If this dosen't have major hardware changes then I am not wasting my money on this crap(Not spending 400$ for the same phone with mostly the same hardware for an "aluminium" finish). Honestly if this phone does not get a better camera and stuff then f it, it's not worth it. Get real apple.

That definitely does NOT look like metal - it's plastic. Hence the framing on the inside of it.

Wouldn't surprise me if this is the new back. Makes me all tingly inside.

If it didn't drain the battery and only came on during calls that'd be great.

Like all Mac notebooks from the last decade, I assume they'd use the lcd backlight to light the apple logo, which wouldn't consume any more power, because it would only be on when the screen is illuminated.

Hopefully, it could act like a flash similar to how displays act like a flash for the isight camera on most macs. The display would flash a white screen at full brightness to act like a flash. The iPhone wouldn't require the white screen, as the logo is on the opposite side as the panel, but even the logo flashing at full screen brightness would make a huge difference in low light photos.

However, I really wouldn't expect this feature. It's my understanding that there are a lot of electronics between the display and the Apple logo on the iPhone.

G-dmm it! They are sticking with the crappy plastic?

Explain to me, why Apple went away from the white and black plastics on the Macbook to aluminun to make them more 'solid' ... but then moved FROM an aluminum iPhone to the plastic!!?!?!?

Guess what, the plastic iPhones starting showing cracks! I loved the original iphone with it's sturdy aluminum casing - BRING IT BACK!

because metal blocks the cell phone and wifi signals.

I'm hoping that this isn't the only flavor. I still love the glossy back (though I prefer that matte) and matte would not sell at all in Asia. Here's my dream that will never, ever happen. Apple decides to ship the phone with multiple back-plates. It'll have a removable battery cover and it would ship with a matte black, glossy black, and glossy plastic back-plates. Then sell different color backs at the Apple Store and allow 3rd party plates. That way the phone could have a professional, clean look that'll appeal towards business users or you can have it be more fun, bright, young, and customized look to appeal towards teens and young adults.

:apple:

MHM !!! hate the glossy back, feels greasy and get many scratches, me would love that iphone !

You might get one if you help me stop the strange trend that is to type a space at the end of a sentence before an exclamation-mark (or a question-mark for that matter). ;)

My buddy just sent this to me. Since they are going with a new all metal backing, new antenna will be "telescoping" but will no longer be offered as a standard feature on the iphone so as to keep iphone pricing competitive. The new revolutionary antenna will be available for an additional charge of $39.95. Apple feels offering these selling points offer the consumer the best that apple can offer but at a price that doesn't break the budget. YEAH!!! Can't wait. Totally gonna happen and have pics to prove it. They say with the new antenna, safari will be much "snappier". There is already a market of accessories sprouting up for the "i-tenna"

I like the matte back, but I'm more curious about the hardware running it. The next-gen ARM chips seem pretty cool. Perhaps we will start seeing the results of Apple's PA Semi acquisition?

Cool, cool...I've been really wanting to get an iPhone and have been waiting for the next gen...I finally got out of my verizon contract and am going month to month now until I get an iPhone, which means I had to resist the temptation of upgrading to a new phone for free. Sorry Verizon. It's hard waiting. Especially because I am OCD about germs (not just saying that, I actually have OCD), and I dropped my current phone in the toilet and cleaned it off with alcohol many times and still use it, so it would be tempting to get a free phone from verizon to avoid using the toilet phone, but I am strong, I can wait...

On all previous phones I had, a flash was absolutely useless.

Because the iPhone's camera is completely useless in low light conditions without one. I've seen pictures taken from a friend's newer Blackjack (? not sure of the exact model) with LED flash. At close distances, the pictures do come out. But why stop there? Some camera phones (Motorola ZN5) have close to full blown flashes on them.

It would be unforgivable for Apple not to improve some aspect of the built-in camera given what other competitors in the iPhone's price bracket offer.

Apple better have gotten it right with the iPhone this time around if they're this close to production.

That means they need to add more file space, more system memory, an even higher resolution screen and better battery life.

If not.. they're gonna fail, hard. Apple has had plenty of time to listen and study the success and shortcomings of the iPhone for a while now.

A lack of a flash and a significantly bigger lens would make me cry :-(

Looks nicer otherwise. It seems a little less tapered to me too, which would be nice.

Phazer

Composite Ceramic?

Ah come on, we need to see the most important view: the top. I personally disliked the fat, curved taper of the 3g. Hopefully, the new one's thinner than the first gen.

That would be the greatest indicator as to what the new features will arrive with the new iPhone. I'd love to hear what that repairman from ifixit has to say about the internal case's moldings.

As for the material, it may be a composite with Apple's patented ceramic for better reception, or just better antennas.

Actually I dont care matte or shiny back... Still looks fat... If is it the new iPhone I cant never buy... When will be iPhone thin just like iPod Touch 2G I can buy then....

Right...

failing all the way to the bank after they sell 30 million of them this year...

When are people going to realize that its not about specs, it's about ease of use....
