What fake layer are you talking about, the “protective” waxy coating?
but it looks nice, after the magic eraser what did you use...
I’m talking about whatever that came off that was not leather. Some type of dye coating. I like my leather to be leather.

but there is so much miss information about this gens leather cases, the leather is just as natural as the previous versions, they just wear differently this gen because of the squared edges,

No offense taken I’m just trying to tell you that I scrubbed some thick layer of something that was not leather off of the case. You can go back and look at my post history, and it’s pretty evident in this tread that Apple has coated the case with some layer of artificial coating. I scrubbed it with a magic eraser and have used leather conditioner, nothing else.
Yours looks pretty good. I did the same treatment as you back in January too and the case aged really badly. At first it was a beauty but then it darkened at such a fast rate that by March it was just a gross mess.
Yours has aged much better. Hope it continues to age this well for you.
Almost a month of using. Hope for beautiful patina is slowly gone. The borders of case starts to go dark.

so i bought a saddle brown for the 12 pro max during launch, and it was every bit as crappy as everyone mentoned on here.
But then, last month io bought a black and california poppy, now what's interesting is, the quality of the leather is way different, for the better!!!!!

Looks a bit better in person. Got fed up of the paint stuff on it and had some pretty bad scratches/cuts in places too so I went at is with sand paper and acetone then oiled it. Needs more work though. Might have another go with acetone, or just let it age naturally now I’ve got most of the paint off.

Sorry, some of the “artificial” patina done to Apple leather cases looks like crap. Kinda icky. I would not want to hold those cases.

Sure - 1 is on my phone (same lighting as before), 2 - front of the phone (same lighting as before), 3 and 4 - artificial lighting. I've been trying to find real-world reviews and photos and couldn't anywhere!!

I’ve been caseless since I got this phone and I’ve ENJOYED it. The baltic blue was in my possession for a day or two—it got returned. This deep violet is something serious! I believe I like the “feel” of the case better than the look (which is beautiful). The cutouts at the bottom aren’t sharp like the previous case which turned me off from this year’s version of the leather case. This feels fantastic.
