I gotta say the longer I have this black leather case on the more I like it. It seems to get more soft as time goes on and being the weirdo that I am, I just took a sniff before starting this post and it’s got a very subtle, yet nice leather smell to it.

I’ll try out the Nomad when it gets here but I’d be surprised if it ended up feeling better than this case.
What's the hold up? Getting magsafe case?

The apple case is still a awesome case, you’ll notice the case will get a lot easier to take off the phone after a short period of time, also might notice the bottom part of the phone push up a little out of the case, not a big issue.

Think I’ll stick with my Baltic blue and deep navy silicone cases for a while. Always liked the size and fit you get from apple cases.
Ok budattack :)

Just received my Bourbon Bullstrap for 12PM! Love it! The leather is great, buttons click very well and it’s also slim! Highly recommended.

The nomad leather scratches very easily, even light finger nail will do it, it will handle more water than apples with the PVC sides with wet hands, obviously shouldn't get back soaking wet lol. On the nomad site they have a before and after 100 days slider you can see the difference.
Here is mine after a month no protection i would just leave it. nomad sell leather protection though so...

Same here. My brown Nomad after a little over a month of use.

I ordered mine 7 days ago. Shipping is FedEx 2 day. It sat in San Diego for 6 days with a new exception each day. I filed a claim and now it is miraculously moving towards being delivered. Either Friday or Monday it looks like.

Looks like I will see the same fate.

I have a question or two for you leather case experts.

I’ve a black nomad and I’m guessing I should just let it patina? I’m seeing very light what I can only call scratches but they are not deep at all. Should I get leather protection balm or polish?

Lastly I read people being careful not to get the case wet, I have to ask, why? Being outside with the case abd it raining could be problematic!

Thanks!
Nomad uses Horween Dublin, which is a waxed, veg-tanned leather.

It's "stuffed" with fat and waxes which gives it a bit of water resistance, but not as much as their chrome-tanned leather, and it's porous, so it's still best to avoid wetting it unnecessarily. There's a comment in the post about care.

Aside from the inherent natural marks in the hide, it will also pick up scratches rather easily.

The black color does a better job of hiding use than lighter colors, but it will still age.

So, it's not a material that will remain pristine, and best suited for those who come to this thread not by accident.

My Nomad iPad case is past the 50 day mark, but only really reveals the scratch marks upon closer inspection.

I’ve no complaints about the leather on the Nomad, it’s wearing in really nicely, scratches and all.

I’m just not crazy about the TPU sides, and how thick it is.

I’ve decided to use a magic eraser on my apple case but before, i wanted to clean it with wipes. In the end I decided that I like it quite a lot as it looks like half wiped. For now I will keep it like that. I may end up using the magic eraser after all but for now I like it as it is.

Yes. But the sides were getting very bad so the only option left was to remove the coating. I know what most will say, clean hands and so on but I really tried to protect it and never touched it with dirty hands. I don’t even use it that often and mostly in my house. It was just bad coating. I will not get an apple case again....

I don't know, maybe you got a defective case or something? My baltic blue case sides have gotten darker, sure. But nothing like it.. Looks pretty gradual. I've had it for almost 3 months now

Only the sides were darker for me as well. But i didn’t like it at all. That’s why I decided to remove the coating. It looks like this because I stopped half way. This is how it looked before

This is way more severe than mine.. How long did you own it before it turned that dark?

I am in a field where I have to wash my hands at least twice/hr and carry that into my personal life. This is exactly how mine looks right now after ~3 months. Never been exposed to any water or chemicals.

It all depends on how you hold your phone and also how often, not to mention your oil production. Everyones case will eventually look like that and the people saying to wash your hands are trolls.

I wonder if it would look any better once the thin layer of blue “leather” is completely gone .

It'll eventually evolve into a black leather case 🤣

For a first leather case what would you recommend?

I'm after reasonable drop protection, a case that wraps the entire phone (no exposed sides), that feels great and that ages well - no way I'm going to chance forcing a patina as much I love this thread!

My options are Nomad (in the UK they're £10 cheaper than an Apple case), Apple or the even cheaper route of a Bellroy as I like their colours but I've no idea how they hold up over many months.

The Nomad looks great but I prefer the look of the Apple saddle brown. The Apple saddle brown doesn't have the drop protection of the Nomad. Does anyone who have both have a firm recommendation either way? And as an outside shot, would anyone have a long-term review of a Bellroy?
After 2.5 months... this bellroy case has proven it’s worth $55 in my opinion.

yes, folks will frown on the side buttons being tight, however, I’m used to them and rarely use them anyhow.

below are pics taken today with the 12 Pro.
