PLEASE NOOO!! i hate that battery style

That's possibly the most mac-centric, tragic and pitiful thing I've ever seen written here. Seriously - how can you hate the shape and location of the battery? It sits in the bottom, it has lights on it, it lasts ages - who cares about anything else.

Incidentally, apart from including a bluray drive - there isn't much if anything, in terms of performance, that they could do to the MBP to update it. Possibly new GFX, but that's it. I'm not expecting MBP updates anytime soon.

ha ha. I obsess about my macs too, but not to the point that I'm concerned about the aesthetics of battery placement (though I do admit I think the MBP battery latch is much better than the MB one - sad to even have an opinion!).

This is barely a redesign, it seems, at least on the outside - at least of the MBs. Personally, I prefer the square simplicity - I don't like all the bevels on the Air. Just me. And i just bought my MBP, so I don't particularly want them to launch a redesign in the next 6 months! Perhaps I'll write to Steve...

i really don't think the two small screw holes are hinges for the screen... take a look at the bottom - front part of macbook air....

i was also thinking that probably the odd holes where the apple logo will be placed, are more like hinges for it and will probably have a black apple logo like the ones on the i mac!!! (just assuming)
but wouldn't that be just GREAT ? ? ?

Maybe lose the DVD drive and pop in another HD like in the Mac Pro. You could get a RAID 0 (or 5 if you prefer security) array 2x500Gb... :)
It's been done before with floppy/cd-drives, right? And this would fit easily into a 17 incher...

I think the holes on the Apple logo are where the LEDs will go, so it can light up.

That's incorrect. The Apple logo is lit up by the screen and doesn't need any LEDs, considering that would use more battery life, and God knows we don't want that

Yea, totally disagree with you on that. He pointed out the hinges and he is right. It looks like the current MBP hinge spot AND the Air hinge spot...maybe just without the top half on it.

I'm waiting until August to purchase my new MacBook Pro...I'm going to be disappointed if nothing new is released when I get mine :(

same. school starts Aug 25th for me soooo I'm really hoping for an update to purchase my first mac ever!

why make the bottom part so ugly? i love the current bottom with the battery check light,

so they are making it look just like all the other laptops with that latch and the battery covering the back end.

p.s why doesnt Engadget show these pics? maybe apple doesnt want them too?

Apple isnt going to clutter the bottom with vents and such, as you depicted with the PC. The botton will look similar to the current design, the only difference being that there will be one battery latch instead of two, and there will be one long "casing gap" instead of having a rectangular "gap" going all the way around the battery.
It seems the new design will actually result in a cleaner bottom, not a more cluttered one.

New Macbook Pro?

Ok, so a new casing. So when is the new Macbook Pro's going to be released? My son is off to college in September and needs to buy a computer but we are sort of waiting for the release of the new Macbook Pro and it would be great to get the latest version.

*sigh*

Only Apple know. We can but speculate based on past experience.

They could hold a special event (unlikely, unless they launch new aluminium Macbooks at the same time giving the bulk of the Macbook line an overhaul), they might get released before the start of the educational year (unlikely, as Apple will no doubt try and clear current generation stock with a free iPod when you buy a Mac back to school offer for students), in time for the holiday period (likely) or Macworld San Francisco 2009 in January (almost definitely if they haven't released before then).

One thing you can be assured of is that they won't be released until after (or at the same time as) Intel's delayed Montevina platform, which has been pushed back to July 14th. So you may see them July 15th, but don't hold your breath.

Not much to go on, but I hope that helps.

Fwiw, having the latest and greatest is all well and good, but there are some great deals to be had at the Apple refurb store (refurb more often than not meaning dead stock from the previous generation). Something to bear in mind, as you/we could be waiting quite a while for the new MBP to see the light of day.

EDIT: Check out the Buyer's Guide (but remember it is only a guide based on speculation): https://buyersguide.macrumors.com//#MacBook_Pro

I hope it comes out before I go to college too!!

One question, will this affect pricing at all?!? Please say no increase!

...the screws indicate that the screen will be attached there because it would be quite hard to attach one where there was a removeable battery...

Ive just taken my imac off ebay after reading these pages

i really hope its soon as ive been meaning to upgrade for ages now and now i have to wait even longer! although it will be worth the wait for certain!

If they put the battery in the front of the new machine that means that the superdrive will have to be on the side!!! The front loading superdrive is one of my least favorite aspects of the Macbook Pro!!! Also, I would like to point out the current alarm being caused among Macbook Pro owners because of the possibility of the NVida 8600Gt graphics failures!!! NVida has actually confirmed the failures...what is Apple going to do especially since this is their current card!!!???

wait, so it's confirmed that the 8600GT are the defective ones, in addition to the 8500s?

Just so long as they don't make it even thinner, jesus..

Agreed. What's up with Apple's obsession with making everything thinner these days? The thicker it is the more breathing space it has and thus runs cooler.
Apple should've just put Intel chips into the PowerBook G4 cases since the beginning of the Intel transition.
