So looking forward to Leopard, but my order just says "Shipping by 26th October" However, i've just checked my status now and the UK store is closed for updates.... Please please let this be a blanket update of everyones delivery status!!! I know, i'm clutching at straws

I know, i'm clutching at straws I just figured I would throw in my two cents - I preordered Tiger when it came out, and got it a full two days early. In fact, I remember quite vividly that I had some installation issues, and I tried to get support through AppleCare, which didn't even have an option for support at that time!
I have had a similar e-mail. Date of arrival is 24th.

I'd say that was a fatal error on your part. You would have gotten it on Friday if you had just been patient. Apple expedites all first new OS X orders no matter how you say to ship it. It's highly unlikely you will get it from Amazon on Friday.
I think you still have time to cancel the Amazon order and replace your Apple order - I would do it by phone right now 1.800.MY.APPLE if I were you.
I think it depends where you are in the world. In the US it seems it will come on the 26th. If people here have spoken to Apple in Europe and they say it will not ship until the 26th (I read that somewhere, maybe in this thread or another one) then perhaps he has done the right thing. I hope it does come on Friday though, but on my own personal previous experience I have decided to remain calm! It will come when it comes!

FYI, you can check your UK order status on the US shop site. Mine still says "Ships by: OCTOBER 26TH". Think I'll cancel mine if it's not posted by tomorrow eve, and get down to Apple shop, Bental, after work on Fri.

Well if it's been shipped today you don't have to worry about it coming today or tonight(It will take at least a day). And yes you will have to sign for it unless you fill out the signature form before hand from Apple.
On the shipment notification page there is a place to get a signature form to fill out and sign and leave for the delivery man. Unless you fill this out you will have to sign for it in person.
And no it should not be too late considering it just shipped today.
Ordered mine from Amazon. Expecting it to arrive late next week or early in the following week. It will be hard watching all of the reviews, etc but the $20 savings is worth it.
That may also provide the devs of a couple of 3rd party apps I use to provide their own updates by then.

I ordered my copy at 9:30 AM Pacific time, the day it was first available and mine still says "Prepared for Shipment" and "DELIVERS ON OCTOBER 26TH."
I live in CA and am starting to wonder if they are shipping early based on location. I know in all likelihood that they have to ship quite a few copies early in order to assure that everyone gets it on time. If they are doing it by location it would make sense that mine would not have shipped yet if it is shipping from CA.

I ordered first day and since I live in New Hampshire...I would think the distance rule from California would apply if distance determined how shipments are being sent.
Prepared for shipment is still my status.
It is probably whatever pallet happens to get loaded on the FedEx truck.
Either case, it will get here by Friday and that is all I care about.
