I wish Apple would sell faux leather cases. I have a faux leather apple watch band from ali express and it still looks great while my legit one fell apart from humidity. I also have the leather case for my old iPhone 7 and i dont like the worn out look it gets after a month of usage. Stupid me also bought it for the Xs Max expecting something different and again it started to look worn out. On top of that, the volume buttons are unevenly stuck in the case so every time i want to turn up the volume, it does it all the way.

BTW my other original Apple case isn’t doing much better:

Eh? That makes no sense, why would Apple not allow XR owners to get Leather cases? I know a lot of people who own XR because they felt the 6.5inch Max is too big and 5.8inch is too small.

My manager has an XR and loves hers to bits.
I know, they make them for the standard 11. Which must mean they have since realised the error of their ways, though it still doesn’t help those of us who own the XR.

Apple does not make leather cases for the 11 only 11 pro and pro max. But they make a leather case for their entry level $400 phone. It’s very frustrating

Maybe it was the SE I was thinking of then and not the 11.
Apologies, I remember seeing them available for a cheaper phone but really thought it was the 11.

lol, this makes no sense at all
Guess it can be filed as just one of those other Apple quirks.
It is very frustrating as I have the 11. I wonder if the new iPhone 12 pro cases will work in the 11’s. As the new 12 pro is also a 6.1in display

I’m hoping Apple makes a leather case for the 12. I’m all in on that model once it launches, but I may not be as quick to buy if they don’t make a leather case. Either that or hopefully vaja makes a nice one for the 12.

I would guess no considering the change in the shape of the phone (squared edges vs. the rounded edges of the 11 series).

After following this thread for a while, I got really interested of purchasing the Saddle Brown case for my iPhone 8. Interestingly, it seems that I got mine on the last moment, 'cos Apple has stopped selling them and so have 99% of the retailers here in Finland. But I got one! :D It seems that my brand new saddle brown case has started the patina process all on its own as it has those white stripes and that blackish brown hue going on. Can't wait to take a progress pic at some point :)

I did that to my saddle brown case and it doesn’t have the same natural patina look to some of the other cases I’ve seen. Mine has a weird worn look to it, almost stained. Your case came out nice though. I guess it depends on how the aging process (sanding, oil and sun drying) is done.

Edit: The three cases I rotate. The top left is my second saddle brown case that I purchased after dropping my launch day saddle brown case into what I think was bum urine (I work closely with law enforcement). That’s the case I sanded, sun-dried and hit with Smith’s leather balm. It just looks stained and not aged. The second case (middle) is the case I purchased about a month ago when Verizon ran a sale and used it daily for about 28 days. The third case (Red leather) I purchased back in February 2020 and used it for a full 75 days before swapping it to my black Apple leather case which I didn’t take a pic of. No need, it’s a black leather case and doesn’t have any noticeable patina. I tried using different lighting and backgrounds, but the picture still shows the cases a lot lighter than in person. In person the cases are a lot darker.

I personally love the natural aging process foe these leather cases. I can’t stand how sticky they feel after using oil treatment.

How are you guys managing your leather cases in terms of COVID-19? How do you clean them?

With my Silicone case I would just sanitize it but I am agree if that the alcohol in the sanitizer will ruin the leather

Regular hand washing and keeping my phone in my pocket or edc bag takes care of that. Also, I frequently wipe down any surface I come in contact with. I use Lysol bleach wipes or isopropyl alcohol on surfaces I put my hands on, but I never set my phone down on any surface outside of my house.

Thanks a lot!

Think I’ll need to get more wipes. The problem is that when I do grocery shopping I use Notes to keep up and mark my list as I go.

Think I may need to just switch between the silicone case and leather case. Silicone case when going out and then leather case when at home.

I’ll see.

I used to use notes when grocery shopping, but I haven’t been to the grocery stores in months. Since February I believe. In late February or early March I started using delivery services and now I do curbside pick up from my local grocery store. Lead time is just a few days out for curbside which is way better than when the pandemic first started and our city went on lockdown. Lead time was weeks at a time so I started using delivery services like shipt, instacart and for my parents favor.

Your idea of switching cases for grocery shopping is a really good idea though. That way you can disinfect the silicone case and use the leather case when you’re not out in public.
