I actually really like leather sleeves and have been using them since owning my iPhone. I don't use a screen protector or case normally so I make sure to always put my iPhone in a leather sleeve before putting it in any pocket or bag.

However I would have loved if this leather sleeve had a side opening as well because that makes it way easier and faster to insert/get out the iPhone. With side opening I mean a sleeve like this one which is fantastic.
I like the Lucrin, but less drop protection than traditional sleeve. How’s the quality of their leather? I got a Joli sleeve when I’m not using a bumper type case. I was afraid the Joli sleeve with felt would be too thick, but it’s okay.

The quality of the leather and the stitching is really nice, I love it. Unfortunately, they don’t offer a leather sleeve with side opening for the iPhone 12.

I used a leather sleeve with card holder for many years, through several iterations of iPhone (iPhone 4 to 6S): http://www.ikonic-edge.com/
This was the best I found. I really liked how the phone was protected in my pocket or bag, and that when I was using it, it was caseless (looking and feeling better because of it). I’m not sure why I stopped using one (iPhone 7 on), I think it’s because I started using a micro wallet for my cards and apples silicon case felt nice. However, as phones got bigger, the silicon case added too much bulk, so now I use a slim case with my 12 Pro: Tozo ultra thin hard case, which doesn’t add much bulk and feels ok. Considering going caseless again.. or maybe a sleeve.. now I’m confused 🤷‍♂️

”Specially tanned and finished European leather that develops a patina over time.” Maybe somebody could explain exactly what European leather is and how it’s any different than leather from anywhere else.

So, an overpriced leather sleeve that isn’t durable enough to maintain its look over time and wears out quickly. And that’s a feature? Does anybody want a patina on their phone case? A 100 year-old family heirloom gold or silver necklace would look nice with a patina, not an iPhone case.

The whole point of nice leather is that it changes appearance over time.

I agree that "specially tanned European" isn't an especially useful description for determining the quality of the leather. But developing a patina does not mean it isn't durable/wears out quickly. It's literally what nice leather is supposed to do.

They seriously think it’s sensible to store a credit card / pass card against your phone? Many are still magnetised.

Yeah, totally agree. I would never consider something like this (At 34 years of age). It does seem like an ‘older person purchase’.

Relentless Power quickly removes leather sleeve from cart.

Oi! Watch your lip you young wipper snapper.😉 I’m old, but age doesn’t prevent me looking at this and thinking “ that looks *****” and “how feckin much!!”

Comedian Harry Enfield did a series of sketches in which he played the proprietor of an antiques / Bric a Brac shop that sold tat to the gullible. The shop was named “I saw you coming”
That’s the first thing I thought when I saw this.
( sketches are on YouTube, well worth a look )

But the MagSafe Duo is still MIA?
Whats going on Apple!!! You announced this thing over A month ago, and it’s not that complicated of a product.
Plus, I already know someone who saw it on the store, went to go buy it, and then got frustrated that it just couldn’t be ordered. What type of system is that?
It doesn’t say “ coming soon,” it doesn’t say “ available soon,” it just says “not available.”
I mean at this point should they even bother releasing it?
The thing has been dogged six ways to Sunday but every respected tech reviewer around as an overpriced POS.
Since Apple is incapable of admitting when they’ve screwed up on pricing (ok well there was tha
It is revealing that there are currently 103 comments in this thread on a minor iPhone accessory, and yet there were only 74 comments in the thread on Apple's launch of the M1 chip.

The level of discussion in MacRumors forums has deteriorated to the level of a third-rate fashion show.
The lack of comments is misleading, as we were busy discussing this news on the live blog discussion page while we watched the event itself. Pretty sure that discussion was over a thousand comments long by the time I left it.

I’m amazed how much people are against the sleeve when none of us has seen one or even reviews on YouTube as yet.

I have ordered one for my 12 pro max because I like using my phone naked, but at the same time I do not want to get it scratched up. I see my use of the sleeve to carry the phone around and if I sit down at say a restaurant, take out my phone as it is too big to keep in my pants pocket and placed down on the table. If that table surface is say stone, it still will not damage my phone. At the same time I can give my companion full attention while still being able to see the time in the window. If I wish to take my phone out I can then use the sleeve to lay it on top to still prevent any damage. Another benefit of the sleeve is that it has a card slot, so I can carry an emergency credit card with me at all times without requiring my wallet.

Until the sleeve arrives, none of us will know if it stands up to expectations or not, so all this debate is pointless.

Yes, and the vast majority of those were complaining about a lack of physical redesign of the MacBook Air and Pro.

The truly groundbreaking event of the dawn of the Apple Silicon M1 era was a minor distraction from the catwalk.

Whilst I believe it's too expensive, regardless of the leather quality, I agree. Partly hypocritical given I wear an expensive mechanical watch that keeps worse time than a £10 Timex, but hey :)

It's not a product for me, but there is value in not being a phone junkie, glued to it every spare moment. It's pretty obvious that the majority of people globally are phone junkies, but this thread would suggest some of these people cannot comprehend that some people aren't, that not everyone stares at their phone every 5 minutes.

Partly why I'm so pleased with the 12 Mini. Massively reduced my phone usage in recent years, use it a tool these days and little else, so the Mini is a massive win for me.

Bought a leather folio for my XS 2 years ago, next case will not be leather, it ages way too fast and wasn't cheap either.
A €30 case does the same job and you can buy multiple of them for the price a leather one costs.

Hands down the most ridiculous ill-thought out accessory Apple have ever made. At least iPod socks were relatively cheap, fun, easy given your iPod didn’t ring and you could control your music without removal to some degree.

This just screams of a design department given a brief for the new iPhone 12 range (oh yes 3 different sizes here) and who, without a lead in Ive, are clearly feckless. Every single person who sat in meetings presenting and approving this POS deserves endless ridicule and shame. A solution for a problem that doesn’t exist. Design by committee. You can almost hear it...

”Ooh what about those customers who want a case, but also don’t want a case...hmmm? y’all know what I mean, not have it on permanently as they want to be able to show off their fabulous new mini/12/Pro over socially distanced lattés with the ladies...hey we could even put a little cut out window to show off the time....What? But of course the phone doesn’t have an AOD like the Watch so it won’t have any practical use whatsoever...Exactly, they’ll have to remove it each time or when they get a call...Yeah but then at least 90% will fumble and drop it so we’re cher-ching for either replacement screens or a complete new phone...Bingo! Doubling down on double dipping! Oh oh we’re knocking this out of the park but we’re still lacking a killer social factor, a hook. Anyone?...oooh I’ve got it, the STRAP....imagine how COOL everyone will look casually dangling their $1000 new iPhone from their wrist! We can even have the ad featuring some NBA baller casually flicking their wrist to catch the phone into their hand, have them wink and nod to camera as if a three pointer whilst on a deeper level it also works as a kind of existential throwback reinvention of great grandmas favourite cup and ball toy...what do you mean? just Siri it...”
