I have changed the HDD on several models (iMac G5/Intel, MBP SR, MB) and its quite easy to change, just be carful when doing it as with any electronic device.

Why would you ask an Apple Tech to do it for an absurd fee, its easy and can be done quickly, sure the first time is nerve racking however you get over it. People either have too much disposable income or think its brain surgery, and no it my warranty did not get void since I did not break anything while doing the replacement. :)

As a Mac Genius for Apple, we tend to giggle every time we replace a hard drive. I promise it's not that hard.

I will guarantee that there will be people who mess it up, look at the FireWire and USB port deformations. I thought that was straightforward, apparently not. Evolution where art thou. ;):)

Agreed, I used to support some of these people... One used to jam CDs in between drive bays and wonder why they wouldn't play... What a numpty he was!

On a slightly related topic, is the Macbook Air considered part of the Pro or consumer ("i") product line?

I really don't think either. It's a niche product that is for a specific audience. The audience that needs a lightweight laptop. Not the mainstream consumer, or the professional ones.

I have been hearing rumors of the 12.x" Widescreen MBP for quite some time now. Supposedly, it was supposed to have come out late last year, but they pushed it back to wait for the next-gen processor to help with heat and battery life. Could this be the Montevina line that is coming out at the end of this month? You never know!!

The 12" MacBook Pro has been supplanted by the Air. Get used to it.

Actually, I think this is the new MacBook case... NOT THE PRO. The proportions just don't look right for a 15" or 17" wide screen. It looks more like a 13" to me. Also, the existing MB already has a customer accessible HD so that would carry over. And then the non backlit Apple logo would make a lot of sense. They'll follow the look of the current Imacs with the chrome Apple logo inset in the Aluminum.

They say it is from the soda cans we are all addicted to.

Warren Buffett doesn't have Alzheimers yet!

Then again, he's so rich, maybe he paid for a cure that isn't availabe to the public.

That's what I said the last time this popped up. Minus the non backlit logo bit. It really doesn't look big enough to be a Pro, and it would make sense that they move the MB line to aluminum. However, I don't see them getting rid of the logo, unless they do something like with the iMac and have a black logo and change the keyboard to black. If they do that, I won't be too happy and will probably shop for a used white MB..

Am I the only one who can't make heads or tails of the picture?

In the bottom half of the picture, I see the bottom of the notebook, with the two rubber feet.

I don't understand the picture where the watermark is in the middle. It looks as if the screen is connected at an angle and is overhanging the bottom of the notebook covering the other two rubber feet and where the new battery supposedly is.

Is the whitish/silverish piece to the right of the picture related?

Sorry, I must be dense!

As long as the ram and HD are easy to get to, and they do something about the heat, it will be a good update

The bottom is missing the battery. The two pieces are not connected.

I would love to see the following changes in the next MacBook Pro redesign:

1.) Numerical Keypad
2.) Longer battery life
3.) Dual Hard Dirve for Raid 0 like the dell notebooks "most likely not to happen in order to keep the macbook pro thin.

4.) 6gb or 8gb of ram option
5.) BluRay Drive
6.) Black keyboard with black trim around LED backlit screen
7.) A 20" model... okay just kidding on this one :)

That single latch better be some super latch. I don't want that battery to be flimsy. Also, if the battery is right at the back I wonder where they are putting the vents now. I would think the thickness of the battery would impede the functioning of the vents too much.

I believe the CPU, GPU, chipset and heatsink are located where the new battery is to be placed. Perhaps they are going to relocated those components to the lower-left corner where the battery current is an place the vent on the lower-left side. The problem is that it'll probably make for a hot palm rest.

Hopefully black aluminum will be on option......maybe even leather or carbon fiber trim!!

the top and bottom of the cases are sitting on a box. they are slightly overlapping each other, and not connected to each other. the bottom case ends abruptly and is only 3/4 the height of the top part of the case. the "missing" area is where the battery is supposed to be.

Relocating the battery to the rear means no more toasty legs while using the MBP on the lap and lower operating temperatures (battery is closer to the vents at the rear) :)

Don't know about anyone else but the battery is the coolest area on the bottom of my MBP at the moment, and I'm playing a YouTube video
