the new Macbook Pros are priced right, the rumor is correct (and I get a good tax return) then I'll be getting one. :apple:

It's about time the MBP got an overhaul but I'm also hoping the the good old MacBook gets a case refresh as well, it would be a nice surprise.

when asked why the MacBook Pro design hasn't changed since it's transition from PowerBook G4, Steve Jobs answered "why would we want to change it? it's perfect right now" and it basically has been since the Titanium PowerBook.

Oh come on! Steve Jobs is a salesman. He will say anything for a buck.

Nothing is perfect.

Electronics such as computer components change rapidly. They change in size, weight, performance, efficiency, etc. When components change then chassis and other elements need to change.

Technology interfaces change. New designs need to incorporate multi-touch human interface devices. There are a multitude of updates than could and should be made to the MBP.

As soon as Apple comes out with the next major MBP design change, people will drop the old model like flies. It will be like comparing a 1978 Ford Mustang to a 2008 Turbo Shelby.

The old silver rectangle MBP is dated. It needs a change not only in the aesthetics but also in functionality, portability, connectivity, and durability.

to longtime mac users it seems dated, but to the majority of people, the design is still fairly innovative. heck, most laptop makers are only just now taking design cues from it- its currently the 'in' look. The design is just date to most mac users because of how long its been around but really, to me (a new mac user) it seems pretty new and refreshing compared to my old pentium II, 15 lb. compaq armada.

Am I the only one who can't make heads or tails of the picture?

In the bottom half of the picture, I see the bottom of the notebook, with the two rubber feet.

I don't understand the picture where the watermark is in the middle. It looks as if the screen is connected at an angle and is overhanging the bottom of the notebook covering the other two rubber feet and where the new battery supposedly is.

Is the whitish/silverish piece to the right of the picture related?

Sorry, I must be dense!

The 2 halves aren't connected. The photographer has simply set the 2 halves next to each other. The bottom half is smaller, because the battery makes up 30% of it.

so why not take the pic with the empty battery spot or with teh battery attached??? seems kinda weird.

Because these are just the case shells.

It is suppose to be from a factory that makes the housing. He theoretically didn't have access to the battery. Also there is no computer in the shells yet so there is no empty battery slot.

There is only a stamped form for the logo because it has not been installed yet.

In fact, there is no way to know if this shell is even going to stay silver or if it is later to be anodized black or some other color.

So...forgive me if I'm wrong...but didn't the old MBP have a spot to remove the RAM too...? Where's the slot for that...? I will not give up RAM swapping for HDD swapping.

Think about it.

Then if you don't know, find a video or pictures of RAM replacement on the MacBook.

a) the 1978 Mustang is a nicer car
b) I am glad I have a current MBP - if the keyboard changes black; I won't want one.
c) design changes for technology are one thing, but I really think the current MBP is the best looking computer I have ever had and will be amazed if I ever see anything this minimalist and industrial looking again.

ARe they going to update the Pro and regular Macbook lines at the same time?
I am dying to see the Macbook.

I can see why everyone wants Blu-Ray, but I just can't see it happening on the laptops just yet. I think Mac Pro's will be able to have them by next year.
And then maybe Blu-Ray drive in 17-inch MacBook Pro's in late 2009 - early 2010.

Cool. Only 2 years after pcs got them. Jeebus Apple, why all the hardware foot draging ? Just put all the phreaking stuff that everybody else has been putting in there computers. These hardware updates are like watching pant dry. Just slower.

That new design does look nice. I'd also like it to have a thicker wedge shape a la the Air, and not the flat design a la the MacBook. Maybe even a price drop will occur, too.

That would me my question as especially since the Macbook ATM is looking very out of place in the Mac line up.

only way i would give two bowel movements about a new casing for the MBP is if it adds more ports (ex. another USB 2.0, SD Card read, etc.).

incredible as it sounds, but this rumor comes at such an inconvenient time for me.
I am currently in the US leaving for Europe in 2,5 weeks. I was planning on buying a Macbook Pro next week but with the latest rumors about a possible update....
... here I am, on the horns of a dilemma... The price difference Europe - US for the lowest MBP is almost 700€ (that is over 1000 USD!!!!!) For exactly the same product. Please release this within the next two weeks or don't release it until late autumn or so.

I guess I am not the only one being in this situation...

I'm also in the market for a new laptop and have been waiting to see what's on deck.

If apple does put blu-ray drives in their notebooks I would expect that it would probably be optional (@~$300-$400 upgradeable feature).

Something that I would like to see would be HDMI, several PC manufacturers already offer this.

Where do the ports go?

I'm as excited as the next person about the upcoming redesign but I'm a little confused.

How is a Air like MBP going to have all the ports it needs. You don't really have space in a wedge shaped design to have ports the way you had with the old design. This didn't bother the air as it only had like 2 ports but I don't think that will fly for a MBP :p

Any ideas?

(sorry if this was asked already. I don't have time to read the whole thread)

I agree with many of the new Mac owners - the design of the MacBook Pro is great, its the tweaks that are needed: accessible HD and memory; more USB; docking port (see the Portege and IBM x series); MacBook Air quality screen.

the apple logo looks too small for 13.3" imo. My money's on 15.4"
Dont really understand that, isnt the logo the same size in both, or if they are different sizes, isn't the 15.4" logo bigger? Sorry for the noobish question

alright weather man...

i really think. i mean really... they will release something before the back to school promotion. Tell me if i am wrong.

so, wait... Montevina mobile processors are coming before the desktops?
Apple only uses the mobile processors anyways (Except the Mac Pro), so as long as they come out at the same time, it doesnt really matter.

The 12" MacBook Pro has been supplanted by the Air. Get used to it.

Oh, how i wish that wasn't true. I would love to have a 12" MBP replacement. Just put a graphics card in the Blackbook for Pete's Dragon!
