I fully expect uncle Timmy to be 'super excited' again about the camera, I mean just how much better can the camera be after a while.

If apple (or any other company for that matter) really cared about the environment then they wouldn't bring out new products each and every year with such small improvements.

They would also provide an easy way to change the battery.

I get that many want their new toys, I also like my new toys. But how we went from having products that lasted many years to craving new ones every year is astounding. I am as guilty as the next person. Like many I believe that passing on my old phone to someone else somehow absolves me of any guilt. The cold truth is that if I had to keep my iPhone for longer because there wasn't a new one, the person I was passing my iPhone to would also keep their phone and so on.

This won't be a popular opinion, I get that.

I could do without the forced excitement, "best iPhone ever" (duh), and "we think you're gonna love it" (we often don't but what can we do). Worse, it's like every single presenter is forced to recite the same scripted talking points, regardless if they're engineers, marketers, or guest app devs.

Sure they care about the environment, as an EOY KPI checkmark. Solar and aluminium recycling are good steps. But on user level it boils down to removing useful features and components that the user needs to invest even more to continue using (in the form of adapters, dongles etc).

But next year there’ll be even less of a need for touch id as we likely wont be wearing any masks by then!

Emphasis on "likely"...

Seriously, some people complaining that it will be “boring” (that’s the word they use, not useful or whatever) and all they want is USB-C. LOL, what an exciting thing, a different conector, instead of actual features. Hopefully this debate will be over next year, with a portless iPhone, just like the minijack.

About Touch ID, I don’t think Apple would change such a key feature for a temporary situation. Of course they won’t include redundant ways to unlock - either Touch ID or Face ID. You always want to optimise internal space, and many ones here don’t realise that including a fingerprint sensor must have downsides, like smaller battery. And Face ID is more future-proof and will enable more things than Touch ID, because of the simple fact that it’s a passive detection (i.e. you can hide notifications on the lockscreen).

Don't forget, they are removing the charging brick and headphones while also charging the same prices! Not hating as I love Apple products, but removing those things and not lowering the price is some BS.

The price would go down so little given how cheap these accessories are that it wouldn’t make much of a difference overall.

Yeah I get that but its still saving Apple money by not including them and the savings should be passed on to the consumer.

Apple probably thinks the money is better in their pocket 😛. To be fair, the inclusion of headphones and a charger brick has been redundant for many years now. Mine all sit in the box doing nothing so they bring no value to me anyway.

They wont go down at all, [how much would they if they did...$2-3 at most based on what they really cost Apple] we all know that. The seperate purchase costs will be as extortinate as ever as well.

5G won’t drain battery faster unless it’s used, which won’t be the case for most people. And the phone will only use 5G, even when available, if it detects that additional bandwidth is needed.

Phones have been doing this since the 3G network, it's called fallback. In the early days you set your phone to 3G but it used it for data only, when you made a phone call it switched to 2G cause at the time 3G didn't have voice protocols. Same thing has happened with 4G before volte took over, your iPhone was on 4G until you receive a voice call when it switched to 3G.

What you are suggesting is that iPhone would somehow know how to upgrade to network which is possible but not seamless as fallback. It's definitely possible but there are two fundamental problems with it: a) phone doesn't know for how long you as a user would be using your phone in 5G and that introduces problem b) there is no seamless switching from 3G to 4G to 5G networks (it's only seamless when you are going down), modem has to disconnect from network, track network, connect to network and boost antenna's performance to build up reception and that alone is the biggest hit on the battery modem can do. Unfortunately phone itself can't be on 5G protocol and decide to fallback to 4G just cause it wants to or because there is no large amount of data using the bandwidth like you are implying. It will only fall back if there is a super poor reception while antenna's boost is maxed out without any reception improvement or technology protocol that exists on 4G is not yet implemented in 5G (which would be the rare case).

Biggest hit on your battery is poor reception and antennas boosting into oblivion. If you have a poor 5G reception in your house downgrade your phone to 4G/3G/GSM cause it's killing your battery. If you have a poor 4G reception in your house or office but very good 5G reception leave your phone in 5G/4G/3G/GSM order.

The connector IS an actual feature, and goes a long way into full product alignment (not to mention user convenience) between the Mac, iPad and iPhone. A port-less iPhone sounds like the REAL gimmick, and will be as disastrous as the 2016 MacBook "Pro". All it does is inconvenience the end user and doesn't sound too efficient in the way of saving internal space either. Besides, Qi charging is still slow and cumbersome and what users need is fast charging.

Since you mentioned features: all "they" want is dual authentication, smaller or no notch, ProMotion display, and who knows, maybe finally some "one more thing" we haven't even thought of yet.

What's wrong if apple gives additional choice like TouchID, less secure but less frustrating.

nothing wrong with that it’ll just make the product more complex and more expensive. It would also result in less security for those who use touch id instead of Face ID.

To the people that want TouchID in the power button, do you use a case? It wouldn't work with any case that has anything covering the power button.

You might not use a case but I think a majority of people do and Apple realizes this. They also like the revenue from their overpriced cases in their stores.

Yeah thats incorrect. They implemented Touch ID into the new iPad Air and that was developed Pre-Covid. So they obviously see a need for it.

Secondly, I didn’t say I minded the notch. But a smaller one or no notch at all would be nice.
I think apple may use iPad Air power button TouchID in next iPhone SE plus 5G 2021.

Yeah there’s a chance of that for sure if they can’t yet get Face ID down to the SE price point. Or they might be manoeuvring the so-called 12 mini into the SE position.

You’ll never be upgrading again then 😜

Well, if you compound all the updates made in 4 years, then it's a compelling upgrade. Like e.g. if you're still using an iPhone 8. As it is though? Nah

Thing is, instead of 4 years, Apple of the olden days would have offered these updates in two.

I'm gonna half agree with that. Apple only started shipping the 18W usb-c fast charger with 11 Pro, and if there's something everybody needs nowadays is fast charging. That would bring a lot of value to a lot of people.
