Leather Cases - Patina Proud Photos

In 2011 scientists at London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine found one in six mobile phones were contaminated with faecal matter, including the E. coli bugs which can cause food poisoning and stomach bugs.

The latest study in 2018 looked at 50 phones, recording the highest bacteria reading for a smartphone in a leather case, which was also a wallet, and showed up almost 17 times the amount of bacteria on a toilet seat.


(The average for a plastic case was 1,454, which is almost seven times the reading for toilet seat germs.)

Given everything that’s going on in the world, I went with a silicone case purely for ease of cleaning it as I work in a hospital.

If I had to choose brand new, I’d say the Nomad feels/looks more modern and luxurious.

Two big differences so far. 1) Nomad isn’t leather all the way around, it’s only on the back. This gives a little more grip but doesn’t give you that all leather feel. 2) The buttons aren’t metal, they are integrated into the same material as the edges. This means they’re not quite as distinct or responsive as the Apple buttons are.

All in all, both cases are worthy. I planned to order them both and return the one I didn’t like, but I’m going to keep both.

Can you please measure the width of the nomad? In past years they’ve added a lot of bulk to the phone and I can’t take anymore heft on this monster 12 Pro Max.

Any related studies showing data that actually makes people sick? Link to your study or anything more recent that isn’t pubmed showing parts per million that’s actually harmful? Fecal E. coli is on everything, EVERYTHING we come in contact with on a daily basis all the way down to your toothbrush that’s sitting on your bathroom sink. Right next to that glorious toilet you take a dump in. 😉

These are things that I deal with on a daily basis because of my line of work. And, I’m not in the medical field, but I assist first responders on a daily basis.

Agreed. They really hit the mark with the green leather case last. So rich looking and such great texture. Truly one of the hits.

Has anyone noticed that this years leather cases are much more resilient to scratches? I didn’t have the iPhone 11 but the two I had for the XS were easily scratched and chipped with my nails for example.

Nope got a gouge within a week and that was despite me being careful...the leather imo is almost too soft.

I will say that on my wife’s 12P the leather one after one week looks better than the silicone did after 1 week. And she’s not exactly careful with her cases 😂.

Same happened to me yesterday, I was wearing a pair of indigo jeans. But this is just colour transfer, it’s normal behaviour with dyed jeans. Some will transfer colour more than others, depending on a variety of factors. Obviously it wouldn’t be this noticeable on dark colours.
I wiped my case with a damp cloth and some gentle soap, it looks like new again. To avoid this, I will just use the blue leather case now when wearing dyed jeans. It’s just matter of taking care of the case as anything else imo :)

I was indecisive as to what case out of those two I should get but then I found out that the Nomad case wasn't leather all around and the buttons weren't as clicky as Apple's case so this year I went for the Apple case in saddle brown. Will post pictures when it arrives.

I got the saddle brown Apple case and I do like it especially since its fully covered around the case. I actually prefer having the bottom covered instead of the open section like some other cases (Decoded / Senna).

That was another deal breaker for me. The Nomad has symmetrical cutouts on the bottom while the Apple case covers the whole bottom of the phone. Also, taking into account shipping, the Nomad case would end up costing me more.
 
Man, the grip on this Apple leather case is fantastic. I’m not sure if it’s a different leather, or just the new squared edges, but it’s much grippier than my old 11 PM leather case.
