No hurry. But I have used a lot of leather goods over the years including leather cases (and Lonli's last year) and there was no signs of absorption of oils, different texture, or any sign the leather was real (or at least not heavily coated) and in fact became quite slimy at the end of a day. I don't mind waiting for patina but it felt like crap.

I tried a leather conditioner and it didn't really absorb. Since I was refunding it anyway (they offer a 30 day trial) - I alcohol wiped the heck out of it and a ton of brown pigment came off - the feel was better and it did take on some oils/conditioner then, but it doesn't look particularly good either.

I'll probably go caseless or wait for something good to go on sale.
Refunding or returning? Hopefully you didn’t destroy it before you sent it back for a refund.

What would be the best leather case to get if you worry about drop protection? I’ve looked at Nomad, but some people suggest that it doesn’t actually have great drop protection since the lips are small.

I don't think you go leather case if you're worried about drop protection tbh
I was going to say this and add Nomad that Nomad has TPU sides so it’ll have the most you’ll find with leather. If you’re dropping it down mountains or in rock piles it might be insufficient but for everyday drops you’re more than covered.

What a load of rubbish 😂😂

Of course it can be depending on how the leather is handled, oils and dirt etc.
Good leather isn't dry and thirsty as hell, which seems to be a thing with most cases these days. I am not saying the cases can't develop some darker spots in 4 weeks, I am saying it isn't normal because high quality full grain leather does not behave like that.

The leather that, for example, Ryan London uses is fine but it was delivered extremely dry. Of course it will develop a patina faster because it will literally suck your hands dry of oils and moisture. Is it normal though? Nah it isn't. I bet that leather is cheaper though, because no premium shoe or bag manufacturer will touch it.

So, signs of patina in 4 weeks can happen, but no one should use that as a metric for leather in general.

I know everybody likes to trash the quality of Apple’s leather but my ink case feels supple and just barely has some darker spots after almost a full year of usage.

My RL is black so can’t really comment on patina but it does have the shiny bits around the edges and where my fingers rest during normal usage.

Can you post pics of your black RL?

I got my green colored “apple leather case” from AliExpress today. This one came from a different seller than my purple one. It seems like it’s better quality. The buttons are even clickier than the purple one. Which is great! You can see the MagSafe ring on it because I had my MagSafe PopSocket attached for a couple hours already before I snapped the photos. For the price I may just order the purple from this seller and the other colors as well. View attachment 2307274View attachment 2307275
Do you mind sharing what seller you bought this from on aliexpress or sharing a link?

Installed my dbrand skin on Friday and been using it all weekend. The leather is not great, it feels more like suede and it scratches really easily. I’m guessing it’s just unfinished leather because it soaks up leather conditioner the second you put it on and gets really dark until it dries. The scratches go away when you put conditioner on. I am able to fit my Keyway on over it without any damage so far, it just slightly reduces the lip in the front. MagSafe accessories still work but my wallet seems to wiggle a little more than when it’s attached to a leather case. I
do love using the phone without a case and having the extra grip but the skin doesn’t feel nearly as good as my leather cases. I’m hoping the feel gets better with usage or maybe I should keep dumping leather conditioner on it until it’s completely saturated.

Looks good but I prefer the look of the Keyway.

Yeah that’s why the first thing I did was test that I could still fit a case over it. I wanted to go caseless with the 15pro but the back glass was just too slippery. This solved that problem so I can at least go caseless around the house.

Pretty disappointed in Bullstraps quality. I set my phone down on my kitchen counter yesterday which must’ve had a little water on it. Noticed it immediately and dried it right away. Now I’m left with these spots. In 5+ years of using Apple Leather cases, this has never happened.
