But then I see this on instagram from their CEO

And to the poster above who said the cutouts aren’t detrimental. You are absolutely correct. That’s why I’m gonna still get the version with the cut out and then I will just get the other version next year. It is easier to use with a button. I’ll give it that, but it’s not the end of the world to use it without the button

Thanks for sharing. That's interesting. I now need to decide if a Ryan London or Bullstrap is the better choice.

Just to be clear all - this patent talk around the control button is nonsense. For the sake of misinformation going around, Apple have shared how to integrate the camera control in their official design guideline documentation! A lot of these case brands are misunderstanding the patent that Apple has actually got. Apple licenses technology via its MFi programme and this does not feature there at all. Or case manufacturers are conveniently using this misinformation as an excuse to not create a case with the camera control button... I'll let you decide.

Edited to add: the reason I know this is I'm currently working on my own case brand which will launch next year and I'm integrating the button into my cases.

Good find, I was actually looking for this last week.

Not sure what these images prove. They just tell case manufacturers how to make the camera control button like they did.

I got the same email. I wrote back that I would like to cancel my order. Hopefully they will cancel and refund my money. There are plenty of other leather cases options out there, I’d rather not wait until Dec.

Fwiw, I got an email today saying that they cancelled my order. Also another email apologizing again for the delay. So I’m happy for now.

In the meantime, I ordered a Decoded leather case in blue. I’ll post pics when I get it.

Exactly. ZERO mention of a license. See attached for what Apple currently require a license for via MFi, notice anything missing?

So taken together - Apple giving out, freely, how to integrate the button and then not including it in the MFi program - it’s clear there is no intention from Apple to license it.

Based on what Sandmarc said and then pulled the button version, which says otherwise. Also, TechnicallyTee (YouTube case reviewer) was requested not to release his review of the case with the CC button due to patent concerns. This incident reveals more than Apple simply instructing manufacturers on how to incorporate the CC button.

Well I opted for my 50% code from Bullstrap. Just picked up a new iPad Pro case. Doesn’t hurt my feelings. I personally think Bullstrap is the best and yeah it sucks but I’ll take a new iPad case while I wait for my case. My silicone isn’t the worst case in the world and it just makes me more anxious and excited for the day to come where my leather ships.

Are you still going to get the RL?

I’ve messaged the MFi team and I will share what they say. But I think the case manufacturers have misunderstood what’s happening. Right now we have what Apple has put out and what a couple of case manufacturers are saying… I could be wrong but I don’t think I am

Please keep us updated! It seemed strange that they asked a YouTube user not to post a video unless there were some legal consequences. However, I could be mistaken.

I will do! I’m expecting a reply tomorrow (UK time). I think Sandmarc (and now BS) has gotten scared because of this patent: https://wikipatents.org/index.php/A...PUT_FOR_ELECTRONIC_DEVICE_simplified_abstract

Official documentation from USPTO here:

Let’s say this patent is applicable to the case button (it most likely is) my understanding is that Apple is not enforcing it as such. It feels like it’s more in defence against Samsung and other phone manufacturers to stop them creating similar systems for THEIR phones rather than third party case manufacturers for iPhones.

You can tell I’ve done some research! Anyway I’ll have an answer soon enough.

Remember the days when this tread was about beautiful leather patina and not about a stupid button no one uses anyways..... sigh....

Ok, here’s a patina pic from my Day 1 Nomad Horween case (16 Pro) in Black. Hard to see in the photo, but there appears to be some reddish stains on the black leather. Not really visible except at the right angle. My guess is lotion or something on my hands causing this. Interesting effect for sure, and I guess it counts as patina. Also, if you look close, some scratches in the leather.

Interesting. Out of curiosity is the case staining things blue... clothing, hands, fabrics etc? I'm wondering if its the blue coming out of the leather. Obviously blue is not a natural leather color so it almost looks like the blue is leaching out and its the natural hide color showing through. I had a case a couple years ago that did this and they were able to trace it back to a bad batch of leather that didn't accept the dye properly. I got a free replacement from it and got to keep the original. Might be worth reaching out to Nomad on that.

Thats interesting. I’m not getting any staining that I’ve seen. I did try leather cleaner on it last night and the cloth was not stained (and it didn’t remove the reddish staining either), so I don’t think there is a problem with the leather. I think it is likely some chemical reaction (lotion on hands, dirty hands, etc).

I ordered a Decoded case in Blue, so I may be using that instead if it’s seems like a quality case. I really like the Nomad case, but it’s a bit bulky and not available in dark blue, otherwise I would stick with it for the duration.

I found my old Nomad to be a bit on the bulky side too. I had the blue Decoded on my iphone 12 and it was a good case. The leather developed a nice glossy patina. Hopefully they are still using the same type of leather.

Wonder whats taking Luckycoin so long with their 16 series. I love my LC on teh 15. Best case I've had in a long time.
