Anyone think we could see the use of a Display Port in the new Macbook Pro instead of DVI?

HDMI and/or DisplayPort will be in addition to, not in place of, DVI-I. The MacBook Pro still needs to play nice with business projectors, the significant majority of which still use a DB15 VGA input. HDMI and DP are digital-only outputs, while DVI-I also outputs analog.

I know the mabook wont have the connection built in at least. but im wishing they have a Mini-DVI to hdmi option i can at least buy.

i doubt they would do that because dvi is display only but hdmi is display and audio, so it would kind of defeat the purpose...

There won't be Blu-ray,

They should drop HD footage from Final Cut and iMovie then?

External HDDs don't do everything people need. Nor does online distribution. Like it or not, the Blu Ray format is here to stay for as long as DVD has been around - for both data archiving and movie distribution. Sony, HP, Dell - all sell laptops with BR.

Currently, the MBP is not the best laptop in the world. But it remains one of the most expensive. An amount of OSX tax is fine - but OSX tax PLUS under specifying the machine PLUS overcharging by 200-300% for extra RAM etc... is not.

Hi,
judging by the shadows in the photo it seems that the top cover has the same thickness as the bottom part:confused:. If so it makes no sense because the interior space must be at least 0.4inch to fit a hdd plus the thickness of the shell is almost half an inch multiplied by two (the top cover being the same height) resulting 1inch. No thinner macbook pro here!
What do you think?

I expect the MBP to eventually offer a Blu-Ray option, but with physically-compatible slot-drive readers pushing $400 and burners pushing $1000 even offering it as a BTO option is unlikely since the demand would be very low and Apple would be sitting on a great deal of unmoved inventory.

.......... I also don't like the oversized trackpad. Why? After moving the cursor or scrolling, I like to just move my fingers to the little area above the trackpad and below the keyboard. This way, I don't have to move my entire hand away from the trackpad to ensure I don't hit anything. If that little space didn't exist... I would be quite unhappy, to say the least :(

you can still do this, the multi touch track pad(Like the iphone) is smart enought to notice unintentional taps or touches, so you can still rest your hand on the oversized trackpad

Lifeinhd,

Have you tried the chiclet (spelling?) style keyboard. It does take a little getting use to, but once you do it is amazing. I have the Apple USB keyboard at home and I'm thinking of purchasing one for my office, because I love it that much.

I think what they should do is use the chiclet keys but make them silver like the current color on the MBP. I do think the black keys on the silver background looses some of the upscale/classy look.

Before I bought my MacBook Pro, I went down to an Apple Store just to test out the different keyboards on the different notebooks. I found I could type a lot faster on the MacBook Pro than I could on the MacBook. I decided I'd rather not have to relearn how to type (plus, I wanted a bigger screen, but that's not important right now). I also liked the firmness of the springs in the MP's keyboard-- you can rest your fingers on the keys even with a little pressure on them, and they won't press.

If Apple made the next-gen MBP keys chicklet but silver, that might be better than making them black, but I'd still have to think twice before purchasing one.

I prefer to move my fingers, even if it's just for peace of mind :)

Plus, I went down to an Apple store to test out an Air, and tried to use the actual button for clicking (I generally don't do this). I found that because it was so small, I kept missing it, and I would have to move my finger so far down that it felt uncomfortable. Making the trackpad a little bigger wouldn't hurt, but making it Air-sized would.

i do agree that the mouse button is unusually small, but i must stress that i'd prefer a bigger trackpad to comfortably use gestures

wow, this is a incredibly bad moc-up, i could of did a beeter job, with windows paint, and im not exactly a rock star when it comes to stuff like that.

but i must hand it too you, you DID, get you point across, it would look nice it it was all the same color(althought in the mockup it wasnt). because i still feel that the black would be a good contrast to the pretty much ALL silver exterior... not EVERYTHING has to match

I prefer all silver, too.

And why do people not like speaker grills? I think that not only do they look reasonably attractive, but they offer better sound quality, too. I just wish stuff didn't keep getting into them

I like speaker grills to be visible for the sound quality and look .

A vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment is your friend to remove dust etc from hard to clean places ...I use one on my old imac keyboard all the time ....no reason why it wouldn't work to get bits out the speaker grills too

I bought a macbook in march, so i'm not really regretting the purchase considering the timeframe. I'll probably pick up a macbook pro sometime next year before university, but not if they add those god awful black keys onto it. The air looks tacky.

You won't be missing out on anything

I bought my MBP 2 years ago and still feel great about my purchase to this day

I think I am going to end up buying a new one in mid-late August but am not positive

Looks pretty good, although I think there might be more differences from the MB/MBA to make it a "Pro" model.

this is my version to what i think the MBP should look like. I combined a bit of some of the other mock ups i saw along with a little of my own. I also updated it to have the seem from the detachable battery
