Regarding the numbering, why would they call it iPhone # at all? They are clearly trying to move away from the numbering of their products. There isn't a MacBook Pro 5, or an iPod 8, or Mac Mini 3. It makes no sense especially when you have someone walking around with a 2 year old phone (that really isn't that old) yet it's 3 "numbers" behind.

The product leaks, I could see it being controlled leaks, not sure why though. Maybe to take away from the announcements of other products, maybe to eliminate disappointment (people expecting a radical redesign then they get what appears to be minor changes). But the fact that up until the 4S, the biggest "leak" was some idiot left a phone at a bar. Now we see Photos, parts, schematics, blueprints... and to multiple media outlets, not just one. Cant be that once Steve is out of the picture, security goes down the drain.

Speaking of... I haven't seen the "Steve wouldn't have allowed these parts to get loose in the wild" post yet... you guys are slacking.

Actually, if the new iPhone is essentially the same as what has been leaked here, even more people are going to cry.

But then again, there are a lot of crybabies on this forum. And I mean a lot.

:) :p :D

Actually no, I kinda like the look. Subtle changes are better in my opinion. Look at Porsche, Mercedes, BMW, Rolex, Tag, Panerai... You rarely see drastic changes from one generation to the next, sometimes barely noticeable; It's a good looking phone. It's a little bigger (supposedly 16:9 ratio), thinner, a little sleeker. I dont want it to look like the new Galaxy (Which is a nice phone, but i like the iPhone look). Also I'm not a fan of the huge phablets. I prefer something I can carry in my pocket and not have to rest on the table when I'm out to lunch.

Yup. The people on this forum seem largely incapable of counting to 6 and realizing this is the 6TH GENERATION iPHONE

Actually id say its the 3.8TH generation,

1st Gen = iPhone
2nd Gen = iPhone 3G and the speedbumped 3Gs
3rd Gen = iPhone 4 and the 3.5 gen speedbumped iPhone 4s
4th Gen = iPhone "tall"

:D

All We Are Saying........

Can't we get all these parts rumor mongers together in the same room so they can put one of these together? Enough of this rugged individualist see what I got crap. Put your parts on the table and give iPhone 6 a chance.

2010 iphone named: iphone 4 (because it would be dumb to call it iphone 5,6,7,8 or anything else.)
Instead of saying why they didn't call it anything else (not to mention "dumb" isn't a valid reason on its own), why don't you tell us why they DID call it the iPhone 4, if not by its generation number?

3G - 3GS, 4 - 4S, more likely to be called the iPhone 5.
Actually, if it was iPhone 3 - 3S, 4 - 4S, you might have a point. You do notice the "G" there after the 3, right? That means the 3 being before the 4 is purely coincidental, not a numerical progression.

Apple will almost certainly not call it the iPhone 5. Everyone thought it was going to be the iPhone 5 last year, just like they thought so this year (how long will this last btw? If they call this one "the new iPhone" or "iPhone LTE" will people still be talking about the upcoming "iPhone 5" next year?)

I don't understand why everyone is so hung up on the number. Who says the number corresponds to the actual, unique device? Obviously not Apple since they called the iPhone 4S the 4S instead of the 5. It's pretty apparent that the first iphone wasn't consdiered the iPhone 1, the second was not the iPhone 2, etc... so why does everyone who touts this being called the iPhone 6 have that argument? Where's the logic?

To me, it appears the number appended to the end of the word iPhone does not indicate it's number as a specifically uniquely produced device but more lends itself to the "generation" that it belongs to. i.e. the iphone 4 and iphone 4s are both "4th generation" iphones.

That seems to make more sense than blatently (and incorrectly) assigning a unique number to each individual iphone that has come out ever... that has never seemed to be the intent of Apple.

Then i'd suggest you go get the Siii now and don't be one of those people who start whining when it's announced. We all know apple won't make a 4.5"+ screen just because samesung does it.

Wear a diper on Sep 12th so you don't wet yourself fanboi.

The logic is that Apple has only put a number by itself after the product name when referring to the generation of the device. iPad 2 (the 2nd generation iPad) and iPhone 4 (the 4th generation iPhone).

If you categorize the 4 and 4S together as the same "generation", then one might also argue that the first 3 iPhones could be in the same generation as well since they all had the same form factors, meaning the iPhone 4 and 4S are actually the second generation. So, from that standpoint, it should have been called the iPhone 2, right?

Remember though, Apple will be entering a new market with the TV, hence they will have no problem announcing it 6 months early, just like they did with the first iPhone and the first iPad.

The iPhone was announced early because it had to get certified by the FCC. The iPad was
announced a few months early to give developers a head start. If the TV has a sdk for developers it might be announced a couple months early; if not they will announce it when it's ready.

And we're still calling it the iPhone 5 huh?

iPhone 5 is a name. They could just as easily call it iPhone 934. The current model is iPhone 4s, it may be the 5th version. That has nothing to do with the name.

Windows 7 is not the 7th version of Windows. It isn't even the 7th release of the NT code base version.... that is what its name is.

The same way that apple won't make a 4.0" screen because the 3.5" is " just right" ?
I truly wonder what your argument will be in a couple of years when apple introduce a wide also 4.3"-4.5" iPhone.

aight, need I point out that the dude asking for a sgsiii sized iphone will be disappointed?
I simply stated a soon-to-be-true fact that these leaks are the actual phone.

So much for that "doubling down" on secrecy. Seriously, people need to come to terms with the fact that this will be the next iPhone. There is no smoke and mirrors by Apple while they hide away some secret iPhone that will "wow" us at the event. This same thing happened with both the iPhone 4 and the iPhone 4S. We kept getting leaks for both of those phones, but people kept shouting "fake" and "controlled leak" because they thought Apple had a secret iPhone.

Although the time seems right for a new significant redesign (aka "secret iPhone"). Samsung is getting way too close for comfort, in my opinion. But alas, the more these leaks keep on coming, the more I'm starting to believe this is it. (and the more I'm starting to secretly like what I see - I might harm myself some day soon :().

Of course because Samsung will need time to copy.

Cool. I have a Skyrocket in addition to the iPhone. The screen is 4.5" - and it just as easily flts in my pocket as my iPhone 4. The note, for me - I think would be too big and a "phablet" as you call it. But 4.5 - not bad at all. I will say now that as nice as the iPhone 4 screen might be - I'm not spoiled by the larger screen. When I look at my iPhone 4 screen now it's tiny and hard to read (size of text).

People adapt to change. Just like people have gone from thinking Mono was enough - to stereo - and now 5.1/7.1, etc.

People with gripe no matter what - but it's short lived. If Apple produced a phone that was 4.5 inches - people would balk - but it would still likely be the best selling phone to date and people would wonder how they ever lived before with the smaller screen. Just like when "retina" was introduced on the iPhone and even though people thought older models had a great screen - the new screen made them unable to look at their old iPhones.

I do not understand the point of all these leaks. WIth this much information and images leaked, just show the entire phone put together already.

This is NOT a hoax phone either - too much genuine parts to be a real hoax. It's not bad PR for apple in regards to these leaks because this just gets everyone wet for sept 12.

I just don't see the point of leaking these parts piece by piece; it's like a strip tease but split into weeks at a time.

Could be one of 2 things:
1) Maximize hits to the site
2) They are only getting a few parts at any one time (perhaps from different sources). So should they wait until they have an entire phone in hand before revealing the case they got in several weeks ago? I think not.

Totally agree. This will be known as the "Late 2012 iPhone" just like the iPad 3 is now the "Early 2012 iPad". All of Apple's products should share the same naming convention. Isn't it amazing how Apple can make good marketing decisions without Steve? lol...

Let it be known...
