Thanks I appreciate the insights! That's a big dealbreaker for me too. I'll check out the Andar, and perhaps the Decoded case too as it seems to have a lot of positive reviews here. Thanks!

It would’ve been a dealbreaker for me too but I was pleased to find that the MagSafe on my Bullstrap case was just as strong as on my Andar case. I think they fixed that issue in the latest batch.

Interesting! Do you use your Bullstrap with a magnetic car mount? if so how do you find its sturdiness?

Not a car mount, but my main uses are with a desk mount, Apple’s MagSafe wallet, and the Anker MagGo battery pack. But I shook the desk mount quite vigorously and the phone didn’t fall off.

One month since I stripped the coating off the saddle brown case and left it to patina naturally. Did the same technique to the wallet, its not aging as nicely as the case so far but at least it feels like real leather now and not that gross plastic coating. Pictured along with my Native Union airpod case.

Did you also use alcohol wipes on the AirPods case?

So you would say you can use apple leather wallet without issue on the Bullstrap case?

It seems like Apple did something different with their leather cases this year, because I’m getting virtually no patina after daily usage for over a year. Only on the edges, but it doesn’t look like a patina - it just looks like the color rubbed off.

Here’s a pic showing my saddle brown 12 pro case vs my iPhone 7 saddle brown case (comparable usage times):
Anyone else having a similar experience?

update on my golden brown case on the 13 pro. also wiped the coating off with 70% alc wipes. I wasn't very thorough around the edges of the camera cutout, so you can kinda see the difference there.

I've heard the magnet is quite weak as well. Have you tried mounting it on any car MagSafe mounts, like the Belkin or the ESR? That's my main concern holding me back from purchasing one of these! Thanks :) (and sorry for digging an old post up lol)
I used it briefly on a real Apple MagSafe charger in my office, also ESR in my car. If I hit decent bump though driving, the phone fell. ?. (Also with the Bullstrap case open at the bottom, not 100% fully protected)

It connected to Apple Magsafe, but yeah I could tell the connection, magnet strength was weaker.

I'd still use it if I could, (it clearly doesn't fit the 13). It's a nice case.
So it still sits in a darn box, mint condition....

I would be tempted to get the Apple "Golden Brown" (to me its Butterscotch, not a fan of this), just to achieve this look using alcohol wipes.
I should probably add that afterwards, I gave the case a very slight wheatgerm oil (very little to no smell) treat, as since covid my hands are usually not greasy enough to come this far in a reasonable amount of time ?

Yeah, they clearly changed it last year on the 12 cases. My previous cases on XS Max, 8+,6+, etc would always even patina nicely. My Baltic Blue case developed black uneven edging after a few months. The dark leather developed black edging just after a 4 days (noticed the dye coming off after treating it with leather conditioner), ended up returning that.

Same with the 13 cases also, my Green Sequoia I bought in Sept. has some dark, black patches now..again uneven. Midnight case (super dark blue), it will be harder to see the dye coming off, again black edges.

I'm not letting it bug me though. But yes, the old cases were so much better in my opinion

How long has it been since you wiped the coating? Looks like the patina is starting to come in nicely. I think this will look great in a month or two. The hardest part is just waiting for it to happen and not rushing it with oils and balms. I'm a month in since removing my coating and patience is definitely paying off.

Probably gonna seem like the same post I just made yesterday but my husbands bullstrap came in. Only difference he wanted was the portfolio version- we both loved the bourbon color! Looks super on his! The pockets are a little stiff but I’m sure will break in with time.

Mind if I ask when you purchased yours? Is it for the iPhone 12 or 13?

I've noticed that cases being a 'tight fit' mentioned here a lot for the Decoded cases... does that make it difficult to remove the phone from the case? I'll be taking mine in and out quite regularly (I like to use mine caseless when I'm at home) and I found the Apple leather case to be quite 'tight' to remove regularly.

Yep, I have a Sienna 13Pro case from the most recent run and the magnets are just as strong as the Apple leather it replaced. Mine has never fallen off my MagSafe mount from Amazon.
