Since these photos don't show the front, I'm wondering if you are somehow looking at different photos.

Perhaps he's got the Paula Abdul syndrome.

If the back needs to be plastic for the antenna, then how is it that wifi works in my MacBook Pro? It's ALL aluminum. And don't tell me the antenna is behind the display - because it could be behind the iPhone's display if that worked.

And don't tell me it doesn't block wifi and only blocks cell phone reception, because if that were true then the iPod touch wouldn't need the plastic part.

I really want to know.

Umm...

So when you are talking on the phone, you want Apple to be sending signals through your brain?

Phones have (should have) shielding that prevent the signals from going through your head (i.e. the display). Also, your Laptop is not trying to communicate with GSM towers miles away. It only needs to communicate with short distance WiFi networks.

That being said, this is still possible. This back does not have to be metallic.

Hooray! I got the original phone the day it came out, and I couldn't bring myself to upgrade to the 3G when my phone was working fine. However, my phone is now old enough that I won't feel guilty about getting the next generation.

Right now I'm hoping for (as many of you are) copy and paste and 32 GB. Make it happen!

Wirelessly posted (iPhone: Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 2_2_1 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/525.18.1 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/3.1.1 Mobile/5H11 Safari/525.20)

This looks real but you never know with photos like this. We will have to wait and see.

This would suck

This would disappoint me a lot. It means we're going to get stuck with the same stupid camera. Seriously? I actually like using the camera quite often and would love a 3 or 4 MP autofocus lens. Also, video recording to go with that.

And if that's all they do is change the back panel to a different material, and make it a mm thinner, and give it slightly better battery life, I'm going to seriously be pissed off!! None of those things would make it a better iPhone and it would be a waste of an upgrade.

Hardware details to focus on:
- Better battery
- Better camera
- Higher resolution screen
- More Ram so that Safari doesn't crash while I'm listening to music
- Better antenna for better reception
- Haptic feedback

And not to mention the slew of software features that still need to be implemented. I still have the first gen iPhone and I'm thinking I might still be using it for quite a long time.

Let's hope for a price drop at least. CDMA is probably not in the air especially as even parts of North America are leaning towards GSM..

On the hardware it really needs a flash. Doesn't look like it there, unless it has some snazzy configuration.

This - sadly - looks genuine.

With WMC, the Pre and the 3-4Q Android phones coming from Samsung and HTC, this has a lot to compete with and needs to appeal to new users.

I only hope it does have a flash and improved camera.

Does anyone else see milling/machining marks in the middle of the inside shot? Milling the new back out of a single block of alOOOOmineeeeeeUm?

Yeah, that's what I thought too. Methinks it's a prototype, as the machining marks would usually be buffed out on production models (even tho they don't show on the outside--it's just considered good tool and die practices).

What if the apple logo not only lit up during calls, but also doubled as a flash for the camera??? Now that would be sweet.

This Is Just A Replacement Housing!

Oh comon- this is the same thing as with the rumored pink iphone. This is just a 3rd party replacment housing in matte black. Compare it to other replacement housings (on ebay), the molding is exactly the same as for the current 3G iphone.

16GB...if true I would imagine a further price drop unless they have something else up their sleeve.

Two models? A 16gb and a 32gb?

Man, it seems like just yesterday that I was huddled outside the AT&T store at 2 a.m., trying to stay warm in the freezing rain, thinking about my upcoming iPhone 3G. Guess I'll be doing it all over in June...

There was freezing rain in July?

I have would guess that the picture of the inside view is not the new iPhone. I compared the pic to the ifixit photo of the iPhone 3G tear down and they look to be the same. Wouldn't the new components be moved around, etc. How many times are new parts plug and play on a device like this. Are they not smaller/different shape, etc.

The Matte finish would be a welcome addition.

Oh yeah, I also see mill marks on this production back from the tear down.

There was freezing rain in July?

Yes, in Arizona and it was cold and rainy (not freezing in terms of below 32F), but you get the point.

May have been said before but… that's plastic, not aluminum or metal. Pretty sure, anyway.

To the right of the QR code is a round raised area. Very very very very common when molding plastics. Go open up any other consumer electronics device with a plastic housing, and you'll see at least one.

I'm sure there's a technical name/purpose for it…

Anyway, of course I hope I'm wrong. ;)

Hi

This looks a little dodgy to me

the text on my iPhone and iPHone 3G is

Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China

but here it is...

Designed by Apple In California Assembled In China.

I hope I am wrong but it looks alot like this fake

FCC ID: BCGA1303A doesn't exist at this time on their website but I dont know if they would put it up this early.

Didn't they switch to glossy plastic so the iPhone would have better signal reception?

My buddy "in the know" sent me the specs, looks pretty nice.

I ...I...I'd buy it. lol. Seriously I was/am hoping for 64gb, but know that I'll likely have 32... It's a shame that when I finally get a device worth watching movies on, I don't have enough space to carry the collection. Looks like I'll still need to be selective over my choice of movies...

Of course, MMS/Video Capture would make me quite happy I waiting until the third version to buy.

i would love the anti slip... :) i can see those being real

Maybe that is where the antenna will be placed? Same principle as the MBPs... Either that or though the screen.

Would a stronger antenna work?

Size measurements

I compared the ratio of width and some other features of the phone between the leaked-or-fake image and my current iPhone 3G:
The camera hole, the Apple logo and the "iPhone" word all appear to be approximately 7.5% larger compared to the iPhone 3G.

Since we can assume that the dimensions of the camera hole and other signs/text would be the same as on the current generation phone, I would speculate that the leaked-or-fake case is actually SMALLER than that of the iPhone 3G. Approximately 93% of the current size. In millimeters, I would guess that case on the photo is about 56.5 mm wide versus the 61 mm of the iPhone 3G. Also, the width/height ratio seems to be the same as now, so I'd assume that the case is shorter too.
