Both my baltic blue and saddle cases had a smell of leather, not extremely strong, but still...
I lean towards agreeing that the Bullstrap cases (I'm sure there are other brands I'd like that I haven't held) are the quality of leather I vastly prefer over what Apple is doing this year. I don't think the Apple case is trash or anything of the sorts, I just think it's not what most of us had come to expect of Apple's leather cases. Everyone's mileage will vary, but I've used Apple's leather case every single year for the last five or six, and this generation is just not what I expect and had come to love of their leather previously.
MagSafe is the only reason I'd continue to use it if there wasn't an alternative that I preferred. (As long as Bullstrap sends me the right thing this time! Ugh)

Exactly, a big problem is that since the iPhone 6 with the rounded corners it helped the leather age so much better and more evenly, im not really sure that the leather is much different then the cases for the 6-11 series phones, it’s just the shape of the phone itself that’s causing problems...
Wow! Nicest Apple leather case I’ve seen after personal modifications/treatments.
I have the black silicone case for my 12 and it really wasn’t that bad. It did smudge a bunch though so fingerprints will show up from time to time.
Yeah for me, the lint and fingerprints are deal killer for me when i had silicone for iphone 11.
lint goes away with the shiny-ness of the silicone after time though. for the most part... imo.
Sure are a lint magnet them silicone cases 🧲📱😊 I still switch between my apple leather and silicone cases, more cleaning involved when using the apple silicone cases.
My Decoded update. It ages slowly for sure. Considering treating the case with leather balm but I’m still undecided. It’s been 2 weeks so far

Yeah, I had the natural case (returned) and didn’t really like the white material on it.
Had it been black, then would be a different story.

Ok, this picture convinced me to try the leather case for my iPhone 12 mini one last time. I was not happy with the quality of Apple leather case, bud I got a Decoded leather case for my AirPods Pro and I am happy with it. So probably it is fair to give a chance to Decoded brand for a phone case too.
Edit: and here it is, feeling great in the hand.

I would say to just leave it alone and let age naturally
is it just me or does the black leather case for iPhone 12 feel like it has more grain and less wax-y than other colors (baltic blue is what im comparing to since its the only other leather case I have)
not sure how well it picks up in the camera but you can visually see it too
The apple logo looks like its got a layer of paint over top of it too or wax, or something for the baltic blue
but my wallet def feels grainier than the Baltic blue case

I had to do the same with my Mini. I picked up a Spigen Thin fit. I would probably get a bull strap but their shipping prices to Canada are just too high.
I finally got the correct Bullstrap case, and dang do I love the quality of their cases.
I got the Ocean (have the blue 12PM), but the Sienna I have seen in person was extremely nice as well.
