I hoped for a better outcome but the black marks from last year returned on this year’s case. It’s been returned.

Those who got the Dark Cherry or Seqouia Green some weeks ago, hows it aged since? Any sign of patina?

This was my post from earlier. Is this fine, high quality leather? Nah. None of these cases are. Even the ones marketed as Horween are somewhat laughable. If you look at the type of leather that Horween produces for shoes or other leather goods, it’s usually very thick and finished well. These are extremely thin pieces of leather. For example, I have a saddle brown Nomad AirTag keychain that is allegedly made using Horween leather. The leather is fine but after several months of use, other than some marks from being next to keys, the leather has picked up next to zero character from oils and the like. It’s definitely leather, and while it shares the name Horween, the leather is unlike my other pieces that are sourced from the Horween tannery. Like many things, there are various grades of quality that can still be called by the same brand name.

I’m satisfied with my case, but I also don’t expect it to patina at 59.99 like a leather good that costs many times that price. Sadly, I think that my iPhone X saddle brown picked up a patina much faster than this 13 case. I still love the color and the case, but it definitely feels like it was designed to look new rather than age like leather should (in my opinion).

I posted photos a few pages back: —-> Link: Photos of my Sequoia Green Leather Case

With this style of case (hard edges) I wouldn’t call the color fade “Patina”. Its essentially paint rubbing off. I really dont mind ugly fading since cases look better aged, but I returned mine because of the quality of the leather. It just feels wrong this year.

Its crazy how far downhill their leather case offerings have gone. Any light color forget about it. Seems like the only safe options are the Black/Midnight as it will hide the fading better but makes you really think twice about purchasing a $59 case that is made horribly.

I missed your photos. The color of the green in your photos looks like it has quite a bit of blue compared to the official product shots, and doesn’t look at all close to my grams28 olive case. I thought the olive and sequoia green were much closer.

Edit: I think I scrolled past your post without reading the color and just thought it was some blue color.

I’m the one that posted his and hers (green/dark cherry). Absolutely none. But the case is getting a little softer. Color wise looks no different. Has gotten really sticky :(.

Is the best option again this year going to be the Decoded case? I hate that they added some branding on the back, but seems like the best option for those of us who want an all leather case (no tpu sides).

For those of you who had leather cases on your iPhone 12, are the 13 cases more or less grippy than last year's cases? Also, are leather cases generally lighter than their silicone counterparts?

Going raw for the moment. I had all intentions to go caseless this year anyway but I saw that green and wanted it.
That sucks it didn't work out but at least you got your money. What did you wind up going with case wise?

Disagree on the nomad, here is our XR folio 2.5 years old and a new 12 max folio 3 days old.

Im using Decoded this year for the first time after always using Apple, Sena, or Bullstrap and I'm very happy with it. Better than Apple, smells like leather, fits nice and tight and has a deep lip around the screen.

I haven’t seen any light colored leather cases this year. Really don’t want to go dark. Nomad has a natural leather option which I kinda like but I hate that the tpu sides are the same color.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

I’m looking to get the phone sometime next month, when also, we should hopefully be having Apples Holiday Period promotion, in which the returns period for all products bought will be then be sometime in early January 2022, rather than the usual two week period - then I can buy one of the leather cases, and if it really ages horrifically, i’ll just swap it in for a silicone / clear case in January.

Coming from an 11 Pro, while we had a rather lacking total number of colours (Meyer Lemon was the only actual new colour introduced, nothing new in Spring), a la quality over quantity, at least the colour selection itself was very decent, which I’m struggling to say the same for 13 Pro, and also, didn’t have concerns over the quality of the leather. Here’s how my Midnight Blue 11 Pro case aged (loved that):

And as a bonus, one of my favourite leather colours Apple has given us, Meyer Lemon on a warm Australian summer evening:

Ahh how I miss 2019…

I’ll repeat what I said last year for the 12 series leather cases: there is only so much Apple can do with this thickness and shape. The 11 Pro and older leather cases were thicker and the leather dye did not wear off as easily. But you add the sharp edge design plus Magsafe, and Apple has to make some compromises. I believe they chose to keep the case lighter and thinner, with the trade-off of leather that wears much differently than previous iterations.
