Actually I think most people waiting for a Mac mini update would be perfectly fine with a small CPU upgrade, a bigger hard drive, superdrive even on the low-end, nVidia 9400M GPU, max of 4GB RAM, FireWire 800 (or even still FW400), all in the same old casing. Top plastic cover in black even optionnal if you ask me. The white top matches the keys of the aluminium keyboards.

That would be almost perfect for me.
I'd like a 3,5" hard disk drive....then I'd put a 2tb WD GreenPower in the Mini....
Maybe this is achievable using a 20cmx20cm case...(like Time Capsule)..

Ah, no. I want a full-on case change. I want tapers, I want black plastic. I want narrow IR slit.

You still didn't answer my question - if it's not for TV, why does apple include front row and a remote?

dorm room - student with not too much money - $600 machine plus $300 tops 24-26inch LCD == PIMP set up for a dorm.... and most rooms... TV is a tossed around idea, Displays show media to people, TVs specificly for a long time displayed over air television... we started hooking other things to TVs, since they did not come over air... however when you start digitizing everything, what television element remains? this is a trend of computer based media, DVD/InternetMedia/etc

You may say "but my LCD tv" I say, it is an LCD Display... just like the box said

To those wanting HDMI - it is called a converter cord - 4 bucks on newegg, DVI IS HDMI just no sound, run one more cable, how hard is it? Oh you are a home theatre person and can't have more than one cable? Then you need to not buy a mac mini and go for something else.

Happy Apple User,
I personally think as stated by others, this is a prototype, I think they have no need to give away more than needed on prototypes, so a new case for example or different color, never needed to leave the lab. This could have been a sample that got 'tossed' and made it's way home.

on another note, I hope they keep the shape capable of stacking, makes for easy cluster computing that way.

 nothing wrong with how it is cept for the obvious old tech inside of course , if they were to just put the current macbook internals in that would be fine and we could all go buy one, because you know what? it'd work like a decent computer ...what more do you need ?????

really I don't care what it looks like as long as it will run OS X legally.

All you folks with the I want a thinner Mini or want a black plastic one lol I guess you where the guys who paid extra for the black macbook.

fashion victims imo

Now that I think about it, I'd only buy that if I had a little extra money and I suspect the specs to be a little different.
It will most likely have a new body, relate to the way the MacBooks are, and will not be photoshopped...

Put aside, for the moment, the issues of OS and case form factor. Had a customer who needed a new computer the other day. Had a monitor. Just needed the cpu. The Mac Pro was $2K more than he wanted to spend, didn't want the iMac cause he already had a nice 24" monitor. Showed him the Mini. Wanted more power and expandability.

For the price of the mini he got a Gateway instead. Quad core, 8GB memory, 640GB HD, Nivida 120 video 1GB, TV tuner & HDMI, 2 firewire & 6 USB. $700.

Don't know, why somebody would spend their time modifying a mini.

But, strategically it would make sense that Apple leaves a CHEAP entry model around for switchers and students.

Same concept as somebody posted with the plastic remaining white Macbook. That model would only get modest "under the hood" and case adjustments"

If Apple updates the mini with the video shown, it would be so weak that people would laugh:)

Hoping to see an elegant unibody mini in a flat different shape. They could use the 13" aluminum Macbook base as a chassis and fill it up with all the options.

Two versions and make the $ 799 version a combo of apple TV and mini. What a killer machine:)

PS: I am still puzzled of apple's lack of using the 500GB Mini Western Digital Hard drives. These are cheap if bought in the millions and have now been out for quite a while.

I would buy two or three. That people may laugh as I do so doesn't bother me.

I should clarify that it would need not only to be as shown, but as described. In particular, C2D (not Atom) and GeForce 9400M (not something like x3100).

I don't see why they would use atom/ion, the Atom is much much much slower than even a Core 2 Duo..it'd be stupid of Apple.

I don’t see Apple to use a top graphic card or dual DVI output on Mac mini. It is just not the type of machine. For the same reason I also don’t see a top series processor on it. But I also hope not for a very basic processor like Atom. This will kill Mini’s desktop capabilities. A core2duo slightly worse than those on iMac seems a good choice.

Ports most probably will be the same for all Mini’s versions. We are going to see mini-display port or standard DVI port (I really doubt about mini-DVI), Firewirwe 800 , 4 or 5 USB ports and I hope for HDMI too, common to all versions.

it's a fake

it's a fake!!!!

Sure this person managed to video tape the actual case of the mini but this person is forgetting to show the most important part to seal the deal.

This person forgot to show the mac mini running with the power on!!!!!! Anybody could have modified a previous mini. I don't think it's real because I strongly believe Apple would have made the case SMALLER!!!!
