I personally think the upgrade is impending, just read yesterday that all of the G84/G86 cards are defective that means the 8600GT is defective, obviously I wasnt suprised as the temperature of the 8600GT in the MBP has never really been normal in my opinion.
And you can clearly get the feeling about that the stock is swindling everywhere when it comes to the current components, and more and more resellers are stopping to order the 8600GT which has been replaced by the 9600GT in the most midrange up and coming laptops.
All in all new laptops is a must for Apple to even have a chance to keep its current marketshare the coming months, the competition is stiff and basically every major vendor has announced their new lineups, and I personally have always considered this current model a joke when it comes to term of value, using a budget crap card for a model which is branded PRO for two years is just pure swindlery in my opinion.
Besides that, I dont know the exact pricings for the MBP in the states, but over here in Sweden, the MBP with the same processor/memory/hdd/gpu etc etc costs twice the dell XPS 1530 with the exact same specs, so its a tad funny, you get a 2,5ghz, 4gig ram, 2x160gig, dual 8800M GTX dell xps 1730 cheaper than the midrange MBP over here.
Obviously they have to update to keep up with competition, not even offering bluray in the PRO branded products is a joke when competitors offer it in theyre budget lappies.
I feel kind of cheated, because I love the Mac OSX, and I work with programs which only function in mac so I am forced to use a overpriced mac, thats why I have been keeping off buying a new MBP, if I am gonna spend 4k $ on a MBP I'll spend it on the day the new model surfaces, because thats the only way I can somehow justify the purchase, not by much but a little atleast.
