Really? I had always heard the Aluminum on the MBP was hotter than the plastic of the MB. I guess you learn something new everyday...i guess that means I'm done, no more learning today :D  ;)

Yes, the shell on the MBP is hotter on your lap, but I think Weckart was talking about the internals, the CPU.

Obviously everyone who says its a macbook seems to be retarded since AI said they heard from they're inside connections that the pictured MBP is actually legit.

Calm down. Take a chill pill.
Me saying that it could be a new MacBook doesn't make me retarded. It's just that it looks more like a MacBook to me than a MacBook Pro.
No reason for you to call somebody retarded without actually knowing them.

I agree. I think this could just as easily be the new MacBook as opposed the pro version. I know, I know...aluminum is pro. If this is the new prototype then the battery seems to be fixed in the case, which I'm guessing is the way Apple will go with the next MacBook.

I have to disagree with aluminium being pro in Apple's set up. It used to be, but the last addition to the aluminium family was the MBA –which is basically a trimmed down MB with tapered edges.

Then, of course, there's the iMac and the Mac Mini. Neither of which is "pro" by any stretch of the imagination.

Edit: I forgot: Even the _iPod_ Mini was aluminium.

I think we agree. To me the whole idea of the professional/consumer dichotomy is a marketing construction that goes in the face of the DIY nature of using computers, but some people love hierarchy no matter what the category.

The aluminum is just one matter. The size and proportions of the case indicate that it is not a MacBook, unless Apple is planning on introducing a 15-17" MacBook that's not a Pro.

We know the size of an M2 screw and the measurements of a 13" MacBook. The photo is incompatible with both. The bottom case is not deep enough for a 13" computer of any kind, nor would it accommodate an optical drive in the side position. The hinge area is almost exactly in proportion with a 15" MBP, as is the top case HxL ratio.

As another poster mentioned, the Apple logo is also out of proportion for a machine smaller than 15".

Yes, it's possible that the MacBook is going aluminum, that Apple has decided to shrink its logo, that it will not have an internal optical drive, and that Apple is introducing a larger model.

But considering that it's nearly identical to the current MBP in proportions and layout (apart from the battery compartment), Occam's Razor applies.
If this is the new prototype then the battery seems to be fixed in the case, which I'm guessing is the way Apple will go with the next MacBook.
I don't think you paid much attention to the article or the photo, then. The battery is not fixed--it's not even pictured. The shallow depth of the bottom case is a result of the battery filling out the final 3-4" of the bottom case (otherwise the top and bottom would not fit together).
I hope it's a 13in pro or macbook, because I will be all over that.
That photo is not a 13" anything. That doesn't preclude the possibility that they're working on a 13" model--but this isn't it.

Now that the iPhone has been released.
I bet by this week, there will be a new rumors for the new MBP and MB's and it will be discussed for days. You just wait and see.

the hell with the iphone 3g, i have the 1g unlocked with 2.0 fw.. :D

now to the better new about new macbook!!! GO GO GO!

I made a quick mockup of what I hope the inside ends up looking like.

I didn't really put any thought into the ports.
What do you guys think?

Looks Really good! Good job! The front part of the MBP will be the battery maybe. Or it might be the rear end :). But I really dont mind the black keys and the MBA look (as long as they dont compromise any heating issues). Lets just hope it will arrive as soon as possible. Cant wait anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

mockups

i found these three mockups, i figure the nem MBP will be along the lines of these, or at least i hope

I think overall, it's a decent mockup, but I have a couple quirks:
1. The battery is going to take up a whole side-- either the front or back-- of the computer. I think it's going to be the front, because if it were the back, all the ports would have to be shifted forward, and Apple wouldn't want to do that. But if the battery's on the front, that means the optical drive couldn't be on the front, and would have to be on the side.
2. WHY does everyone love the MacBook Air's keyboard? When Jobs opened the Air for the very first time on stage, I saw the keyboard and thought it was revolting. I'm really kinda hoping they'll use the same keys on the current MacBook Pro. I also think they're easier to type on than MacBook keys.
3. I want another firewire 800 port!!! :(

I like several aspecs from the last two, but not the first one. I really can't say just how much I hate the Air's keyboard, and really hope it doesn't make its way to the MBP. I also don't like the oversized trackpad. Why? After moving the cursor or scrolling, I like to just move my fingers to the little area above the trackpad and below the keyboard. This way, I don't have to move my entire hand away from the trackpad to ensure I don't hit anything. If that little space didn't exist... I would be quite unhappy, to say the least :(

I really like the sides of the second one. I mean, I like it being rounded too, but this is also an interesting design.

I like the colors from the third design. And the tapered design is also sort of cool. But I really kinda want something with a latch. It's so much better than magnets. Which reminds me... if AI's design is really how the next MBP will work... where will the latch go? On the battery? Or... will there be no latch? Now I'm scaring myself.

I especially like this one. Keep that tapered crap on the Air.

I agree.

The first one is the best. Besides, if you wan't the ports AND the taper, you'd have to make the MBP thicker (Go ahead and take a look from the side on your MBP, and you'll noticed that "Aired" photoshop of the MBP is rather much thicker by comparison.

Unfortunately, though, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple actually tried to pull it off, claiming that it's now "even thinner*"

*at the edges.

Hmmm if they change the keyboard to the "chicklet" design of the Air/Macbook I might purchase a pro when it comes out. One of the main reasons I chose a Macbook over a Pro was because I disliked the Pro's cramped keyboard style. Can't wait to see what Apple actually comes out with.

Can't wait for the new MBP's to come. Hope they come with HDMI BluRay and faster connections like FW3200 and 3G

I really hate the little plastic edges. As long as the new MBP loose these I'm a happy man.

I would be even happier if the would loose aluminium entirely and moved to carbon fibre.

Hope the remove fugly speaker grills.

i thik this one is a bit more realistic because the edges are sort of tapered at the edges and there are no compromises when it comes to ports.

although this i more on wishful thinking than actual likelyhood

dont get me wrong i love the MBA design,it's just if the new MBP's dont have a decent amount of ports or(more importantly) an optical drive then i'm most definatly not going to get one and opt for the previous generation

There won't be Blu-ray, and therefore there won't be HDMI. Also, no one builds cellular networking into a computer. That's what the ExpressCard slot is for.

FireWire 3200 would rock, though. I say replace the 800 with that (since they're backwards compatible) and add another USB on each model.

Lifeinhd,

Have you tried the chiclet (spelling?) style keyboard. It does take a little getting use to, but once you do it is amazing. I have the Apple USB keyboard at home and I'm thinking of purchasing one for my office, because I love it that much.

I think what they should do is use the chiclet keys but make them silver like the current color on the MBP. I do think the black keys on the silver background looses some of the upscale/classy look.
